Samara is a fairly busy small town that has a lovely beach.
Samara is a fairly busy small town that has a lovely beach. There are many other beaches nearby. It has quite a few restaurants and cafes to choose from. Lots of great fish. Prices are "reasonable" by comparison with some fancier locations along the coast, but all prices in US dollars are high for Canadians.
Just two hours from Liberia airport, this town has a laid back feel. Not sure how long that will last.

Samara is a funky little beach town with lots of little eateries and shops, and a number of restaurants right on the beach undercover with enough variety to make it interesting. There were also enough activities and beaches in the area to enjoy.

This is a great little town with a beautiful beach and yummy food options. We wish we could have spent more time here to explore the different restaurants a bit more. We hope to come back soon! We also really enjoyed the neighboring beach of Carrillo, which we drove to - but it didn't have food options the way Samara did.

A wonderful walkable town with many restaurants, excellent couple massages, friendly community, and beautiful beaches. I did the Warner preserve tour with a native Samarian - he was EXCELLENT - a fantastic visit. My husband and I are thinking about coming back and staying much longer. The community seems very low key - just the right pace for us :)

The beach and ocean are beautiful.
The beach and ocean are beautiful. There are lots of restaurants and fun bars to have a drink. The city government has to work harder at keeping the town clean. Sidewalks, store fronts and some restaurants need to be improved, there were so many flies at one of the restaurants where we ate, that we ended up having to leave. There is very limited parking, there should be a place where excursion buses can park further away from town, it feels chaotic.
This stay was perfect! If you are looking for being in touch with Costa Rica’s wonderful nature then this is the place for you! Celine was the nicest and made sure everything was good for us. The tent is surprisingly comfortable, with very very little insects. However, if you do not like being around animals of if tiny bugs bother you it’s not worth to come and then complain :) just know what to expect and enjoy the wonderful shade under the florest trees, with families of monkeys and coatis walking around
Laura is a brilliant host and the location is stunning. She’s has created a little slice of heaven up on the top of a mountain. Yes you will def need a 4x4 and the roads are very ‘Costa rican’ but what awaits is truly worth it. The food - from breakfast to the dinner options were really nice.
Laura went out of her way to help us with her onward travel and we can’t thank her enough.
There is also 3 lovely friendly dogs, 2 cats and a pig called Brad Pig. What more could you really ask for…
This hostel is in the heart of Sámara, great location. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Nothing fancy just a good room for the price and can walk to everything. 7 minute walk to the beach. Grocery stores across the street and restaurants all around you. Go on the dolphin tour, for $50 US it was four hours long. We watched dolphins for over half and hour then we watched 8 humpbacks for about 35 to 40 mins, it was amazing!!!!!
The property was absolutely spectacular. The pool was surrounded by lush greenery, the restaurant was beautiful, and right on the beach with delicious food and drinks. The beach was gorgeous and the ocean was safe for all my kids to play in. The location of the hotel was perfect - right on the beach and a block from town. The beach was also very walkable. It truly felt like paradise on the grounds of this hotel.
We live in Costa Rica and escape to Samara as often as possible. We have stayed Casa Maiana for many years under prior and found the new owners Thierry and Christina to be gracious, welcoming and available to answer any questions you have. Casa Maiana is perfectly located for discovering Samara on foot - close to the beach, restaurants, cafes and supermarkets but off the beaten path and quiet. Highly recommend!
The restaurant is amazing, lovely setting under the huge tree canopy, the staff are delightful, the food was amazing. You have free beach beds and cushions included in your stay. The beach is one of the best beaches we visited so far up the west coast of Costa Rica. Perfect waves for jumping! Great places to eat and have a drink down the beach and the town of Samara is really lovely. Lovely people.
From what we could see by walking around the town, this was probably one of the nicest hotels in Samara. The staff was extremely nice and helpful and even arranged a dolphin excursion for us through Samara Adventures (definitely recommended). It’s a short walk to the beach so good location as well. Rooms are not huge but definitely big enough and we were a family of 4. Highly recommended.
You won't find more helpful and genuine hosts anywhere.. If you're reading this, just book it. An amazing magical place, full of high quality design & character. Plus it's a minutes walk to one of the best beaches in Costa Rica (according to the guide books, and I would agree). Very private & quiet with scarlet macaws overhead !
Lovely traditional Costa Rican apartment very well kitted out kitchen with large fridge and a freezer also. Close to the beach and supermarkets.
The host was exceptional, very responsive to my questions. I had caught sun the previous day and she knocked on my door with some aloe Vera which was very sweet.
Thank you for my stay.
Vince and his mother provided the best service we have experienced during all our travels. the property was well maintained and lovely. it is located conveniently near sodas and restaurants. it is a short walk to one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica! The breakfasts are indescribably delicious!
What a nice small hotel with a delicious breakfast. The restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner as well as drinks throughout the day. The pool is nice with a few lounge chairs and umbrellas. It is a short walk to one of the nicest beaches in the area. (better than Playa Carrillo in my opinion)
The location was beautiful and so peaceful in nature. My room was great and the hotel pool was nice. The nearby beach was way less crowded than the other beaches I went to, only a handful of people there each day. The food at the restaurant was really good, it felt like getting a home cooked meal!
This is the place you must be in Costa Rica. The perfect mix between jungle and high-level services.
You can hear the monkeys singing from your place, still you get to have a delicious "gallo pinto" for breakfast (ora whatever else you need).
Staff is super, always smiley!
Great location right on the quiet end of Samara Beach. Friendly, accommodating staff. Sister hotel one door down has a beautiful restaurant with a delicious, free breakfast right on the beach.
Great installations, amazing breakfast. Highly advise getting detaled instructions BEFORE setting out to this place. We are Costa Rican and still had to ask the owner to come out and get us.
Lovely hosts, good location on the edge of Samara and an easy walk to the beach and local area. The pool was a refreshing treat, gardens beautiful and a really pretty hotel.
we stayed in more than 8 high-class hotels/Airbnbs during our Costa Rica trip, yet good life lodge had the cleanest and most modern rooms of all of them
