As a working port town with a resort attached, there is a wide variety of options for dining, shopping and entertainment. The old town has venetian architecture, the modern town that has grown around it has a wide array of shops and restaurants, and there are lots of beachfront businesses as you head along the seafront. We found that restaurant quality is better a couple of streets in from the front, but there are lots of options in either case.

Less touristy than Chania. Located between Chania and Heraklion, makes it ideal for visiting both as well as archaeological sites etc.

Rethymno has the right mix of old town charm, modern hotels, a beach and a nice promenade. Plenty of places that serve authentic Greek food at very affordable prices, nice shopping opportunities, a pretty good beach - overall, I think Rethymno is better than Heraklion or Chania for a vacation stay.

As with everywhere in Greece, food was phenomenal. I even enjoyed the humorous "hard sell" barker at a dockside Taverna. "Are you hungry? You look hungry! Your hunger is subconscious!" and so forth. We were in the Executive Suite with Sea View-Private Pool and Sauna. Amazing room, for a dicent price! Very good breakfast that was included. A big selection of fresh food. For the guests of the hotel there is a discount for renting umbrellas and chairs at the beach. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Our flight back was later in the day and they let us check out later. We used their taxi service. It was on time and easy to arrange.

The location was great could walk to old port Rethymno. We rented a car and drove all over Crete so being located in the middle was perfect. The staff was nice and sincere and very helpful. The most important feature though was the helpfulness of the owners, who treat everyone graciously and are available for any questions. Their advice was very helpful, and the pastries they made to great us were superb! We would strongly recommend this apartment.
