We liked the friendliness and at home feel. I loved the free use of pool and sauna.
The room needed a good hoover
breakfast was very good, plenty of choice . good sized room well furnished, staff very helpful. plenty of car parking spaces
stairs were to steep
Loved the character and the original features. Room was warm and comfortable and the staff were welcoming and friendly. Oh, and the food was fabulous. (Had evening meal and breakfast).
Pool and spa shut for refurbishment
Great room, price unbelievable! Everything was excellent. Lovely lounges to relax in at night or in the morning. nice atmosphere with fire and music. Good location, quiet but near all the shops
Wifi is only in lounge, not in room, but it definitely gets people out the rooms!
Really good experience at a historic building, really sympathetically updated to provide modern facilities, only downside was the wet side leisure facilities being upgraded, but it's great to see the continuing investment
No Wi-Fi code in the room
Difficult to alter heating in room. It was a bit chilly
Made to feel very welcome, very comfy bed and great bathroom ! shower and bath !
No wifi in the bedroom only in communal area.
Our 1st spa experience was lovley ,the girls who gave my husband and myself our treatments were lovely and very professional, when we explained that we had forgotten our swimwear they told us the nearest shops to buy them which we got In the sale (bonus) and we Loved our chilled swim and the whole experience. The rest of the staff we're very professional aswell. Our meal which came as part of our package was beautiful and my husband is still raving about the crispy chicken. (Mmmmm)
Although are spa experience was lovley, things changed in both bar's, although the 1st experience didnt involve us we watches a lady wait 35 minutes for her drinks order after returning twice to ask were they were and also a gentleman not wanting to ring the bell for service because he knew he would wait a while for an answer !!! Also the stable bar had a very helpful barman when he was there ! As he kept going to the main hotel for different reasons and was kept there for a good while doin jobs leaving the bar unattended , at one point leaving 5 couples Without drinks and alone in an unattended bar !!!for at least 15 minutes, Really unbelievable in this day and age
historical, warm and welcoming, open fires(gas) in communal rooms, friendly staff, very quite in rooms even when very full, good accommodation for a relaxing night, would have liked to stay longer to enjoy the spa
Bathroom was nice, bed was comfy
Bring bottled water! Tap water tastes funny and made us ill. Desperately needs floorboard renovation and windows, did not sleep a wink the second night due to the noise of the wind and trees being loud bashing on the windows, sounded like children were running around outside our door and knocking on it all night it was so bad, heard every movement the people above us made, very loudly! Out dated decor and carpet, floors just looked dirty. Windows were mouldy. Loose bathroom tiles. Paid for a deluxe room that was not deluxe! Bed frame was shabby.
The fish on the evening meal was gorgeous the facilities were closed hence the low mark for them
WiFi is only in selected places linked up on one table moved 3 feet and then lost signal
My room was massive and even had its own dining room! The hotel itself was almost like a museum, with its wealth of interesting features.
The floorboards in my room were unbelievably squeaky and the free wifi didn't seem to work.
Great leisure facilities, restaurant food is very good! The staff are great, very accommodating! Gorgeous room, I would recommend room 6!
Lovely old hotel, loved the historic features. Food was really nice and spa and pool area was great. Staff really helpfull and friendly.
A bit cold and draughty throughout. Could do with a bit more attention to cleaning in the bathrooms, a bit mouldy in the corners on the shower.
everything, especially the reduced price!!
no dislikes at all.
Pretty well everything, but especially the character of the hotel and its history. It's very nicely located, too, and easy to find from the A1. Breakfast was lovely.
Only a small suggestion: the external lights didn't work and it was a fairly treacherous creep round the building from the rear car park. Better night-time signage within the grounds would also help.
Clean rooms Friendly staff
huge room, well furnished, v comfortable bed, well cooked breakfast, natives friendly, fantastic value
shower scalding hot and v hard to adjust
Cosy lounge and big fireplace to sit and have a drink.Stables bar also very cosy.Courtyard bedroom small but comfortable.
No shower cap in bathroom
Check in was quick & efficient. Service in restaurant in the evening was good. Great size room, very clean and comfortable.
The twin beds were too close to each other. Breakfast was a bit of a shambles.
Warm rooms comfortable beds
Arrived early but was not allowed to book in till 3 pm. We were dismissed and told to come back later. Consequently every one wanting to book in together and top it off there was a wedding party also wanting to book in .
The spa, the quaint furnishing and decor, exploring all the little public rooms, the lounge and its huge fire place. A lovely helpful staff!
The history of artex patterns on many of the walls, the dark paint colour in the pool area. The visible tattoos on some members of the staff.
Overall very good
Long wait at breakfast
Poor internet connection in the rooms
Friendly staff, lovely spa, huge bedroom, massive bathroom. Lovely crisp white bedding. Handy for shopping in a little retail park nearby. Will certainly go back
Bed creaked everytime i moved or turned over. Reception said they will get maintainance to have a look.. Had my nails done on tuesday, was told they wont chip or anything for at least 2 weeks. Just had a look at them and thumb is chipped. wont be showing them off now.
