Sofia is the Bulgarian capital and its largest city, and is situated at the foot of Vitosha Mountain in the very centre of the Balkan Peninsula. With a variety of architectural styles, picturesque scenery and easy access to outdoor activities, this city is a definite must-see!
From well-preserved city walls built in the 7th-century BC through to the early Medieval buildings. From the 4th-century Rotunda St. George and 10th-century Boyana Church with its stunning 13th-century frescoes to Socialist-era monumental constructions, Sofia offers a real treat for the city dwellers and history lovers.
Most of the popular landmarks are located in the Oborishte district, the most central part of the city featuring plenty of greenery, cobbled streets and the most popular landmark, the Neo-Byzantine Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
Sofia offers plenty of natural sites too, including the renowned thermal and mineral springs, the primary reason Thracians established the city here before the 7th-century BC. The center is small and the most important can be seen in one day. It is not a matter of skipping the city, but I think that visiting Sofia has to be combined with going out of the city and visiting the amazing mountains of Bulgaria and other places.

There is lots to see and do in Sofia, so it’s worth staying a few days. Sofia is a city with a very rich history and culture. Consider doing a walking tour with Sofia Free Tours or checking out the Red Flat exhibit about daily life in Communist Bulgaria. There are also lots of museums to choose from on rainy days. There are all sorts of tours outside of Sofia as well (Rila monastery, wine tasting, cave exploring, and hiking). There are also many different types of restaurants to try.

I love Sofia this was my second trip there in 5 months.
I love Sofia this was my second trip there in 5 months. This time enroute to Veliko Tarnova.
It’s a busy city. Make sure if you fly to Sofia you take Yellow cabs.their charging system is very fair and I’ve met some really helpful cabbies.
Sofia is very alive and of course there is a very strong cultural quarter there with a Univercity and lots of interesting history and art.
Some of the buildings look a bit crumbly. However, there appears to be lots of improvements being made to the infrastructure. Building being modernised and brought into the 21 st century.
Nice place.

Sofia is a town with many churches of different denominations. It is easy to walk around and the metro is very easy to navigate. You can use your credit card to tap on and off and the trains are frequent, modern and comfortable. The train line from the airport is only about USD 2.00. The Rila Monastery outside of Sofia is a recommended day trip. Our tour cost Euro 35 per person. The most amazing thing is the archaeology. Throughout the city there is large numbers of archaeology digs exposing historical buildings, with Bulgarian and English interps.
The house was close to the center of town and all the sights we wanted to see. There was plenty of beds for our family of seven, and the rooms were quiet. We loved the balcony that overlooked the courtyard and we enjoyed waking up each morning to see what the neighbor’s cats were doing!
The staff was great to communicate with and answered all of our questions before arriving. They also assisted with a taxi to get from the airport which was a concern for us since we didn’t speak Bulgarian.
This is a grand hotel. It's well presented and the room I stayed in had recently been refurbished. The breakfast was excellent and there were many options to cover every diet and taste. The ground floor bar was fine and stayed open reasonably late. The hotel is in a great location with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. Bulgaria's parliament is around the corner. The hotel is just two stops on the metro to the main railway and bus stations.
This amazing hotel has one of best personel I have ever seen in European counties and for sure in Bulgaria. .Everywhere.Athe reception at the restaurant ,every time you want something they are always there to help with a smile and real kindness.Special thanks to Rositsa at the reception and Nikolai at the restaurant and all the other working personal just more than professionalists.I hope to see them again soon!
Absolutely amazing stay in the center of Sofia , very comfortable and clean. The welcoming was so very friendly and made me feel right at home . The flat had everything one needs for a very comfortable stay and they went over and above, to provide even the things you don’t expect ever to find in a rented home . I am absolutely going to use it again next time I visit Bulgaria and Sofia . Thank you very much
Galia was awesome and friendly. Beautiful apartment. Sorry I dont have a habit of taking photos for hotels and apartments. But its was a great experience. Bathroom was really nice. Bed was comfy. Galia did a great job. Free parking. The apartment is close proximity to everything you need in Sofia. Beautiful town as well. I wish we had more time but we go, go, go on vacation. Bulgaria rocks! Thank you
Nice warm family atmosphere, Zlata is very nice and supports me when needed. I enjoy staying in a hostel, and I did not feel isolation, as in the hotel. Very good price and flexible. Nearby, walking distance are shops Lidl - 5 min walk, and Bulgaria Mall - 27 min. Walk. I can cook my own food in the kitchen, and keep it in the fridge. I really relax there.
Friendly desk staff . Very clean room. bedding towels and bathroom . Small cooker was ideal to cook some early morning eggs before travelling . Have stayed in some of the more expensive hotels like the Ramada . And this was as good for facilities . Would definitely recommend to friends and will be booking in again in return to Bulgaria .
Extremely friendly staff with good recommendations for restaurants and activities. The room was spacious and spotless. You get your own fridge with freezer and your own washing machine. The airconditioning works great. The location of the hotel is peaceful and a short walk from the city center. All in all perfect for a stay in Sofia.
The hotels host/front desk staff member Nikolai was very friendly and helpful. He spoke perfectly English and Bulgarian (he's Bulgarian). He done his job well. I personally admired his attention and care for his/their customers. The breakfast was very good as well. Good job to the staff at Best Western Plus Bristol Hotel!
We really cannot fault this hotel. the staff are excellent, the food is delicious and the rooms are so comfortable. we used the spa a lot and the sauna was so good. The no. 66 public bus runs here from Sofia Zoo. and paradise mall. our first hotel in Bulgaria and a good one too.
Mr Ludmil is an excellent host, knows and loves his city and incredibly kind. He was one of the friendliest people I've met on my travels. Location is very safe, walkable, and quiet on nights. You can't ask more. Oh and lovely bulgarian breakfast.
Perfect location, great breakfast, great breakfast room, comfortable beds, the hotel is above average for Bulgaria. The staff were friendly. Very happy with the price for value for money. We would definitely stay here again.
- nice clean room
- good breakfast
- good free private parking
- good value for the money
- the hotel is rated as 3 stars, but according to our experience in Bulgaria it is more like a 4 stars hotel
The service and staff especially
Vasco were exceptional. My good friend and I extremely enjoyed our stay and Sofia, Bulgaria is a wonderful city. We will definitely come back and visit Sofia soon.
The hotel is beautifully designed. Modern and clean. We needed a hotel close to the airport for one night with 3 kids, it was perfect for our first night in Bulgaria. The breakfast was delicious.
Comfortable bed and hot water in the bathroom! There is a lift and small breakfast! It is a variant if you need to work in Bulgarian Academy of Science or concert to big Arena Arena Armeec!
