Picture perfect Heidelberg is guarded by its famous castle halfway up a hill. If you don’t feel like walking, a funicular train goes there and continues to Königstuhl Mountain whose views are fit for the king it is named after. Dating to the 13th century, the ruined castle has peaceful landscaped grounds to wander, and the Heidelberg Tun, the world’s biggest wine barrel. And big it is!
At the foot of the hill is cobbled Hauptstrasse, supposedly Germany’s longest pedestrian shopping street selling traditional German beer mugs amongst other things. Also here are sidewalk cafes, the odd bierkeller and several Heidelberg hotels.
A short walk west is the Heiliggeistkirche (Church of the Holy Spirit), towering above the Baroque old town. Its square is the site of the Heidelberg Christmas markets, while to the north the beautiful Old Bridge crosses the Neckar River and ends at a twin-towered city gate.
Further west is Heidelberg University, the oldest in Germany and with a national reputation to rival Cambridge, its sister city. Over the river, Neckarwiese is a riverside park popular with students for a barbecue and beer, while by night the city’s many bars stay open until the early hours (and beyond!).
The nearest airports – Frankfurt and Stuttgart – both offer quick access by train to the Heidelberg accommodations on Booking.com

Heidelberg station could do with a luggage storage facility at the train station. Though there is one at the tourist office just outside the station, its expensive and available during the working hours of the tourist office which is 10:00 - 17:00 hrs. It is not run by the Tourist Office but by another service provider.

Heidelberg is a stunning place, but perhaps it's a victim of its own success and I would think twice about going there at the height of the tourist season. Even on a wet Saturday morning in May, the old bridge was packed with Chinese tourists taking selfies, so I can't begin to imagine what it's like in the summer. My advice would be to go off season, have an early breakfast and wander the streets before the shops open.

Heidelberg is probably the most beautiful city I have visited in Germany. It looks like something out of a fairy tale. You can also enjoy nature in this city, I took the philosopher way and ended up on top of a mountain. It was just fantastic.

We just stopped for one night, between trains so just had a few hours and the evening. The Altstadt was very nice to wander round, and for a beer and dinner. I would like to go back and visit the castle, and see more of the town and area.

Christmas Market and all the wonderful Christmas shops.
Christmas Market and all the wonderful Christmas shops. Castle, funicular railway and the Old Town. The riverside, cafes and lovely restaurants, and just wandering through alleyways and coming upon lovely finds. Super friendly people and feeling really safe.
This hotel is absolutely lovely - the reception area is pristine and modern. Although our room wasn't quite ready on check in because the hotel was sold out, we were able to leave our luggage here and begin our visit to Heidelberg. We dealt with 2 girls at reception, both incredibly busy but incredibly helpful. I couldn't praise them enough. The breakfast was absolutely gorgeous too, with so much to choose from. The rooms were spotless and clearly newly decorated. Everything was to notch - I couldn't fault it.
This hotel is located in the old town of Heidelberg which is wonderful. You can park in public parking nearby, however could not find the area the hotel instructed us to go to, so we had to pay the EUR 19 per 24 hours parking. We had a room on the 4th floor and there is no elevator, so it might be difficult to reach with all your luggage. We had no "blackout" curtains and only a fan. When I booked the hotel I did not check on an elevator or air conditioning, so the surprise was my own fault. Breakfast was fine.
Everything! It’s a really good hotel - small and friendly with very helpful staff. There’s onsite parking for a reasonable cost and the bus to the old town stops just across the road and runs until midnight. The journey takes under 10 minutes. Our room was very spacious and comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel overlooks the river Neckar (next time we’ll book a room with a river view) and was easy to find. Heidelberg is a lovely city and well worth a visit.
Everything, especially the balcony right next to the Neckar river, where you can see the beautiful traditional houses and forested mountainous terrain. This hotel is run by a beautiful family who go out of their way to give advice and tips about Heidelberg sightseeing or anything else.
The bed is orthopedic, adapts to the body contours, therefore is both extremely comfortable and very good for the body.
Bus to the centre is just outside.Major supermarket is 3 minutes walk away.
Lovely view looking down the mountain at Heidelberg. The hotel has been freshly renovated and is very nicely furnished. The bar had a nice interior and great patio view. The bartender we helpful, informative and very skilled at making delicious cocktails. The food in the restaurant was tasty and the service was very good. Lots of parking in the garage. Riding the railway down the hillside into town was easy and fun. The driver was very kind, friendly and informative.
The hotel is fairly new. It is clean and well maintained.
The halls are quiet, and you do not hear your neighbors.
There is a communal kitchen that is well stocked with pots and pans and dishes, etc.
The concept is unique, but we always found it to be very clean and tidy.
The clientele of the guests is varied, from packpackers to business people to families and groups in every age category.
The hotel is a 10 minute walk to th main transit station of Heidelberg.
Very comfortable hotel in the Old City of Heidelberg. Shopping, restaurants and sightseeing are all at walking distance. The room is very clean, and the bed is comfortable. Staff is helpful, making sure check-in and out is smooth. No private parking available, but that is to be expected in the Old City. Heidelberg has an absolutely beautiful old city, and for sight-seeing it is very much advisable to have a hotel here.
This is a nice traditional hotel that is surprisingly pet friendly in a quiet neighborhood in the outskirts of Heidelberg. It is a few minutes walk to the Castle overlooking Old Town. The hotel has nicely kept grounds with plenty of tables and seating with nice views outside. The accommodations are pretty good, and meet all my expectations for a hotel. The price for two nights stay with pets was not bad at all.
The hotel is located on the top of the mountain and just a few steps way to take the cable car to Heidelberg Castle and old town with guest discount. We had a breakfast there, which has a lot of choices. Our rooms is very clean and looks luxury. The receptionist is very nice and her suggestions let us finish the touring in the afteroon that we arrived with such a nice autumn weather.
The location is fantastic - right in the heart of Altstadt Heidelberg. The place is a little oasis in the midst of the busy scene near the Old Bridge (Altabrücke). The room was large and comfortable with a little seating area. The breakfast was phenomenal and the outdoor space for eating is very peaceful. We also enjoyed one dinner in the hotel restaurant. It was superb.
The location of the hotel in relationship to everything in old town is excellent. The hotel is across the street from the old town Bridge with the monkey and is an easy 5 minute walk to the castle fanicular. There are pleanty of restaurants next-door and close to the hotel. The room was spacious, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious.
The location was great for walking around Heidelberg. On the patio, one can see the Castle on top of the hill which is impressive all lit up at night. Breakfast had good variety. The Hotel was actually on upper levels of Parking Garage, which was surprising.
The room and bathroom was very spacious and clean. Location is roughly 100 meters from parking and walk platz. Breakfast was great, not crowded even with hotel sold out during our stay. Outside courtyard was nice mix of new and old Heidelberg.
The location of the hotel was accessible to tram & bus, 10 minutes walk going to the heidelberg hbf.The staff in the reception
area are friendly. The room and facility was clean. We are happy and satisfied for our 2 days stay in the hotel.
Great value for a stay in Heidelberg. No frills hotel, but that's all you need sometimes. Check in was easy (and automated), room was comfortable, clean and quiet. Not sure what else one could need.
Hotel was perfect for our stay in Heidelberg! Great location.. within walking distance of Old Town and right on the River.. lovely views from our room of the Neckar River the breakfast was amazing!
The hotel is in a very nice neighboorhood. Clean and comfortable. Good selection of breakfast. The hotel staff is very polite. The Heidelberg city is just 10 minutes away by tram 24.
