This eco-friendly, boutique hotel is located in pretty Santa Teresa on the Nicoya Peninsula. The Eco Chic Hotel Canaima Chill House was booked quickly, as there were not a lot of options left, save for crowded hostels and dormitories. It was slightly out of my price range, but occasionally, I like to splurge. I have spent enough time in this country convincing people I am not rich... I might as well second guess myself from time to time. It was eco. It was chill. And it was definitely chic. WOW! There was NOTHING wrong with this place. In fact, had I been blessed with a more affluent and luxurious lifestyle, I might consider staying here for a year... or more. It was my own personal Eden for the evening. My spacious, boutique suite could have accommodated 4-5 people, but I had the entire place to myself and I properly planned to use every single second of it. The room had a Sleeping Beauty bed, with full netting and grand windows where my head lie, giving a magical good morning view out into the garden, when I awoke. Even the shower had a jungle view... built right into the backside of the lush labyrinth. The gardens were tended to and cared for, but not pristine. They were symbolic of a 'chill' expression and mirrored that of the surrounding tropical entanglement. Wild. Lush. In the middle of my own private rainforest oasis, was a small pool, no bigger than that of a backyard plunge pool. After a refreshing dip, I climbed into the hammock chair that hung above the water, and relaxed, in pure harmony with nature, and enjoyed a glass of white wine. The colourful birds were chirping all around and the howler monkeys were making their eerie calls. The patio not only had a full bar table, with open windows into the kitchen area, but also a full glass table set, a hammock and a bamboo swinging bed. I lied there for at least two hours, dripping wet from the pool, and rocking back & forth, back & forth... back & forth. It was so soothing, I forgot to drink my wine!

