This is an elegant hotel from a bygone era, but the facilities and the service are everything you would expect from a modern hotel. My room was large and beautifully furnished, the delicious buffet breakfast is served in a banquet room with fancy furniture and crystal chandeliers. All of that, and the price I paid for the room was so reasonable! I kept sending pictures to my friends and family saying, "Can you believe I'm getting ALL THIS for THIS MUCH money?

Peaceful and very quiet in a hillside setting with a forest above and views of a village and plains below. As a former monastery converted to a hotel, simplicity but everything I needed was done well. As examples, the tiny tiles on the bathroom floor and walls were lined up to match all the grout lines. And the music in the dining room during breakfast was softly playing Gregorian chants. Meals were another high point, both dinner and breakfast: well-thought-out and beautifully presented on porcelain dishes, plus eggs made to your order at breakfast. And throughout the meals, not too much salt in the food--often a problem for me with restaurant food. (Sometimes I mention it to the waiter but here I forgot to and as it happens I did not need to.) Staff was uniformly pleasant and helpful, though speaking Hungarian does definitely help, (I do.)

This hotel is fine for an overnight stay and it is inexpensive. There was nothing special about it though, the rooms are very plain, the furniture very old, the hotel is located a 20mn walk from the nice historic center which is a bit of a hike if you go walking. I booked it because i read good reviews but in retrospect they were misleading.

Most museums were closed and so we had very few options to do. Most shops were also closed. We still enjoyed checking out the historical architecture... the old town was really sweet, lots to admire. Roman remains, Renaissance buildings, Fire Tower, good coffee and good food :)

Sopron is a pleasant relaxed city.
Sopron is a pleasant relaxed city. We appreciated the relative quietness of the place and that we could wander around without bumping into crowds. The old town is charming, and the 'Healing Pit' (Gyógy Gödör) is a great pub/restaurant. The food and drinks are delicious and the service is very good.

I use this hotel every time I am in Sopron on business, average two times a year unless it is fully booked up. It is under new management ( I have used it for 15 years ). The one criticism of the hotel is that checkout is at 10AM whereas most hotels of this standard checkout at 12, and that was the case before the new management took over. Beware!

Nice town close to Austrian border.
Nice town close to Austrian border. The center is very nice, and there are evident signs of a great past (starting from Romans). There is not a lot to see, besides the walk around the walls and some visits to the Tower and the historical landmarks in the Fo Ter. One full day, for the center, is enough in my view.

I can recommend Sopron as the place for various activities.
I can recommend Sopron as the place for various activities.
Historical monuments - the town has nice historical centre with many old houses (in course of renovation), churches and town walls.
Wine and Gastronomy - Go to the Tourist Information Office and ask for the guide: there are very good tips for restaurants with traditional Hungarian cuisine. For wine there are 2 very nice winebars or you can taste the wine in wine cellars.
Nature - the starting point to visit Lake Fertö National Park
SPA - I would recommend the thermal spa in Hegykö (15 minutes by car from Sopron)
This delightful home is conveniently located near a lake and offers easy access. It's nestled in a wonderfully quiet neighborhood. The interior of the house is a unique fusion of European and Asian influences, creating a captivating ambiance. Plus, it's in close proximity to both the Austrian-Hungarian border and the Sopron city center. The owner of the property is very helpful and accommodating.
Most of all: the friendliest staff I ever met! Excellent Hungarian food, and even people with gluten allergy are being taken car of. I liked the spa very much too. Wonderful environment and comfortable rooms for a very reasonable price. Nice, quite hotel, ideal for families and the elderly.
This hotel epitomises good taste in furnishings and general hospitality.
From the moment one enters the Hotel’s court, one senses ‘something good’. The hosts are profoundly welcoming, yet at the same time, totally professional.
A wonderful place to recuperate from daily life.
The suite was spacious and designed in a restrained style befitting the past of the building that was used as a monastery. The corridors and the dining room are very beautiful. The location is very beautiful and it is a special experience to be there.
