Super clean and tidy property, lovely garden, well-maintained rooms. It is set back from the street so avoids the noise that many places have. Nothing fancy, but as far as we could tell, the nicest place in the city. Our unit had a kitchen and fireplace, which was great. Beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. Had a water fountain with purified water, which was very handy and allowed us not to buy bottled water. Walking distance to markets and restaurants.

This hotel is amazing. In the middle of a busy city, Hotel Colomba is set in peaceful, beautiful gardens, securely behind high walls. Everything is in excellent condition, and the host has clearly put a great deal of thought and experience into the place. He is able to give guests helpful advice about whatever you need. The bonus is an excellent full breakfast, including healthy options like good muesli, fruit and fresh juice. All staff were friendly and helpful.

100% recommend Zarela’s. The owner was wonderful. She had wonderful recommendations on places to hike and good restaurants to eat at, along with just being a fun person to talk with. She was there at 6am to let me in and give me my room after an overnight bus ride to Huaraz. She even makes you a full French press of coffee every morning. Accommodations were very relaxing and comfortable

Fantastic location, easy to access, amazing views of Huascaran Park just behind the town! Desk staff were extremely helpful and friendly (even brought us up hot tea to our room about half an hour after we checked in 🥰), breakfast was made fresh for us, and we were even made some Muna tea (helps with altitude) when we mentioned my husband was having some gut issues! Would absolutely stay here again!!

Really interesting city with great options for visiting a number of natural and historical sites: 2.5 hours to Chavin de Huantar, 2 hours to glaciers and mountain lakes. The city is teeming with travel operators to take you there - there are also colectivos at your own risk. Lots of restaurants of various cuisines, including both tourist-focused places and more local ones. We even found some good vegetarian options - especially at Paulino's Indian and Casa de Zarela Thai.

Like Cusco and Lima, it was a crowded city of aggressive drivers constantly honking and spewing exhaust. Prices were higher than Cusco with less souvenir shopping. Maybe choose a place a little outside the town or another town that is closer to most of the day trips--it'll save u bus time too.

Huaraz is a great location as a base for mountaineering and hiking. At an altitude of 3000m you can retain your acclimatization there. There is a good supermarket Trujillo where you can get most food for the mountains, good restaurants with nice artisanal beer, stores with basic hiking equipment and gas. The town is chaotic but in a nice kind of way and seems to be safe.

A great base for trips out to the surrounding mountains.
A great base for trips out to the surrounding mountains. Lots of great trekking with stunning views and such a different range of scenery. Snow and ice with glaciers, or big crevasse strewn hills, or stunning big valleys with views over Huaraz. Lots of outdoor shops, lots of good places to eat and doesn't feel at all touristy.

