Everything was great except breakfast. In small print on the menu it stated that breakfast was rationed to one particular type of breakfast, for example, you could have a continental breakfast alone or you could have a full English breakfast alone or you could have a vegetarian breakfast alone. You could not mix and match. This meant I could only have a full English breakfast but could not have any croissant, could not have any cerial, could not have any yogurt. Furthermore the Toast arrived after I had received my full breakfast, not with the pot of tea and there was no jam or marmalade offered with it just very hard butter from the fridge. Having said all that, the hotel was excellent, the bedroom was excellent and apart from breakfast, the whole experience was excellent. We will definitely go back there again despite the breakfast problem.

A very warm welcome for us and our 2 dogs and a nice spacious room. Breakfast was fairly basic but good enough. We had dinner the first night which was okay. The best thing we ate all stay was the homemade Bakewell tart which was excellent.

The suite was large, bright and clean and in a great location. The bed was very large and although it was in the centre, it was lovely and quiet, the bathroom was clean and had an amazing bath, as well as a shower.

Great all round experience at this upmarket/boutique hotel/restaurant/pub in the heart of the Peak District. Although the staff all seem very young they all knew exactly what they were doing so check in and dinner were all handled in a warm friendly and professional manner. We were in one of the new rooms which was very well appointed and had a huge en-suite plus a fresh mini bottle of milk in the fridge which was a nice touch. We were also given a complimentary drink each which could be taken at the bar or even at dinner, whenever you wanted. The food was decent but not perfect (my triple cooked chips were sadly soggy) but it was a bank holiday weekend which is often not the best time to judge a kitchen. On the whole the menu and food were very good plus a nice wine and cocktails list.
Lastly you get a dedicated parking space with your name on it in the small hotel car park, another nice touch.
Nice base for walking. Quiet and picturesque. Padley Gorge is really beautiful but gets very busy on a nice day.
The Maynard Hotel is excellent with a lovely garden ( dog friendly ) and good food .

Grindleford is a lovely place.
Grindleford is a lovely place. There are some nice walks hereabouts and the railway station (Grindleford) is across the road - and down the drive - with links to Hathersage, Hope and Edale in one direction and to Sheffield in the other.

It is a good location for exploring north Derbyshire but a car is essential to get to interesting locations quickly.
The actual village of Grindleford only consists of a few houses along the main road.
Our hiking days are in the past so we restricted ourselves to Buxton,, Bakewell, Chatsworth and the villages from Hathesage along to Castleton and also Eyam.
Try to choose a long hot, dry summer for this hilly area!

Really lovely location, with very helpful staff. We ate in the bar area next to a lovely log fire, the food from the dinner menu was amazing, as was the breakfast - incredible breakfast considering it was included in the price. We were also welcomed by a surprise bottle of prosecco in our room when we arrived which was a really great touch. The hotel is very dog friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. Will definitely stay again and recommend to friends and family.
We liked the management of the booking, the quality and qualities of the staff (friendliness, enthusiasm, positivity, professionalism, courtesy). The room was supreme, with a lovely view over Grindleford and beyond, and the breakfast tasted as wonderful as any breakfast I've ever had. Someone has done a superb job of re-launching this excellent Peak District destination. Thank you so much one and all for a lovely stay.
We loved the hotel! Our room was very comfortable, nice, large windows. We had everything we needed : coffee machine, tea, thick and soft towels... the radio next to the bed was on with a little jazz music. Breakfast was excellent with very good quality and fresh products. The staff was wonderful. We loved the paintings on the walls in the corridors, wall-to-wall carpet. We will definitely come back!
Super helpful staff, very welcoming and accommodating. Breakfast was really good, nice to be able to choose from an a la carte menu and dinner was excellent (as well as being pretty reasonable). Good location, easy to park at the hotel and even though there was a big wedding on the night we stayed the staff were still very considerate despite being pretty busy.
I'll list the positives:
The location is amazing.
The staff are friendly and hardworking and are a credit to the hotel.
The rooms are clean, comfortable, and extremely spacious.
Breakfast was great, freshly cooked, great quality, and loads to choose from.
We had an evening meal, a good varied menu and the food was fantastic. We highly recommend the Cassoulet.
The location is excellent especially for walking, biking and climbing. The breakfast was very good with a great choice - perfect scrambled eggs!! The hotel is a little faded but perfectly acceptable. There is plenty of parking. The staff were lovely and very helpful.
