I normally do not write an evaluation but Carlos and his family just deserve the best. Of course it is not a 5-star hotel but if you are in Huaraz you don’t need that at all. Carlos always was there for me from helping me organizing all the hikes (you should definitely organize them with the help from him otherwise you pay too much if you just walk into some agencies) to getting my laundry from the lavanderia because I arrived too late from a hike. Otra vez muchas gracias a todos por todo. Saludos! ✌️

The town itself is nothing to write home about but the surrounding nature is incredibly stunning. Plan in at least 4 days to get used to the altitude and to have time to explore some of the many tour options. If you want to do a multiday hike stay at least for a week. Tour operators provide equipment. Prices are very affordable overall for what you get. The lagoons are breathtakingly beautiful and the ruins of Chavín world-class, not to be missed!
Huaraz is a wonderful city. There are many great, inexpensive places to eat. Huaraz is backpacker heaven. There are many trips available for just a day or a week or more. The views of the Cordillera Blanca ( snow-capped Andes) are incredible. Combis can be arranged for day hikes to Wilcacocha and other spots. One can hike to Rataqueña right from your hostal room. Catch a bus right out of Lima. 8 hour ride so do yourself a favor and go with a more expensive bus line. I used Cruz del Sur.
Huaraz is a city in the Callejón de Huaylas valley in northern Peru. It is the capital of the Ancash region and is located more than 3,000 meters above sea level, with snowy peaks of the Cordillera Blanca that form a dramatic horizon in the east. The Huarascán National Park, which covers a large part of the Cordillera Blanca, is home to Andean condors and jaguars, as well as the highest mountain in Peru, Huarascán.
I spent about a month in and out of Huaraz. There is so much to do in the Ancash region. My friend and I stayed at the big mountain hostel every time we returned from an excursion. I love Huaraz and can’t wait to return.
The hike to Laguna 69 was very difficult, but so worth it when we reached the top. It was raining and very windy on our trip but the views were amazing at the top. Other than hiking there’s not much to do in Huaraz so it wouldn’t be suitable for every traveller, but if you’re into difficult hikes at high altitude definitely go and do at least one hike. Laguna 69 was the longest, but definitely most beautiful.
The city of Huaraz doesn’t really have a lot to offer. Huaraz is a nice base to do a lot of trekking. You can choose to do daytrips or multiple trekking or a mixture off. If you are choosing to go with a company make sure search into the agencies. I booked with Galaxia Expeditions it was not very professional, the guide left us to walk alone a couple of times, they weren’t upfront about the conditions and there communication was very poorly. The guide dis not introduced herself, she did not explain anything. The tents and sleeping bags were old and some broken. Which made the nights cold and uncomfortable. But the trek itself was amazing, stunning and beautiful. I would recommend it! We booked 4 days but did it in 3. Because Galaxia Expeditions decided that there weren’t enough people.
I normally do not write an evaluation but Carlos and his family just deserve the best. Of course it is not a 5-star hotel but if you are in Huaraz you don’t need that at all. Huaraz
One of the most pleasent hostels. It has a wounderful garden, chill area with hammocks and a rooftop where you can see the glaciers around Huaraz. Breakfast was always on time with strong coffee. The reception helps you out with everything, also can tell you how to get to hiking trails and places in Cordilleria without booking a tour.
Huaraz
Very clean, calm and comfy hotel, perfect for relaxing after a hike, close to main square and shops & restaurants. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Nice terrace with views! Very good value for money, especially compared with the average Huaraz hostel, which can be a bit of a rickety affair it seems. Id definitely come back
Huaraz
Absolutely loved the vibe of the hostel. It has a proper hostel atmosphere, with great beds and good showers, once you get the adjustment right. Also big shout-out to the owner who helped me with a lot of advice for treks and trips. He was genuinely interested in what things I do in Huaraz and helped me out with renting stuff.

I really enjoyed and liked my staying in El Jacal. The rooms were always clean and organized. Breakfast good. It’s close to the city center. Ricardo (the owner) was SUPER kind and helpful with me. I got a credit card issue and he helped me a lot. I’m super grateful for this experience in Huaraz and highly recommend!!!!!
I cannot say enough nice things about the host. Zarela's hospitality is unrivaled. Her flexibility, helpful nature, kindness, and warm conversation turned a comfortable and welcoming hotel into a memorable stay. Zarela is an incredible resource and easily the best host I have encountered in my travels.
Huaraz
The rooms and bathrooms are very clean. There's a very big, well-equiped kitchen with a great view and lively athmosphere. The staff is really nice and will join hiking trips as well as party nights. The breakfast is also very good (best bread I've had in Peru so far) :)
Huaraz
The hosts are amazingly helpful at any point, very accommodating and can help you out with pretty much everything you would need. The location is far away from the typical Huaraz street noise. Clean rooms, facilities and well maintained. Views from the terrace are spectacular!
Huaraz
The Morales brothers lived up to their exceptional reputation as super-knowledgeable hosts and guides. Their hotel is located a few minutes walk from town, but benefits by being quiet. Hot showers, comfortable beds, killer views at breakfast. Friendly and efficient staff.
Huaraz
Best showers we've experienced in Peru, hot water, staff was a delight, beautiful view from the terrace, great location, well stocked shared kitchen
Beautiful Courtyard and the well appointed rooms had kitchenettes. Best breakfast of our entire 3 week trip.