Santa Teresa is becoming quite popular, and the prices definitely reflect this. We were not there during high season but just after as rainy season started. The weather was still awesome 98% of the time and we got great beach days. The shopping is good but pricey - think Los Angeles prices for boutiques. We ate at Rocamar twice because the food was affordable, the sunsets unbeatable and the music fantastic. Very family-friendly. Banana Beach was a draw for the crowds but truthfully we had drinks (great) and calamari (not so good) and left because it was full of touristy folks looking for big box experiences, which we were not. We rented an atv for a day to head to Montezuma for the beach and waterfalls and ended up loving the shops and restaurants right on the water in that little place, so definitely do that on one of your days! We did the Isla Tortuga tour from our stay at Buena Onda and it was worth the cost considering they picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel, provided snorkel gear, and fed us lunch and beers! Overall Santa Teresa was lovely. We were happy we did this stay for 6 nights and definitely would stay again. Be sure your accommodations are on the actual beach and/or you are aware of the hills going to your hotels! And finally, we as a late thirties couple with no kids didn't feel the need for a car and were happy to not have paid exorbitant amounts of money to rent one. We took a private shuttle from Liberia airport ($300 with tip for a 5 hour ride) to ST then another to Rio Perdido in Bagaches ($475 with tip) for a 4 day stay in the jungle and from there to the airport ($164). It was well worth not driving and we paid way less for three private cars than we would have done to drive. Santa Teresa overall was a great bougie beach town. If you're looking for less tourism Nosara and Montezuma might be worth looking into on Nicoya!
We loved the little town, Gigi Brown was down a ways so we were at peace to sleep. You can hear the howler monkeys all day and night! So amazing! We took an ATV to Montemzuma for a day to the waterfalls and with "Crazy Carlos", I highly recommend finding this guy! He made our day! And we have amazing couples photos because of him. Jumping off waterfalls and he took us to some amazing places we would have never been.
Unforgettable Stay Before I booked this excellent hotel, I had question marks because it is new. But I had a unique experience, so I extended my stay for one more night.! Certainly one of the best hotels I've been to during my visits to Costa Rica. They have upgraded me to a room on the beach with a fantastic ocean view. The room has a private pool. The room was spacious and well decorated. Shannel, the property manager, and her staff make my stay unforgettable. The breakfast and the food were delicious too. I am sure that I will come back again.
Traveled the world, and this beach is in my top 3! For surfers it doesn't get much better. Incredible wide, clean beaches, lovely people, and amazing sunsets. The rocks make for amazing tide pools my kids couldn't wait to get out and explore every day. My second time here and it looks there a now life guards, which is a plus. The sunsets are not to be missed !
The beach is awesome but the crowd became (looking 9 yrs back) oversexed & the attitude became too cool to be real. The ATVs are to aggressive and are destroying the atmosphere - also the way the people are driving them. Costa Rica - as a part of its green & eco image - should foster bikes and pedestrians (no side walk in ST!). And the prizes... sometimes really kind of overpriced but sometimes you can find value & money. For families: stay more in north of ST.
A community for young people as it seems that the average age is under 30years old. Nevertheless, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I thought it was the capital of beautiful girls on ATV as it is the main form of transportation on Main Street the narrow dirty road does not allow to travel at a fast rate but it has its charm. It is definitely a place to visit and the fact that it is still maintain as a raw environmental setting without the commercialize aspect normally observed on beachfront, Santa Teresa is extremely well preserve as far as environment is concern, Bravo!!!
Santa Teresa Beach
The property was like having your own apartment studio in Costa Rica. Everything was brand new and clean and worked perfectly. The location is ideal for anyone visiting Santa Teresa as it is in the liveliest part of the town between Santa Teresa and Mal Pais, and a 2 min walk to the beach. Furthermore, the host Sara was the most helpful person - she also booked a tour for us and helped us beyond our check out. It was the best location we went to in Costa Rica and was also a great value!
It was the best hotel out of all I stayed in Santa Ana! It looks much better in real life than in photos. Major plus is the rooms are far away from the road, so you hear the ocean instead of car engines. Beautiful area, pool, animals in the trees. Super nice staff, helpful, accommodating and friendly. The room is decorated in warm, pleasant colours, very comfy and nice. It was as expensive as any place in Santa Teresa, but in this case the price felt (somewhat) justified.
Santa Teresa Beach
La posada stuff was super nice and kind, they helped me with everything I needed. Breakfast was good and the dorms are clean and welcoming. Kitchen is always clean and if you have groceries you can put them in the fridge or the pantry in a basket with your name labeled on it. Bathroom is pretty big, no warm water but it’s a common thing in all Santa Teresa in general. I enjoy my time in la posada so much!
This boutique hotel has a modern aesthetic. It’s open community space - lounge, dining and pool area overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Sunsets are magnificent from this location. The location also can’t be beat. Just a few minutes walk to the beach and restaurants. Best of all, the owners are so hospitable and helpful with suggestions for your stay. I highly recommend the Mint experience!
Santa Teresa Beach
I spent 9 nights at the Gatos Rojas and really enjoyed it. I met incredible people that all became friends and took surf lessons with Marcos, Rudy and Carlos that really helped me to go to the next level. These guys are the incarnation of surf and really want you to improve. Would have stayed an entire life in that hostel and with these people. Best stay in Santa Teresa ! Gracias
Santa Teresa Beach
Santeria Lodge was the perfect place for our stay in Santa Teresa. Valentina and her husband were warm and friendly, the pool was clean and refreshing and our favorite part was getting to meet others staying at the lodge. We loved cooking in the kitchen and how close the accommodation was to the beach, grocery store and delicious restaurants. Highly recommend!
Santa Teresa Beach
Really nice property, clean and comfortable rooms, yummy breakfast and overall lovely and caring hosts. Set back from the main road, the location is perfect for staying in Santa Teresa - both quiet and close to restaurants, shops and beach. We as well took Surf-lessons with Jared, which we can highly recommend to everybody wanting to get on the board!
I had a very enjoyable stay at Luz de Luna. The room is spacious, and the private hammock with view on the garden was perfect to relax. The hotel is also ideally located in Santa Teresa, very close to the beach and main road. Christophe the owner was also very helpful regarding tips to enjoy the area, I highly recommend !
Santa Teresa Beach

The property is gorgeous, the staff is so friendly and accommodating for all your needs and the facilities were always clean. I would recommend staying here to anyone who visits Santa Teresa and is looking for a quiet escape.
Excellent boutique hotel. Owner and staff very friendly and helpful. Place was kept spotless. Pool was awesome. No complaints. Highly recommend it. We have been to CR numerous times and this little place is great.

The setting was like a private garden sanctuary. The grounds and pool are beautiful. Hospitality from the owner Luciano and property manager, Juan, was superb. Juan was super helpful, promptly answering all our questions and making it easy to enjoy our stay.
Quality of Service, quality of food and drinks, attention to detail of staff. Location of hotel. Room and bed were very comfortable.
