location and parking
Friendly and informative staff
The bed was extremely comfortable Health Suite was very good and very clean
seemed very short staffed and guests left waiting to check in and out as person was very busy. Doors to stable block accommodation were very noisy
The room was lovely , very comfortable , quiet, relaxing. The leisure facilities are excellent, the pool is great , and the bar is also very homely.
Only place left to book due to the Great North run and very pleased with our stay. Our shower wasn't working correctly on arrival and the staff soon relocated us to a suite without any question. Good food aswell.
The most comfortable beds that you could ever wish to sleep in. A really nice interesting hotel with lots of history and character, really friendly helpful staff and excellent food. I would definitely stay here again.
Could not get the wifi to work in our room only in the main hotel building.
The historical building. The bedroom was quiet, comfy and attractive. Bathroom good Most staff very helpful When complained about ice cream they did replace it with another flavour.
Restaurant food was below average. Duck was very tough and not a nice flavour. Dessert not nice and ice cream crunchy ice not creamy. Wouldn't recommend the restaurant.
Evening meal was great and staff very friendly. Loved the Stable Bar - tiny on-site pub. Lots of parking space.
Breakfast was very poor - no butter, stale croissants, something masquerading as rice krispies. Such a shame - really let the hotel down. Had to sweep room for wood spiders - yeuk.
Good leisure facilities both in terms of gym and pool areas. Great character building with lot's of history. Good price.
My room in the stables (No 27) was need of a little updating, finish isn't too good.
Loved the oldie worldie lay out of the hotel. The rooms were lovely and spacious. Lovely wedding venue.
Man on reception was arrogant and obnoxious. Not very helpfull at all in booking us into our room even though we were the first party to arrive. He ignored our request to tell us when our room was ready and purposely booked other people in before us.
historical building all but one member of staff attentive should have brought swimming costume - like the idea of a swim! lovely beds but dirty tissue behind pillows.
sausage with rigor mortis served with fried egg with solid yolk. had to hunt for a staff member to take breakfast order, he was daydreaming behind the kitchen door and covered in tatoos.
Not much to like. This could be a great hotel but it misses on so many counts. We didn't bother to stay for breakfast.
A wedding disco which went on until 12.45am allowed us little sleep. The stable bar had a music video on too loudly. The bedroom was dark and the bathroom lighting too poor to shave or put on make-up, plus the water was tepid.
Good value excellent room with a 4 poster bed. The bar area was very well staffed and great to watch the England Game. The hotel occasionally looks a bit worn around the edges but given the age of the hotel this is only to be expected.
Thomas More Suite - I wasn't overly impressed that a suite of the hotel could be named after a man who burnt people at the state merely for reading the bible in their native tongue.
Good leisure facilities and cheap bar for a hotel.
Decor needs refreshed
I'm a manager in a customer service industry&thought the staff at M.H were great-very friendly to both my young son&I. I loved the character if the hotel mixed with modern details. Our room was very nice, spacious and modern. We made the most of the swimming pool&hot tub. I hope to return again! Loved it!
There were a couple of maintenance issues but when I raised them they were positively accepted. The bathroom(the tiles around the shower area) in our room would benefit from mould&mildew spray-little things-easy to address-make all the difference-but was a minor issue because was happy with the room. Think the spa/changing room areas need more regular cleaning attention although generally fine there is room for improvement (eg lots of hairs on floors &in shower units). Nevertheless, it wouldn't prevent me from visiting again.
ROOM SMELLING MISTY. AFTER A FULL DAYS WORK A HOT SHOWER SOOTHES THE BLUES AWAY, BUT THE SHOWER WAS COLD. AFTER COMPLYING THE NEXT MORNING IT WAS SAME.
Staff serving breakfast, very helpfull. Very comfortable bed.
Angela (would only give one of our party an early check in despite the hotel not that busy) James (Not very bright, should perhaps consider a career outside the pulic sector where he does not require any social skills) Breakfast (Not the best quality)
The staff were helpful and informative. Rooms spotlessly clean and comfortable. Food was very nice, good portions and presented well. Good location for exploring the surrounding area.
My husband opened the window and cut his finger on broken glass, the electrics didn't work, we had no main light and the landing light was also off, my husband had just had surgery the day before so I booked us in for some r and r away from the children. The food was over priced, I had king prawn starter which was actually just normal prawns, gave it back to the staff who said they had made a mistake, tear and share bread was Melba toast :/, we had no TV in the room, staff went to fix it and never came back, no lighting from car park to hotel, very dangerous as husband tripped. We did receive a discount next morning, could not wait to leave it was a nightmare
Excellent value for money Staff very helpful going out of their way to make us welcome. Facilities spa so relaxing Food excellent would stay again at this hotel
Staff were lovely couldnt do enough gor me, bedroom was beautiful, cosy and clean. Food delicious, a really great night in the little bar. Its my 2nd time in 5 months will be returning. Thank you
Loved it all
the bedroom and bathroom were clean and comfortable
the main building could do with a major redecoration in all public spaces
Waiters in function and at breakfast were pleasant
Upon arrival told couldn't book in till 3pm. Had previously advised arriving early afternoon for wedding. Our room was in fact ready but not given key ;we later read in hotel book that it is 2 not 3pm Chair leg in room broke -unsafe. Top missing off sink tap. Several hairs on tiles/surfaces in bathroom. Mould in corner of bath/shower screen. Bed really hard and uncomfortable.
Big room for 60 quid lots of space and classic furniture. Good service from friendly staff.
Bit musty in the room at first but that's just nit picking. Enjoyed the bar and breakfast.
Beforehand the staff dealt with a special request efficiently. Whilst we stayed at the hotel, they were all attentive and helpful.
