With a dome reminiscent of Brunelleschi’s "The Duomo" in Florence, the Hungarian parliament building is undoubtedly the icon of Budapest. It sits majestically by the Danube, the river that both divides and unifies the 2 parts of this capital city: Buda and Pest.
Overseeing Budapest from its vantage point on Castle Hill is Buda Castle. Spectacularly lit at night, it has the best views across this attractive city steeped in World Heritage. Some unique points of interest are Heroes Square and the Museum of Terror, reminders of the city’s more turbulent past.
Much like in Vienna further up the Danube, coffee and cake is practically an institution in Budapest. And there’s nowhere better to try them than Gerbeaud - the elaborate décor alone makes this café well worth a visit.
To really feel like a local, make a trip to the thermal baths. The relaxed Gellért Baths are a triumph of Art Nouveau grandeur and, based on their sheer size, you can't miss the outdoor Széchenyi Baths. If unusual nightlife is your thing, the club nights at these baths are great fun.

Beautiful architecture, very clean and plenty of eateries, felt very safe. Public transport is very good, no need for a taxi from the airport take the E100 bus, just 40 minutes direct with only 3 stops (but all on the city) with the last stop right in the heart and under £5 / person.

Budapest is a very beautiful city. It is a miniature of Vienna, in my opinion: very elegant, very royal, with massive blocks of buildings all decorated. It is a city with no just one centre but has a multitude of centres. Very tidy city, easy to walk around, good public transport when needed. Some beautiful buildings , although some were in poor condition. We were amazed at the amount of empty large properties (that would have been spectacular in their prime)that appear to be abandoned and left to rot. There are lots of open parkland, river side walks.

We spent a week in Budapest and were satisfied with the amount of time. We are 65+ and trams, buses & metro are now free for anyone our age. That was a fantastic bonus for us and we used the transportation all the time. There is so much to see and do in Budapest and the city is pedestrian friendly. The options for eating out are endless and we found lots of reasonable, delicious meals. There was a lot of things we didn't do that Budapest is famous for and still filled our week with enjoyable wanderings. I highly recommend a visit to Budapest.

Budapest is beautiful and filled with enchanting buildings and structures. Great for those who enjoy walking and taking lovely pictures of historical structures. Best to start early in the morning if prefer to take good pictures as places get crowded with tourists after 10 am. My experience is that Budapest is that car drivers are inpatient (including taxi drivers, zooming in and out of traffic congestion). Service staff in supermarket are not friendly and also inpatient when comes to payment. Lastly, I feel that everything is expensive in Budapest, in comparison to Poland.AdeSingapore

The staff were very enthusiastic and helpful. It is very near to a local Metro (underground) station which is brilliant for exploring either the Buda or the Pest side. The bedroom was surprisingly quiet for a city centre location. Highly recommended!
