I lived in Carlisle in 2015 and left my heart there, so I think I may take sides here, but I like that it is small, you can go by the riverside, lots of parks to visit, it was cleaner 10 years ago, but I don't complain, always better than where I live now, in the Midlands. The hospital has a new endoscopy building (I'm endoscopy nurse, so I like this). I noticed all the places I use to eat in are still there. I love the little train station, the Cathedral and the Castle. The surroundings of the Cathedral are amazing, they built this cafe, it was full when we walked by, you can find tranquillity and meet your spirituality. From Carlisle you can go to the seaside in 40 minutes, to New Castle in an hour, to the lake district (I love Keswick) in 50 minutes or less.

a fascinating place to explore - so many little alleyways and shops tucked away that it was a pleasure to wander around and find little gems of shops, cafes, parks, and above all the amazing variety of architecture.

The city centre looked lovely, we didn't have time to explore and obviously there is work going on right now to improve the centre too. Looked to be some great shops and cafes/restaurants/bars. Would have loved to visit the cathedral, we just walked round the outside and also the castle and museum. There were some great parks and bike tracks for children and great places for exercising dogs. We would love to come back and spend more time here

Castle and Tully museum are worth a visit, and for kids and maybe adults also, a visit to Walby Farm and the Fusion centre are worth a visit, but once thats done, theres not a lot else. Carlisle isn't a place I would revisit though, just doesn't have any charm, locals are very friendly though

We always stay at the Crown & Mitre when visiting Carlisle. The staff are very helpful and welcoming, the room was recently refurbished, the wifi is good, the bed is comfy, the hot water plentiful, and the full English Breakfast really sets you up for a day of exploring Cumbria. The hotel is right on the Carlisle square and offers free parking which is perfect.

A nice hotel in a great location for train travel. The sort of purpose built hotel from a grand era in Carlisle’s history that it’s getting harder to find. Check-in late at night with the really kind receptionist was easy and a pleasure. The tea tray was very good and very welcome. The room had all I needed and was excellent value.

We felt as if we had sufficient space. Most hotels in UK are somewhat cramped especially with two suitcases, plus bags. Often very little in the way of shelving which is important for elders who need to see their belongings. Carlisle hotel was of sufficient size for our requirements. Not much in the way of food available nearby.
