FAQs about hotels in Piraeus

A Shiny Port with Fascinating Naval History

Designed by the ancient architect Ippodamos of Miletus during the 451 BC, the nautical city of Piraeus is home to the largest Greek port. Situated on the coast of the Saronic Gulf, in the region of Attica, this beautiful destination occupies a strategic location with rich history and great naval power.

Plan your getaway to the Greek islands and get a ferry from Piraeus Port to Crete, Rhodes, Paros, Naxos, Santorini and Mykonos. Visit the upscale area of Pasalimani (or Zea) and relax in one of the charming seaside cafes and restaurants or just admire the impressive yachts and traditional fishing boats in the elegant Mikrolimano.

Set on Kastella hill, the stunning open-air Veakeio Theatre offers breathtaking views over the Saronic Gulf and interesting art activities during the summer months. Located in the region of Faliro, the imposing Peace and Friendship Stadium and the football stadium of Karaiskakis are only 4 km from the city centre.

The electric railway terminus of Piraeus station connects Piraeus with major areas of the city of Athens like Monastiraki and Kifissia. Booking.com will help you choose from a variety of hotels in the city of Piraeus and the Greek islands.

Piraeus is a work-a-day town with nothing special to see.

Piraeus is a work-a-day town with nothing special to see. The main reason people stay here is to take the ferry or a cruise ship. We stayed at the Glaros Hotel, which is a basic accommodation that I would not stay at again. I recommend staying in Athens or another local town.

We enjoyed our stay in an apartment in Piraeus not far from the port entrance. The port is a very busy and very big area, it took us a while to find our way round as there are very few directional signs in English. It makes it hard to find things initially. We had to ask directions a lot and some locals treated us poorly with eye rolling, etc. while they explained directions to us like we were children. Once you get it worked out though it is a great way to do a bit of island hoping. We went on day trips to Paros, Hydra and Aegina. Loved them all. Hospitality staff in restaurants and cafes in Piraeus were great, very friendly and helpful. Great service everywhere we went. The area is not very attractive though as it is a working waterfront and as with everywhere in Greece there is so much graffiti. So sad that a city with such incredible history is so badly defaced. Overall it was a great stay though.

A bustling harbour and marina area of downtown Athens.

A bustling harbour and marina area of downtown Athens. We loved it as being near the Zea Marina meant lots of nightlife and amazing super yachts etc. It had a good family feel with people out and about safely having fun till quite late. You could access public transport to get into Athens centre easily and I would say this is a good a place to stay if not better due to ability to swim and see some quieter parts beyond the central tourist areas. It also meant accessing trips to the Islands was easy as they mainly left from the marinas, and if you wanted a ferry or cruise these were also nearly at the port the other side of the peninsula.

Great location to Piraeus Port, in a nice location in Athens. It’s a modern, new hotel and the staff are lovely. Maria was extremely helpful and kind with our arrival from the port when the driver wasn’t available to pick us up providing us with a lovely bottle of wine which was very much appreciated after a long day travelling. She also provided us with great information regarding the metro to the airport which is very easy from the hotel

The hotel is easy to find when you leave the metro station in Piraeus in the night (after a long flight to Athens airport). The hotel proved to have better standard than I expected. There seem to be a man in the reception all night, and almost no traffic noise could be heard in the room (#103). There is also short way from the hotel down to gate E7 in the harbour from where I took the Blue Star ferry next morning.

The hotel is cozy and conveniently located. The metro station is very close, and you can reach the main central Athens attractions directly. It's also very close to the port, within walking distance. There are plenty of cafes/restaurants nearby for a great dinner. Towels are changed every day, and they also provide water. Within a 3-minute walk, there's a large supermarket where you can find everything you need.

Hotel staff were very pleasant. Although there is no parking- the lot across from the hotel was offered for 11 Euros a day- coming and going as desired- which was a plus since parking is challenging in Piraeus, so close to the port. Shops all around- so there really was no need for a car- since the Metro train is right around the corner and will get you to all the sites in Athens, but we had a car.

Achillion Hotel is a reliable accommodation in a great location, not very far from ferries, two metro lines, and the NAT stop of the x96 airport bus. I have booked it several times, knowing that it will be a comfortable place to recover from flights or ferries, at a very reasonable cost. This was the nicest hotel we stayed in during our trip. After staying in three other hotels that were rated over 8+ on Bookingcom (with uncomfortable beds), we stayed at the Hotel Triton on our last evening in Greece. Achillion was a perfect hotel to stay in the night before an early boat to Naxos the following day. Only around 5 or 6 min walk to the port (and less than a 10 min walk from Dimotiko Theatro train station where you get to direct from Athens airport), it was great value for money, very clean and the staff were super-friendly.
