The views are spectacular! We went to Carara National Park, which was a 5-10 minute drive away (depending on the traffic at the Crocodile Bridge) and, although we loved the park, we didn't see even half the number of birds and monkeys that we ended up seeing from the "mirador" here at Tarcoles Birding Lodge. We saw "motmots", families of "lapas", and dozens of capuchin monkeys. The meals, which cost $10-20 extra per person, were all delicious, and are especially worth it because that is when you see all the local fauna come out of the forest. They chop up some extra fruit to set out for the monkeys, but at a safe distance from the hotel grounds, so you can get good photos and videos of them without feeling like you're crossing any lines. There is also an amazing swimming pool and lounge area where we could have spent another several days just hanging around there, it was so nice! The rooms were spacious and had good air conditioning (a must, because it is VERY hot and humid around that area). The staff were all wonderful, and very helpful with tips and info about the flora and fauna of the area, and the dogs that live on-site were all adorable and sweet!
