Samara is a fairly busy small town that has a lovely beach.
Samara is a fairly busy small town that has a lovely beach. There are many other beaches nearby. It has quite a few restaurants and cafes to choose from. Lots of great fish. Prices are "reasonable" by comparison with some fancier locations along the coast, but all prices in US dollars are high for Canadians.
Just two hours from Liberia airport, this town has a laid back feel. Not sure how long that will last.

Samara is a funky little beach town with lots of little eateries and shops, and a number of restaurants right on the beach undercover with enough variety to make it interesting. There were also enough activities and beaches in the area to enjoy.

This is a great little town with a beautiful beach and yummy food options. We wish we could have spent more time here to explore the different restaurants a bit more. We hope to come back soon! We also really enjoyed the neighboring beach of Carrillo, which we drove to - but it didn't have food options the way Samara did.

A wonderful walkable town with many restaurants, excellent couple massages, friendly community, and beautiful beaches. I did the Warner preserve tour with a native Samarian - he was EXCELLENT - a fantastic visit. My husband and I are thinking about coming back and staying much longer. The community seems very low key - just the right pace for us :)

The beach and ocean are beautiful.
The beach and ocean are beautiful. There are lots of restaurants and fun bars to have a drink. The city government has to work harder at keeping the town clean. Sidewalks, store fronts and some restaurants need to be improved, there were so many flies at one of the restaurants where we ate, that we ended up having to leave. There is very limited parking, there should be a place where excursion buses can park further away from town, it feels chaotic.
I had a wonderful stay at Tico Adventure Lodge. The staff is super friendly and helpful. My room was very clean and had a great balcony to relax. The bathroom facilities were quite new and there was even warm water, which is not common in many other places in Costa Rica. The property is very special with lots of trees, a little pool and a great open communal kitchen/dining area with free coffee every morning. The location is geat - very central, a short walk from the beach and the town's center with lots of different dining and
Laura is a brilliant host and the location is stunning. She’s has created a little slice of heaven up on the top of a mountain. Yes you will def need a 4x4 and the roads are very ‘Costa rican’ but what awaits is truly worth it. The food - from breakfast to the dinner options were really nice.
Laura went out of her way to help us with her onward travel and we can’t thank her enough.
There is also 3 lovely friendly dogs, 2 cats and a pig called Brad Pig. What more could you really ask for…
The hut is owned by a person of European descent which may be the reason why the usual drawbacks of accommodations in Costa Rica were absent here: There were no loose water taps, non-functional power outlets or the like; everything was well maintained and selected with a great love for details. The hut is best equipped, cozy and in the middle of the jungle. The other reviewers did not exaggerate: You really can watch the monkeys while doing the dishes.
Beautiful hotel with lush plants everywhere! so charming and relaxing. Magnificent pools and privacy. Tucked away from the town yet the town is still easily accessible. We totally loved it! The walk to the beach through the cozy chill town is super quick and lovely. Lots of fauna and flora to admire on property. Our favorite stay in Costa Rica hands down. BEST place for a relaxing CR vacay!
Location: Easy access to town. If you stay in hotels located farther east than this hotel, it is recommended to walk on beach to/from town.
Beach: stunning and super clean. we really like to relax in the cabana. they have also several beach chairs are on the beach.
Restaurant: The taste is good. they take time, but we were there on vacation. It was not problem.
This place is absolutely worth it in terms of value for money! Samara has been the most authentic place of our Costa Rica trip, and that’s mostly thanks to our stay at El Pequeño Gecko Verde! Houses are authentic and very clean, breakfast is superb, location is a bit further away from Samara’s main Center but definitely doable and therefore also more quiet.
your in town but secluded and safe. across the street is beautiful beach good for swimming and surfing. there is a supermarket next to the property. The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need. The staff was the most gracious, friendly and helpful we have ever encountered in the 20+ years we have been traveling to Costa Rica.
Ideal place to rest in a peaceful environment. Surrounded by green fields and trees, the hotel is an oasis. The couple managing it are some of the best people you will meet in Costa Rica. Rooms are comfi, the beds are amazing and AC is a big plus. The breakfast was one of my favourite throughout my trip in Costa Rica
The hotel is beautifully located in lovely, landscaped garden with a perfect pool. The rooms were comfortably sized and good beds. All the staff were very helpful in arranging various details and excursions for us. It is a short walk into the town of Samara which is great for the beaches and variety of restaurants.
We were so happy to find this gem in Samara. The price is very reasonable for the comfort of the room and the facilities, including a large pool. The hotel is 5 min walking to the main part of Samara. To top it off, the hosts are very friendly and are always willing to share recommendations of things to do nearby.
This small hotel is a little gem of paradise. It is located in a quiet area of Playa Samara and is right on the beach. It is only a short walk down the beach to the town. The food is excellent and the staff was very friendly and personal. They give attention to keeping the place clean and safe.
The hotel is located in a quiet area close to the beach on a slope with beautiful views of the water and beach. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very spacious and clean. Breakfast was excellent. Within walking distance to several local restaurants.
The room and share areas like the pool were clean. They offer pool and beach towel which is convenient for light packers. Also there is a very good Italian restaurant in the first floor were you get 20% off if you are staying in the hotel.
Amazing place!! Our favourite in Costa Rica so far!! Its right on the beach!!
+ Beautiful not crowded beach with calm water (great for kids)
+ Tasty (5 options) breakfast
+ Monkeys on top of trees
+ Friendly helpful stuff
Lovely hotel tucked away between two beaches with frequently visiting monkeys, iguanas, birds and butterflies 🦋 Very comfortable rooms, freshly cooked breakfast. 2 min walk to Sámara beach
Nathan and his family welcomed me very warmly and supported me in many ways. The view was just amazing. Breakfast was great too. This was my best stay in Costa Rica.
Very nice hotel and friendly/helpful staff. Close to the beach (2 minutes walk) and central. Would definetly recommend to stay here when you visit Sámara.
