FAQs about hotels in Salamanca

An Ancient University Town with Fascinating Culture

In the southwest corner of Castile and Leon, the Spanish city of Salamanca is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old City is one of the most beautiful Renaissance cities in Europe.

Right next to the Portuguese border, Salamanca has unique architecture including Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. The Old Cathedral dates from the 12th-13th centuries and is joined together with the 16th-century New Cathedral.

One of the most charming squares in Spain, Plaza Mayor is the heart of Salamanca and an excellent example of Baroque architecture. Take a stroll among the sidewalk cafes, cool off with some ice cream or relax in one of the picturesque restaurants.

Founded by King Alfonso IX in 1218, the University of Salamanca has more than 3,500 international students and teachers. Known for its Spanish courses for non-native speakers, the university houses a huge library with more than 150,000 invaluable volumes.

Booking.com has a great variety of hotels, guesthouses, hostels and apartments to choose from. Salamanca Airport is 9 miles away from the city and is easily accessible by public transportation.

I compare Salamanca to Oxford steeped in history very afluent beatiful. The culture is centered around the student population with dozens of bars and restaurants. ( not rowdy). Architecture is magnificent so much to see 1 day is not enough. It is more expensive than anywhere else I have visited in Spain.

    Great architecture and friendly atmosphere.

Great architecture and friendly atmosphere. Plenty of bars and restaurants. It would have been very helpful if menus could have been in English for us as many times we didn’t buy because we didn’t know what we were ordering and the translate app wasn’t good enough at times. Made food ordering laborious and way to difficult at times.

Salamanca is a lovely city and definitely worth a visit. We stayed 3 night and were able to see everything we wanted without rushing. It is a walkable city. We came by train and left by bus. We used the local bus only once, and that was to get to our apartment. We were there during Easter weekend, so reservations are important. Great restaurants and food.

A modern yet characterful hotel in an ideal location for visitors to the beautiful Salamanca. The rooms were excellent and very clean. Breakfast was extensive and well presented. Underground, safe and secure, motorcycle parking. The staff, domestic, catering and reception were all very friendly and happy which makes the hotel a welcoming place. I'd single out Paula on reception who had a welcoming happy smile for all guests. As always, the staff demeanour can elevate the experience for a hotel guest. Unreservedly recommended.

There was no receptionist but the staff were so friendly and flexible with our breakfast arrangements it was a pleasure to be there. The hotel is full of charm and very quirky, also as a wheelchair user it had one of the best disabled showers ever and was beautifully designed. Salamanca is a spectacular city worth spending time in, even during freezing February, as we did. The Puerta de la Catedral is wonderfully situated in the old town, facing the cathedral. It is very handy to break our journey when travelling through Spain - easy to get to from the motorway. Usually on street parking nearby, petrol station over the road to refuel before setting off again. And a short walk to the Roman bridge and the city for exploring and finding somewhere to eat. We had a lovely view from the balcony.
