The local area is good for restaurants, vineyards, activities like boat trips and horse riding. There are some interesting historical sites (castle and bronze age settlement) close by. I really wish we could have stayed for longer than a week to see more of the locality. The bus can be a bit hit and miss, but a really cheap way to access the north of the island, Fira and Oia.

Beautiful area. Wonderful restaurants in the village.
Beautiful area. Wonderful restaurants in the village. Loved the Venetian castle which has coffee and food. You must visit the ancient city. The locals over all were very friendly and helpful. Please note-there are a lot of homeless animals. Be prepared for it.

The town itself only 5 minutes walk and has a range of very good restaurants.
Nice quiet town, good bus service to Fira and very reasonable cost of fare.
Would highly recommend Akrotiri as a resort to stay.

Akrotiri is a small place in the southern part of the island of Santorini, from which one can see the caldera and also experience beautiful sunsets. There is a small supermarket and a clothing store as well as restaurants and an art shop there. Also important are the Akrotiri Castle and the proximity to the Red Beach and the archaeological site, which can be reached on foot. There are also horses nearby that you can ride to the beach. Megalochori, a small beautiful village nearby, can be reached by bus to Fira. An ideal place to enjoy the sun in the south and to do tours of the island from there.

This area of Santorini was just perfect for us.
This area of Santorini was just perfect for us. Memorable views, from the caldera to the sunset, Oia & Fira in the distance.
The archeological site and the Lost Atlantis museum are very close for a jump into myth and real history of the island. The best beaches for snorkling are in this southern coast, between Vlichada and the Lighthouse. Many family run restaurants, super markets and amenities are at reach. And the Horst Riding experience with a wild gallop on the eros beacj is roght there .. strongly recommended.

I liked the fact it was close to facilities which l forgot to mention before! Supermarket, restaurants, (loved Porto Bello restaurant), cafes & chemist etc! Also car hire available! All short walk away!
Enjoyed a trip to the ancient archeological site & the museum of The Lost City of Atlantis! Also Red beach & Caldera! Lovely catamaran boat cruise round island with bbq & wine although l ghoughg bit pricey.
I could write a novel about how difficult it was to rebook our trip that was actually supposed to take place in the summer of 2020 but got canceled due to COVID-19. However when we finally made it to Santorini July 2021 I have to say it was worth the wait. Hotel Mathios is a beautiful and clean hotel that I would recommend to everyone. Especially if you want to stay in a quieter area in Santorini. Rooms are nice and spacious, absolutely loved the pool. Hope to visit someday again.
this property is very well maintained, and we loved that it was more secluded than most of the other properties we saw. We felt like we were the only people in Santorini while staying in this hotel. Then when we wanted to explore it’s only a short 15-20 minute ride to most of the popular villages like Fira and Imerovigli, and a little longer to Oia. The private pool on our balancing was amazing, the food and restaurant (The Edge) was amazing, and the service was amazing.
Our stay was just perfect. The location is incredible - right by the sea, with a black sand beach a few steps down from the hotel. The breakfast is absolutely fabulous, the staff is lovely and attentive - felt like paradise. Santorini is also a very busy island - a lot of mass tourism but the location of the hotel is where you escape those crowds - it has more of a local feel and yet Akrotiri ancient city and the red beach are a short walk away. Can’t recommend enough!
We really enjoyed staying at Anya suites during our stay in Santorini ! It is beautiful lcated with a stunning view of the caldera and the famous castle of Akrotiri. The staff are always helpful and frinedly, the rooms are clean and comfortable. We loved to sit at the terrace before the sun heading down to the caldera. The perfect place for someone needs rest and relaxation.
tips :
We highly recommend the catamaran cruise, Dimitris assisted us in reserving it.
This is a lovely little hotel. We stayed for a few hours in transit whilst we waited for our late night flight out of Santorini. Very friendly and helpful staff. Extremely generous and accommodating sorting out our change of booking, when they could have justifiably played "hard ball". Nice little pool area with a lovely outlook, and we had a delicious snack before we left. The best shower we've come across after 4 weeks in the islands.
Everything! Akrotiri is a quiet, cute little town and Santorini View is just outside, maybe an 8-10 minute walk. The bus stop to either Fira or to Akrotiri town and archaeological site is so close to the hotel. Taking the bus was an authentic experience!
The room was large and comfortable, the pool and pool area was relaxing, the view amazing.
I loved the breakfast each morning and the lovely staff were so accommodating and friendly.
our stay was perfect in any point. Very good place to have a wonderful time in santorini.
The room was super clean, large, well decorated and very confortable. The owners are amazing and nice people. They helped us during our stay and they make sure we had everything needed.
The hotel is in the south of the island away from the touristic chaos of Oia and Tira. It is super quiet and pretty.
Best boutique hotel amazing energy, amazing view, very quiet. To me one of top hotel I have stayed in. The rooms are beautifully designed Greek style, the rooms have a private balcony. The pool is gorgeous and quite big. The owners are incredibly sweet. They make the best Greek pancakes. I highly recommend that place, to me top location in Santorini with car away from show off Oia.
We took a family villa with two bedrooms and a terrace which was super nice with beautiful views over the island and Santorini's sunset. We also enjoyed the pool and the super friendly hotel staff who supported us whenever they could. The beach in walking distance below the hotel was fantastic with super nice views during sunset and a nice rand tasty restaurant.
We were there for two weeks and it was amazing, not only santorini itself but also Akrotiri apartments. We were welcomed by our lovely host Dimitra whom made our time there even better and was very accommodating. The apartment was very clean with an amazing view and very well located with fantastic restaurants nearby. We are looking forward to visiting again!
Our host Vans was absolutely incredible! such a helpful guide with great authentic recommendations! Very good value for a “traditional” property. The breakfast was extraordinary/ unlike any higher end hotel we stayed in Santorini and very close to caldera view across the street with direct sea view from property.
Beautiful property in a quiet secluded area with ocean views. Every night we enjoyed the Santorini sunset from our private hot tub! Daily breakfasts were delicious, and the room was clean and comfortable. Martha and the rest of the staff were friendly and very helpful.
Beautiful, beautiful view! The room was nice and spacious, and the owners were lovely! Great breakfast service! Helped us with transportation around the island. Gorgeous pool with a view! If we’re ever back in Santorini, these guys have our business.
Nike who met us at the property was very nice and gave up great tips on restaurants in Santorini, especially the ones the locals dined at and not the touristy ones. I will look to stay again the next time I come to Santorini.
The host was amazing! She brought us numerous home made treats! The view of Santorini was very nice! There is a great deck for watching the sunrise. Easy parking (you need a rental car for this apartment).
The room was beautiful, clean, and very specious.
Please bear in mind that this hotel is very far from Santorini's main villages such as Oia and Fira. Each taxi was around €35 - €45.
Our first visit to Santorini and it did not disappoint! Highly recommend Black Diamond Suites! Kostas and Anna took amazing care of us the entire time we were there!
