It's a UNESCO site, so you know with certainty it's very special. I found it spellbinding; it's a place that "has it all!" Never once felt unsafe, even walking through town alone in the wee hours of the morning. Easily and enjoyably very walkable, even from one side of the city to the other (but you need comfortable walking shoes given the cobblestone streets laid in the 1850s). Great restaurants and pubs on every block, too numerous to mention except, perhaps, for the Irish pub called "Snug."

Antigua is a beautiful city with so much to do and so much to see! I walked all over the city at all times of the day and night! I never saw any danger or felt any danger! Antigua is very safe, different than Guatemala city! I did not go and I had no interest in going to Guatemala City. Antigua has everything!

Holy Week, the alfombras and the processions, is unforgettable. A must see. Antigua is carefully curated to maintain the traditional facades. Even the Burger King and Starbucks are in old buildings. No big trucks or buses in the town. Wide variety of good restaurants. Many small hotels and hostels. People open up their homes to sell food or give accommodations. Huge crowds in places, mostly Central Americans. Town is quiet. Tons of tourist junk to buy. The town is on a grid system so it is impossible to get lost.

Antigua is a very beautiful colonial city.
Antigua is a very beautiful colonial city. There are many old cathedrals in various conditions. There are two that are easily accessible and you certainly want to take a look inside. The La Mercede is at one end of the main tourist area and the other is at parque central, in the middle of the town. You can also spend a few hours making your own chocolates and learning about the history of chocolate. It jade is of interest, there are tours of jade factories near the square. At he edge of town, about 15 min on foot, sits an organic vegetable farm that has delicious fresh foods. If the textiles are of interest, don't miss a visit to Nim Pot. Here you will find an amazing collection of textiles for sale from all over Guatemala along with wooden and ceramic items, and of course coffee and chocolate. If you want a taste of local shopping, take a short walk to the local market where you can fin everything you would need for daily life and souvenirs all in one place.

We happened to be there during the Lenten celebrations that take place every Sunday 4 weeks before Easter so we were happy to see the procession. The city was very crowded but it was so interesting to observe all that was going on. The city is nice just to spend time in. It is easy to walk around the central areas and there are many options for eating. As well there are many options for day trips from here.

Exquisitely clean.
Exquisitely clean. A great base location for visiting Guatemala. We made side trips to Lake Atitlan, vulcan Pacaya, and Tikal. Some basic electrical maintenance is needed for the lighting and the hot tub.

All the staff was great, very polite and accommodating.
When I needed the newspaper for my mom to read, they said we don't have it here, but can bring it from Porta Hotel. When my bed was bad that I couldn't sleep for 2 nights, they brought a different one from Porta.
They also kept my mom's eye drops in the fridge and our luggage at the extra office until we came back from lunch after check out.
Thank you! You were all great!!!❤
we did not have breakfast there but we sat in the wonderful garden at other times. The location was perfect, the hotel was super fun, with great art and wonderful staff. Would highly recommend this hotel to any travelrs to Antigua. The owner was fantastic, met us showed us the property and even set up our transportation back to the airport at 230am. It could not have been more perfect.
The hotel is impeccably maintained and staff are wonderful and very accommodating. I arrived early in the morning after a red eye flight and they were so kind to let me check in early! Breakfast was lovely, and the pool was wonderful. Thank you Lara and Sarah for your help with shuttles and the volcano tour, all of the staff there were fantastic! Would highly recommend :)
Awesome place to chill out, the woman and guy that run the place are extremely helpful and nice!
It is a little farther from the center than some of the other places, but it's quiet.. The kitchen is nice and bathrooms are always clean. And most importantly they have curtains on all the beds in the dorm!
The hotel was probably good 10 or 20 years ago. No AC in the room, no refrigerator. Not much things to do except the pool places to sit outside the room. Check in is 3 pm no matter what. The bed is hard and the shower has no pressure. But the staff are super sweet and helpful.
The Casa ELA is all what you want for a relaxing holiday, great rooms, full kitchen, an amazing terrace from which you can see eruptions and a sweet dog by your side, but most importantly the hosts are amazing and make you feel 100% welcome!
Thank you Alvaro and Lupita! :)
The hotel is pretty much as others have commented. The staff were great and the place was clean and had a nice feel to it. The pool and breakfast are not onsite as others have outlined.
The negative I have is the managements selection of volcano tour operator as below
Very nice hotel comfortable clean room . Very nice staff , excellent location and excellent staff, smaller family business kind but met perfectly my expectations, walking distance from all the important landmarks in Antigua.
Located very close to our vulcanotrip touroperator. Room was ready early and we could wash up after our vulcano trip. Good and friendly staff, also with booking for further transportation needs.
Lovely traditional style building in the heart of Antigua Guatemala. Great breakfast, great location, and staff were helpful in storing our bags ahead of check in/after check out.
Atmospheric boutique hotel. Rooms are shabby chic style. Wonderful patio with swimming pool. Breakfast is ok. Good location, Nice rooftop. 5 minutes walking to the main plaza.
