We've stayed many times and in he past it was awesome, unfortunaely they've not kept up with maintenance and the room we booked was not the room we got and no one there cared.

Amazing place, very authentic, a little bit of paradise. Everything about Chalet Tropical is wonderful, the people, the atmosphere, the room, the breakfast, the attention to detail, the surroundings. If you want a relaxing, natural DR experience, then book today, you won't regret it!

Walking distance to a very nice beach. The host is very nice.
Las Galeras was quieter than the last time we came.
Las Galeras was quieter than the last time we came. We had lunch and dinner at L'aventura de john and the good food is always there. we had our own vehicle, so it was easy to move around even if the main road is temporarily in bad shape due to some work. The best with our 3 teenagers was to spend the day at the beach

Si quiet and so quaint , restaurants are so family oriented the food and the area surrounding el pelicano is like living in a fairy tale, loved it , I’m definitely going back again on my next trip to the Dominican Republic
Beautiful (almost wild) beaches, amazing plants/ nature, tranquility, no crowd, great food. You'll find plenty of attractions: El Limon waterfall, horse riding, Boca del Diablo, el Ricon beach and lagoon, boat trips, real Dominican households, Rio Frio, marble mines and much more. What I would do better next time - I would avoid the east part of DR (Punta Cana, Boca Chica, La Romana, Santo Domingo etc) and hit directly to Samana.

Las Galeras can be a base camp for visiting a lot a wonderful beaches located near the place, like Fronton and Playa Madama, the ones we visited. As we didn't have more time, we couldn't visit other beaches that exist between Las Galeras and Playa Rincon. I recommend going there with enough time to explore. Do not Miss Restaurant El Cabito, where Tomeu will be able to enchant you with wonderful conversation and better food!

Due to the COVID -19 virus majority of shops and bars remained closed. Although the Dominican Republic has opened up for tourism this area financially appears to have been hit hard economically. Having been in this area many times before it was a shame to see the the situation for the local population who rely heavily on the tourist industry. Our stay was short but thoroughly enjoyable. getting to Las Galeras is fairly straight forward though entail a long car journey from the Capital. The roads are mainly good though if you have not driven in the DR before then it can be a bit daunting if you hire a car. Rules of the road don't really exist to an extent so be careful. There are plenty of sites to see some fabulous beaches and Rios, Sea fishing, horse back riding ATV tours, Zip lines and many other outdoor activities are available. Wherever possible i would advise shopping around for the best deal, if not a Spanish speaker get to know a local and tap into them for information they are more than willing to help for the cost of a few peso's

This is what the Caribbean probably looked like 40 years ago! Amazing nature, cocoa plantations, not so easy to get to beaches, get an RAV4 or similar, this will spare you the aggravation of not being able to get down a muddy road to an off the charts beach!!! Pan de Coco available by the side of the road, for the uninitiated, thats a flat round bread made with coconut water, instead of regular water...Superb snack, breakfast whatever...Drive, explore, hike, get out and see the place, you will not be disappointed.
This stay is a great location in Las Galeras - a beautiful walk to Playita (beach) and a nice distance walk into town (also peaceful and pleasant).
It’s a very relaxing location, pool and with kind staff.
Meals at Villa Serena nearby are a nice option for a view or if you desire additional diet options.
The host is easily reachable and welcoming, fluent in various languages.
Some Spanish or French is helpful in this area though you can get by without being practiced.
I stayed here and in the area for nearly 3 weeks solo with no problems.
This is a private house that has a few extra rooms. It's 1.5km away from the center of Las Galeras, so if you don't mind walking and are looking for peace and quiet, do come here.
I had a room to myself and bathroom as well. Bath towel and shower gel is provided.
They have a lovely dog that can walk with you to the supermarket when he feels like it ahah.
Kitchen is well equipped.
Bed was very comfortable.
José can take you to the nearest beaches on his motorbike for an extra cost and pick you up at the end of the day.
As I told staff upon checkout, I've traveled extensively and stayed in many wonderful hotels around the world, but this one is at the top of the list. It is in an unbeatably beautiful location, the facilities are charming and clean, the food is consistently wonderful, and the staff is 100 percent warm and friendly. I cannot wait for my next visit. We had torrential rains during my stay which impacted the property, but the staff dealt with it all in the most professional and easygoing nature possible.
Clean, quiet, very lovely garden, very central but beautiful and calm. Great if you go diving, "las galeras divers" is just 2 minutes away. Nice walk to the beach with bars, restaurants, boat outlets (for diving, boat-taxi), just about 4 minutes away. Nice walk to the beach at the back side of the hotel, lovely flowers and trees, a few meters further untouched coastal rainforest. Huge beach area for jogging, shadowy in the morning. Other very wonderful beaches are not fare away.
One of the best stays I had in recent years!
+ Location right next to the ocean and very quiet during the day and the night
+ Super friendly host from Germany, had some nice talks and he was always helpful (one day I stepped on a sea urchin and he helped me to remove it)
+ Comfortable bed and room with AC
+ Super tasty breakfast with so much food that I never needed lunch
Hopefully I'll make it back to Las Galeras and Casa Azul in the near future!
The hotel is clean, safe and quiet: you can only hear crickets, birds and waves! If you are looking for a relaxing hideaway you don't have to look any further...a tropical heaven: the ocean and bay views are unique and incomparable, you can spend hours looking at the sea and the landscape without ever getting tired. The room was spacious, confortable, clean and well equipped. I wish I had stayed more, I will definitely return.
The hostess is amazing: thoughtful, understanding, and very friendly. I really felt like at home. The hospitality was just beyond words.
We had a light room with big windows and a lot of natural light. It's a spacious room so really comfortable even if you're staying with someone.
The vibe of the hotel is really chilled. You can enjoy a delicious breakfast, listen to relaxing musing, and converse with the hosts.
Steps from the beach, and few minutes walking from town and al the restaurants. Small boutique hotel with only 8 rooms. Every room has beach front balcony. There are chairs on the beach and fully stocked hotel bar to service you while you are in the beach. Stuff was very friendly. I would definitely recommend this place
Very helpful French hosts. Room was very clean, had lots of storage options and was quite new. 15 minutes by foot to both beaches in Las Galeras. Breakfast was nice (not included). The hotel is in a very quiet area.
The fit and finish was of the best quality in the four hotels that we stayed in the DR so far. Everything worked well. The management and staff were excellent and were very accommodating of our needs.
