Plakias has a nice village feel with nice beach's and plenty of tavernas, supermarket's, bakers and butchers, all within easy walking distance. We found the food at Antoni's Place was excellent and staff very helpful.
Plakias is a smallish town and very laid back and relaxing. As we were half board we didn't try many of the bars/restaurants on offer. We were going to go on a boat trip but one of our daughters was ill so we had to abandon that idea. My other daughter and I did visit Kourtaliotiko Gorge and waterfall which was amazing and we made it to Souda beach on the last day which had lovely clear water. We had a car so we could travel around. I personally think that is an essential if you want to explore the area as it takes a while to drive anywhere as the roads are quite small and bendy!
Place has amazing location, but do not expect night life, for that you have to go to Plakias, Damnoni (across the rock, great views) or drive to Rethymnon. Service and meals are great, staff very kind, willing and helpful, always aiming to help, direct, support. Swimming in private pools or in purely clean sea with private beach (no sand, rocky beach, but you can jump from very high cliffs). Hotel also invites oriental dancers, who were just excellent and greek dancers. Someone says - rooms are shubby, but everything is made from solid wood, comfy, only bathrooms a bit small, but sufficient. Place suits to all types of travellers- you want to rest, doing nothing, you can. You want to travel around, you can even go to Santorini by jetboat. We recomment the place definitely.
Plakias is a typical, traditional, laid back Greek resort with a selection of beaches, tavernas and restaurants to meet all requirements. Most beach sun beds are free to use with the proviso of the purchase of a drink from the owner.
Plakias is our favorite place in the south of Crete. Beautiful beaches, great food, relaxing atmosphere. Our favorite restaurant is Taverna Dionisos at Myrthios Village just above Plakias but you can't go wrong at any of the 4 restaurants in that village. They are all good. Our favorite beach is Ammoudaki, which is mainly a nudist beach unless you go on the weekend or between mid-July to mid-August when the beach floods with loud, young, non-nudist Greeks. In the evening a cocktail at cafe-bar Armyriki especially on nights with live unplugged music or a drink at Ostraco bar listening to hits of the last 3 or 4 decades is the best way to finish the night. A visit to Moni Preveli is a must-do too. To explore the beauties of the place you better go there by car. The only downside is that the place is very often, very windy.
Great accommodation, modern design, beautiful sea view, spacious balcony, quiet location near the pedestrian zone, , close to nature - mountains and gorges, close to various beaches nearby, walking distance to grocery and essentials, lots of nice tavernas nearby,
