Location was OK, 10-20min walk to center and 15min to the beach. Room was ok, not too fancy or big, but it was equipped with AC (I did not use it) and roof fan (silent to use). Nice staff.

Nice and helpful staff.
English-spanish required a bit using translator, but without problems.
Roof top pool/jacuzzi was nice.
Rooms had a bit variation between the views and interior properties, but the available rooms were shown to us first and we were able to choose which we wanted and we paid after that.

For myself, I am not always happy on a beach vacation because I need plenty to keep me busy. A day or two less would've been fine, but that was not the fault of the resort.
Puerto Plata was OK. Not that much to see there. We did take the cable car up to the top of Isabel de Torres, and that was very pleasant. We also took a driver out to Carbarete Beach and el choco Park, which we enjoyed. I would not bother with Damajagua. There were perhaps 1000 people there when we went, and it was quite a zoo. For Various reasons, I ended up not going all the way up to the Falls, and I was perfectly happy not to have gone. My husband didn't care for it at all. The ride was all right, but the whole experience was not worth the effort. Too many people. Waiting in line in the wilderness is not our idea of a good time.

The town is great, the people are nice, but the hotels are in serious need of restoration and updating. I cant get over the fact that almost all the hotels on the coast there do not have proper hurricane protection, whether its shutters or hurricane resistant windows. Any direct hit by a hurricane will spell disaster for most hotels on the coast. Serious upgrading is needed on nearly every hotel.

I love Puerto Plata, the people are friendly.
I love Puerto Plata, the people are friendly. Smile and they will always respond in kind.
Be careful to not wear expensive jewelery on display as petty crime exists in less tourist areas, and cover your all inclusive band while out as you will be seen as a rich american and pestered.

I love the people of San Felipe de Puerto Plata and I love the beaches.
It is a safe place and beauty everywhere with lots to do. I love the downtown area with its many attractions like umbrella street, Paseo de Dona Blanca or pink place, Parque Central and also the many restaurants in the area. One of my favorites is El Patio de Frida. A nice casual Mexican restaurant near the downtown area and also Casa 40 is another one near by.

I enjoyed the beach, pool and serenity.
I enjoyed the beach, pool and serenity. I felt secure with the gated entry and security guard on duty. A list of shopping and dining locations screened by the owner would have been useful, but we vetured and survived. People were friendly and not too aggressive.

Facility was ok. Service was horrendous.
Facility was ok. Service was horrendous. They advertise 3 restaurant however only 1 available per day which required reservations but not available. Food was not very good and very limited options. Bar service - only draft beer and not very good. Bottle beer was additional, even President which should have been inclusive. No mini bar service! Would definitely not be back!!

Check in was a hassle, need to improve on that. Breakfast was not bad. It was actually pretty good, although it was limited on choices to drink. That hotel is in need of some serious maintenance. Very poorly maintained and outdated. Couldn't even take a hot shower, no hot water. In this day in age, no hot water is rediculous. I mean, common really? My wife got sick for taking cold showers. This is not a third world country any more, that was maybe 30 years ago. To me, it felt like that hotel would not be open much longer.
Danièle is exceptionally helpful, friendly, and welcoming. She goes out of her way to answer any questions you might have, both before and after you have arrived. I arrived in the afternoon of Christmas Eve. She gathered some solo travelers from the hotel and took us for a drive and walk around town. Then she managed to find one of the few restaurants that were open, where we all had a lovely meal together. The hotel is very cozy and homey, with a large rooftop, a terrace, and a garden.
We looked for a place to stay for one night in Puerto Plata, and we found this gem, the photos are accurate, and we were surprised by how big our room was. The shower was very "high tech" with hot water. There was a nice little pool in the shared area. Breakfast was very good, and hosts were very accommodating. This is also one of the only places in the Dominican Republic where we had solid WiFi.
There is a very large super market very close, and some restaurants nearby.
Room air condition no working properly too much humidity in the room, too much. Areas at the entrance of the hotel after the lobby could be better, the fountains cleaner and working. The hot pool of the spa was dirty, needed cleaning, you could see dirty on the ducts, they couldn’t put the water really hot like spa, it was warm. Shows need to improve. Food and everyone at all level service was very, very good.
Unfortunately the marketing for this property is terribly misleading. Apart from the main lobby interiors which is very nice, the rest of the hotel does not have a welcoming appeal. It's very old, dated and Playa Dorada is like an abandoned walled off resort.
Housekeeping on the other hand do a good job (in the second room we were offered). And Nelson was a good waiter in the restaurant.
We booked 2 separate rooms ... every other room smells mold, the way you cant stand it. The changed it to a room that smells just a little bit mold. Over all this is nowhere near a 5star hotel as you might guessed, it seemd like in the Dom Rep they rate things like they want. In the real world this would be a stron 2star or maybe a 3star.
Staff was unpleasant and homophobic but this was my overall experience in the Dominican Republic cheated and overcharged every step of the way wouldn't send my enemy to this country I hope to never return. The moment they realize English speakers will be treated differently and mistreated and robbed every step of the way.
Mostly quiet, very clean, rooftop and everything you can need during a travel. Close from the guagua departure for Rio San Juan and Samana. Daniele has a lot of small attentions for the guests : map of the area, power switch in the room... Thanks also for the guided tour in the city, that was lovely 😊
one of the most friendly staff I ever encounter in any hotel and I stayed at some of the most expensive hotel.. from the front desk to the guest service staff at the buffet very very friendly... anyone looking for a hotel in Puerto Plata I would definitely recommend this hotel...
It was peaceful, quiet, beautiful nestled in the hills, so much more authentic than the all inclusive resorts. The kids loved the animals and pool. The seat swings, hammocks were complete perfection. Johan , the host, is very kind and responsive.
