Take a guided tour through the colonial attractions, you will enjoy the history of the place much more. The fortress did have a nice interactive tour, also the Museo de las Casas Reales had a lot of information posted.
The food and shops in the Zona Colonial were more expensive than we really expected. But the Tourism Police have a constant presence and the whole area felt very safe. The staff at the hotel warned us about straying from the area though, so it is important to know where you are and what you plan on doing.
The Duarte wax museum was a pleasant surprise, and you should get to know the history of the Dominican Republic as it is fascinating. Even though they received independence from Spain in 1821, it wasn't really until 1965 that a truly independent democracy was established.

walking through ciudad colonial is a must..choosing where to eat is really hard..food quality is very low..i have tried a lot of different restaurants but was never 100% happy with the food...i wish the Indian restaurant had been open as i am sure it would have been delicious..the weather is too hot and humid to walk very far so it is a matter of continuously taking uber taxis.even so, i can never do all the things i want and its the 4th time i go there

it isn't the first time I visit but it is the first time i have used uber and it is a game changer..i mean in a hot humid chaotic city, even a person who loves walking like myself has to give it up...the only places you can easily walk around in , are shopping malls (the best is Agora mall) and the ciudad colonial. i have been told it is not safe at night but tbh i havent had any problem but cant guarantee it could be safe for everyone..
everyone is at Malecon , sea promenade, after 6pm, jogging, relaxing and eating..mind you, the water is extremely contaminated and smelly..nevertheless this city has got something special which makes u like it...and most people are friendly.. i dined at Layali arabic restaurant it was amazing with beautiful decor..and tasty food..$$..also dined on the top floor of agora mall..plenty of food stalls..i had chicken teryaki with rice $..if you avoid all tourist traps and buy your presents in the not so known shops and eat in the not so touristy spots, you will save a lot..pls some street vendors are extremely poor and even if you dont wana buy anything, a small change will make them happy..i always keep 100 pesos notes in my purse..around a dollar. dont forget to visit boca chica, a natural swimming pool where the water is crystal clear..weekdays best..weekend too crowded..only approx 20 min by bus

Great place to visit if you want to dance salsa or bachata.
Great place to visit if you want to dance salsa or bachata. You can attend a good dance lessons there. The city center (Colonial Zone) is pretty small and mildly interesting, you can see the most interesting places in few hours. Use uber/bolt to travel through the city.

Best of Santo Domingo: The Gastronomy.
Best of Santo Domingo: The Gastronomy. So many amazing restaurants like Buche Perico, and Loretta Cafe Bistro.
Not great in Santo Domingo: All the Museums in Zona Colonial were closed due to renovations. ( At the same time!)
We stayed in Las Mirabal Hermanas suite.l It's an amazing place. Lots of heart put in and well thought amenities, decor, guides, etc in the entire Casa.. It's a very high standard, above Dominican Republic. Breakfast was really nice too.
The place It's with lots of colour, truly amazing!
Received very good sightseeing tips from the owner with the highlight of the cable car journey. Also received some free cerveza.
Swimming pool which is well lighten at night. Whole place is really good.
Central location in quiet neighbourhood!
10 min drive to Zona Colonial and all major malls makes it just perfect.
The entire staff is super professional, welcoming and accommodates all your needs and request!
There is a decent breakfast, super handy in the morning before to explore town.
I travel a lot and have to admit, for a budget hotel, this establishment performs way better than many mid and upscale hotels in Santo Domingo!
Fantastic hotel located perfectly in the main colonial area of Santo Domingo. Staff were really wonderful and went above and beyond during our stay, helping arrange tours, transportation, printing travel docs, etc... The hotel is really a great bargain in my opinion for the location, room quality and hotel service you receive. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling into Santo Domingo.
Nice hotel in a charming old colonial house within the historic district of Santo Domingo. Fantastic location! Room was basic, but good value for money. The Haitian staff spoke excellent French in addition to Spanish, were helpful and friendly, and helped arrange onward transport. Simple but tasty breakfasts of cheese+ham omelets.
Everything. The food, the decor of the hotel, the location, the staff are very helpful. My husband loves zona colonial so I thought this would be the perfect spot. To stay in the colonia zone, this will be the to go to hotel. Now… I didn’t know there’s another one in las Terrenas. I want to visit that one also.
Stylish, bohemian chic hotel well-located in the historic center of the Santo Domingo. The staff and owners were friendly, helpful and welcoming. One of the best breakfasts that I have ever had. Comfortable bed and beautiful interior garden. We really enjoyed our stay!
Great little hotel in the centre of Santo Domingo. Very clean, the breakfast was basic, but decent. Its central location is unbeatable. Only the size of the room is a bit claustrophobic, but it is good for a night. No windows as way, but the building is beautifil.
A regular hotel when in Santo Domingo. Great location. Access to kitchen and coffee on tap. Friendly and accommodating staff. Free wi-if, works well enough to stream a movie in your hotel room. Quiet neighborhood with access to restaurants, malecon, colmados.
I would rate this hotel 4.5 stars, a very nice property in very old reconstructed historic buildings. Well located in the Zona Colonial of Santo Domingo it's close to most all that a visitor would want to see. The staff is very accommodating and helpful.
The staff was great, the guys at the front desk ere very helpful, professional and friendly. The hotel is close to the main places in Santo Domingo and for me it was the best option as the place that I was going the next day was close it time wise.
the staff specially Juan is an amazing host and the housekeeper lady is very nice too( better than any fancy hotel workers) ! the location is the best in the colonial zone . room size was very big and clean 👌. it feels safe too!
The property is in a great location in the Colonial Zone. It is very easy to walk around and explore, along with access to bars & restaurants. The staff was wonderful. It was also a very nicely designed hotel in the common areas.
Embassy Suites is our favorite hotel in Santo Domingo, excellent location, beautiful facilities, easy to park, many restaurants near by and great acomodations with an excellent view of the city.
The bed was one of the most comfortable ones I’ve already slept in. Staff were amazing, ready to help and to give tips. Hotel is gorgeous, a little museum in the middle of the zona colonial.
