Very charming Guesthouse! Loved the covered front porch area where you could hang out with coffee or a glass of wine. Very attractive, clean rooms and good beds. Good location for safety & convenience, located right next to the Radisson Hotel.
Unfortunately, one of the front desk staff was asleep at the desk when we went down to get our free breakfast coupons at 7AM. Two other staff members attempted to wake her up, but she was never fully able to wake up enough to be coherent and perform her job duties (she kept closing her eyes/falling asleep in the chair even as we tried to communicate with her). Even when we returned again at 8:30 for checkout, my husband had to assist her with the details of checking out and she did not even remember that she had called a taxi for us & collected the fee for that call from 10 minutes earlier. The night before was Halloween, so not sure if that came into play with her state of condition or not. It appeared that her supervisor arrived about that time to take over, but this situation should never have been allowed to go on for so long. Someone should have taken over for her much more expediently.
Beautiful décor, comfortable beds, attentive staff.
No ice machine.
Old fashion Balconies, and swings. Availability to everything Belizien.
Quiet street, location close to all you want, helpful staff, fantastic balcony's.
Front desk staff was excellent! Very helpful! Cafe next door was yummy :-)
The staff were very accommodating and the restaurant in hotel was excellent. One of the safer places to stay in Belize.
Gap under doors let bugs in and no elevators. We were on 3rd floor. We are in good shape, and it was still difficult to even make the steps. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with partial disability in knee/hip. I would check for the Radisson next door instead that has an elevator.
Secure Comfortable Updated Bathroom King Bed
Certainly friendly and quiet.
Our AC was a bit noisy. And Belize city is not a very great place.
For the most part, it was excellent: location, staff, etc.
The daily housekeeping crew kept missing the corners and behind doors, breakfast was not worthwhile. Same things every day, IF you were lucky to get there at 6am. The security guard kept telling us we could not park in the lot unless we were guests at the hotel or restaurant. We were guests at the hotel, but just because I am a Belizean, he seemed to assume I was not. Was a bit upsetting.
Clean. Pretty house but staff was not too helpful with restaurant. They sent me down to the restaurant but it wasn't open . They should of known. No bar. Expected an open air bar.
Rooms have character and each is individually decorated. I got to see several and they all had special features. Most looked to be reasonably freshly updated. But carpet in common areas is a let down. Staff are really helpful and friendly. When my air conditioning failed, they worked really hard to sort it out even though the solution was not ideal. (The room I ended up with was smaller, and smelt of smoke despite this being a non smoking establishment). A generous sized bottle of water is provided (much bigger than Radisson's effort) plus crackers in addition to coffee. Voucher for breakfast at café next door is appreciated. But it was crowded, service was slow and there is no option if you prefer to avoid carbs.
Unreliable air conditioning. Mine failed utterly and I had to shift rooms to a smaller and less convenient room. I had to request a discount, as it was not offered. No room service available. The restaurant on site is unrelated to the hotel, but surely an arrangement could be reached? Systems need improvement. The power went down when I was checking out, and there was uncertainty about how to process the payment. The carpet in the corridors definitely needs replacing. It lets down the whole place
staff was friendly.
The room smelled like mildew. YUCK. They don't have a generator, so when the power went out, there was no electric, water, wifi. Raddison next door was fully up and running. I would stay there next time.
The reception is very good
Not having a pool :(
The house and room big, and old style, but in a very good conditions
Have breakfast outside.
The Great House Inn was a lovely comforting place to stay in Belize City with its colonial architecture and situated in a safe part of town. It has everything you need and the staff made us feel welcome.
It seems a little expensive, but you have to remember you are Belize City, so the money was worth the peace of mind.
I loved how friendly and helpful the staff was. The building is beautiful — huge, comfortable porches that catch the ocean breezes. Way better than the big resort across the street in that respect. The location was great with bars and restaurants within walking distance.
The AC was an older unit that got rather tired as the night went on, but we were still totally comfortable.
Elegant hotel. Friendly staff.
The friendly staff, ambiance, the verandas and comfortable seating on them, the breakfast coupons for next door, and the rooms were large and comfortable.
Took a while to get a bucket of ice, no machine on site.
very convenient location for walking around. The oversized room was most comfortable and staff were very helpful.
My partner had difficulty going up and down the stairs in order to get out for any activities. Guests outside on the porch talking loudly at 5:30 - 6 a.m. was very disruptive to trying to sleep.
The location was perfect. In close proximity to everything. The hotel was clean. The staff we encountered were courteous and knowledge. We ate in the restaurant below the hotel. La Petite which was included was amazing. The cinnimon rolls and patties were delicious. Loved the walk-in closet with light. Used the safe. Loved sitting on the wraP-AROUND porch. Felt like you were in the south.
Would have loved to be in a room other than #1. The ceiling fan and air conditioning was very noisy. I would have loved to have dinner without the cats in the restaurant. The table between the beds needs to be dusted everyday. The comforters need to be replaced with a more modern duvet and turned down sheets. WiFi never worked for us.
Yasmin was fabulous. Without her help last minute, our stay in Belize city would have been miserable. This hotel works especially hard to accommodate YOU, including any special request you may have. We stayed at 3 places on our 14 dat visit, and the service at this place was superb compared to the other two. We loved Belize City the best. :)
Absolutely no complaints. This place, especially Yasmin, is the most accommodating host. Because of her, our stay was perfect. :)
It's a very pretty building and has charm
Having traveled all over Belize, the price was high for the value. Maybe it's just Belize City.
The staff was helpful and cheerful.
The hotel was tired-looking and needed repairs (caulking in bath, old fixtures, etc). No elevator (although porter was always available) Bright lights on all night outside without all windows having shades (curtains, yes) Breakfast was mediocre at best. The place had no fresh fruit. Maybe we ordered the wrong type of breakfast breads bse the restaurant had a lot of patrons. No wifi at breakfast restaurant located next door bse we were not staying at the right hotel. Hotel price was waayyyy too high at $190. Maybe worth $100 at best.
Having spent a week in wonderful Guatemala, Belize was a shock to the system. Dirty, run down and dishevelled would be the best descriptions of Belize City and what we saw of the surrounding countryside was not much better. That said, we had a surprisingly pleasant stay at the Great House. We were initially concerned the room would be noisy as it was on the main floor right opposite reception but it wasn’t. The room was large, well appointed and with a good, modern bathroom. Fittings were fairly new and everything was spotlessly clean. No restaurant but the Smoky Mermaid on the ground floor in the same building was very good, albeit a haven for mosquitos. If you have to stay in Belize City, from what we saw, the Great House was one of the best options and very well located if you are departing from the Radisson Dock for any of the islands; also easy walking distance to the water taxi dock.
Great staff and a nice piece of history.
Make sure you don't get the cab driver who preaches to you the entire way to the airport!!!!! 30 minutes !!