Not really a nice city.
Not really a nice city. There is the Museum in the center of the city worth seing, with a garden of (real) Chavin stones.
Food is terrible. Almost all restaurants, expensive or unexpensive, only serve fried stuff with fried potatoes and eventually a sallad that I would not dare to eat. Alternatives are pizzas and pastas. But one does not travell up to the mountains to eat such kind of commercial food and so heavy.
We took a private car for a city tour at 5 p.m. He took us to various places. Interesting. We asked him if there was something to do in the evenings, like a cinema or a theater, and he said there was nothing going on like that in Huaraz.
It is a place to stop for starting a several days trip mounaineering or mountain walks, like to the mountains, or in our case we planned a 2 days trip to Chavin de Huantar (archeaology and nature).
People in Huaraz are generally speaking quite hostile, even locals to each other, prices are higher than in Lima (apparently there is much money circulating as the result of all the the mines around), service in restaurants and cafes is quite bad. What is offered, is in most cases is not what they really have once you start to order. If you have to go to Huaraz for starting your trip to the mountains or elsewhere, take it relaxed, stay cool, don`t expect too much and you will notice some little cool details here and there.
Let me check in really early and check out really late based in my buses to/from Lima. Breakfast was nice, they alternate breakfasts but honestly would like them just to stick with eggs/bread combo the French toast/bread combo is too much bread. Had a comfy private room before and after Huayhuash. Laundry after the trek was really helpful. Decent location. Sometimes you can hear people shuffling around for early morning tours but that’s not really the hostels fault. Lots of info on tours.
Had a great time staying at Sunrise. Initially booked for two nights and ended up staying for 4. Binder and the rest of the family were incredibly welcoming and very helpful during my stay. I had quite a lot of questions and had a couple issues within my room and they were able to help me out with everything. Definitely would recommend Sunrise Guest House if you're heading to Huaraz. One of the cheapest hostels I found and I think it was a great deal.
It was the best accommodation we stayed in Peru. Really nice room, big and soft bed, hot shower. Even a TV with Netflix! The area was quiet and still 5 minutes away from the city center. The breakfast was nice with different options. The owner and everyone who worked there were very friendly. They gave us lots of recommendations for food and helped us with choosing several hikes. We felt really welcome, it felt like home!
Excellent check-in and check-out times, perfect when you just arrived in Huaraz with the night bus. During our stay for 7 mornings, didn't get the same breakfast once. Wifi worked perfectly in our room. Cool view on the rooftop. Great tips from the host for hiking trips, and in which order these should best take place. Very nice and friendly staff. The laundry service of the place is ready the same day in the evening.
The helpfulness and care of the host exceeded my expectations by far. Not only our host organised us a tour but got up at 5 am to drive us to the junction 1,5 km distant - a distance we could easily make on foot. Whatever help we asked we got it and in the way that we felt the real interest in our needs.
As for the location, with the view of highest mountains in Peru at breakfast it is unbeatable!
It’s perfect! The owners are friendly and helpful. Antonia is also a guide so he is so knowledgeable about the places. They really take care of you that you feel so warm here. The facility is clean and the place is comfy. Just 10mins from the city center which I don’t think it’s a problem. It’s the best hostel I stayed in Peru!
Absolutely loved the vibe of the hostel. It has a proper hostel atmosphere, with great beds and good showers, once you get the adjustment right. Also big shout-out to the owner who helped me with a lot of advice for treks and trips. He was genuinely interested in what things I do in Huaraz and helped me out with renting stuff.
Very clean, calm and comfy hotel, perfect for relaxing after a hike, close to main square and shops & restaurants. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Nice terrace with views! Very good value for money, especially compared with the average Huaraz hostel, which can be a bit of a rickety affair it seems. Id definitely come back
The owners are very nice! They arranged everything for us during our stay (good price), including tours, earlier breakfast etc.
Also had a (very) early check in after a night bus.
Location directly in the city center with the street market in the same street, but no noise.
Hotel is just perfect to stay in Huaraz.
The Morales brothers lived up to their exceptional reputation as super-knowledgeable hosts and guides. Their hotel is located a few minutes walk from town, but benefits by being quiet. Hot showers, comfortable beds, killer views at breakfast. Friendly and efficient staff.
It is a family business. Owner went to the airport and took us to the hotel. We did all tours trough them. Walking distance about 15 minutes from main Plaza. Clean facilities and good price. We enjoy our stay!
Everything, from the moment we arrived until we left. Facilities and comfort were top notch but the best thing of all was the staff, there’s no else we would stay on a return to huaraz :)
The hotel is very nicely decorated. The common area on the top floor is very comfortable with a fire in the evenings.
This was my second visit to Huaraz and my second stay at this hotel.
The location is really good. From Lima to Huaraz the night buses usually arrive super early, so we arrived at 5 am and the hotel let us check in earlier without charging us anything.
This is a great place to stay in Huaraz. The staff is very kind and helpful, the rooms are spotless and peaceful, and it is a great value. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Huaraz
hot shower, the hostel is clean. the neighbour is quiet. close to the Main Street. the breakfast is different everyday. strong wifi . one of the best hostels I have ever stayed.
Erick is a super host. He offers everything we needed as cheap and excellent tours and experience of the city and Peruvian life. I definitely recommend it !
