Samara is a fairly busy small town that has a lovely beach.
Samara is a fairly busy small town that has a lovely beach. There are many other beaches nearby. It has quite a few restaurants and cafes to choose from. Lots of great fish. Prices are "reasonable" by comparison with some fancier locations along the coast, but all prices in US dollars are high for Canadians.
Just two hours from Liberia airport, this town has a laid back feel. Not sure how long that will last.

Samara is a funky little beach town with lots of little eateries and shops, and a number of restaurants right on the beach undercover with enough variety to make it interesting. There were also enough activities and beaches in the area to enjoy.

This is a great little town with a beautiful beach and yummy food options. We wish we could have spent more time here to explore the different restaurants a bit more. We hope to come back soon! We also really enjoyed the neighboring beach of Carrillo, which we drove to - but it didn't have food options the way Samara did.

A wonderful walkable town with many restaurants, excellent couple massages, friendly community, and beautiful beaches. I did the Warner preserve tour with a native Samarian - he was EXCELLENT - a fantastic visit. My husband and I are thinking about coming back and staying much longer. The community seems very low key - just the right pace for us :)

The beach and ocean are beautiful.
The beach and ocean are beautiful. There are lots of restaurants and fun bars to have a drink. The city government has to work harder at keeping the town clean. Sidewalks, store fronts and some restaurants need to be improved, there were so many flies at one of the restaurants where we ate, that we ended up having to leave. There is very limited parking, there should be a place where excursion buses can park further away from town, it feels chaotic.
The location was excellent, five minute walk to one of the nicest beach’s in Costa Rica. we stayed in the “Bungalow” which was a stand alone unit with full fridge and stove, we did not make us of the stove as there are a few great restaurants within a few minutes walk. there are also two small “grocery” stores close by. the breakfast that Millie served each morning was excellent, 4 or 5 different options, I think I had them all! we would not hesitate to stay here again!
- Great, super friendly host Nathan and assistant Josue (who also offers photography services)
- Exceptional dinner (fresh, grilled tuna) and breakfast - best food we had in our whole trip through Costa Rica.. Try it!
- we received many helpful tipps from Nathan for the local area and Costa Rica in general
- very modern, spotless clean rooms with plenty of space and comfortable king-size bed
- Awesome sea view from pool and the bungalow's terraces)
LaMaite is a very special place, tranquil, spacious, the kids loved the pool! Maite, our hostess, was wonderful, warm, welcoming and very knowledgeable recommending beaches and places to visit. We loved the welcome Costa Rica breakfast and other treats, Maite made for us.We rented bicycles from the soda on the corner for our first week and had a car for the latter part of our visit to explore further. Smiles 😊 🙂 Jody and Family
I liked everything. The style, you really feel in Costa Rica with the plants around, wooden balconies, birds singing, etc. It's relaxing. Very cute private single room with private bathroom, balcony and hammock. Super clean, there's everything to cook, good free coffee, clean beautiful pool, very welcoming and helpful staff. One of the best hotels I have been to in Costa Rica. I would certainly come back and for many nights.
It was an amazing experience, with the hotel being located in the middle of Samara and really close (walking distance) to the beach! The rooms with the garden view were nice and spacious with a king sized bed and a adequately sized bathroom. The pool areas were also amazing with two pools and a beautiful landscape and garden. The balconies overlooked the yard and had a table with chairs to enjoy the atmosphere.
Casa Buenavista is a beautiful, well-organized, clean, stylish and very chill bed&breakfast, located on just a 10min walking distance of the most beautiful beach of Costa Rica, Carillo Beach. The hosts have done their utmost best to make this place a little paradise... at a paradise beach. Beware, the breakfast is huge, and although based on the typical gallo pinto, the variations will make you happy.
Beautiful location in the jungle just 100 yards from a beach. Beautiful Carrillo beach was a very short drive away. The restaurant was very good. All staff spoke excellent English and were very attentive. The room was spacious and had nice seating. We saw iguanas, 20 howler monkeys and several macaws from our hotel. Be sure to walk to the beach for sunset!
Everything was fucking good! Food is amazing, pool area is super chill, staff super friendly and the owner is super crazy in very cool way. The beach is one of them with nobody, easy access through jungle. Also guests are very interesting. I definitely recommend this place if you want to experience nature and rest in the costa rican (and german) way!!
The staff was incredible! Carolina, Mateo and Javier made us feel so welcome.
The location was right across the street from the beach ... literally a 2 minute walk
We loved the location in Samara. We stayed in Playa Carrillo last years and were so happy when we were able to book Villas Kalimba - an amazing boutique hotel/property!
Lovely traditional Costa Rican apartment very well kitted out kitchen with large fridge and a freezer also. Close to the beach and supermarkets.
The host was exceptional, very responsive to my questions. I had caught sun the previous day and she knocked on my door with some aloe Vera which was very sweet.
Thank you for my stay.
Everything was amazing - the lush, well-kept grounds complete with iguanas and coatis (and howler monkeys roaming around), the beautiful pool w/ a waterfall, the spacious bungalow with a gorgeous outdoor shower. The staff and owner were very friendly and helpful. We want to come back to Costa Rica just to stay here!
The property is beautiful. The only reason to stay here is location. Right on the beach is a wonderful thing. Staff are so welcoming and kind. Being able to use the next hotels, Lo Canda, restaurant for breakfast and their pool was the highlight of our stay besides the location. I will book there next visit.
This is the place you must be in Costa Rica. The perfect mix between jungle and high-level services.
You can hear the monkeys singing from your place, still you get to have a delicious "gallo pinto" for breakfast (ora whatever else you need).
Staff is super, always smiley!
This accomodation was our favourite one in Costa Rica.
The hosts are super lovely and give you any support you need.
The position of the lodge is ideal to get to the beach or to the next supermarket.
The rooms are beautiful and the pool was perfect.

Lovely small comfortable hotel in a quiet location. Spacious rooms. Well located near the beach….albeit the quieter end of the beach away from central Samara. Near Playa Carillo which is also worth a visit…less touristy.
One of the best hostels I stayed in Costa Rica. Great location, Value for Price and one of the best, well stocked kitchens out of the dozens of hostels I visited in Costa Rica. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Clean rooms, great beach, walking distance to Samara center (but not thaaat close...), great staff, and the food in the restaurant is awesome - get the seafood pasta!
