Bali’s oldest beach resort retains its reputation as a glamorous alternative to nearby Kuta. The coastline of Sanur has a long stretch of white sand lined with restaurants and bars. It is tailor made for chic clientele or families wanting to relax in an exclusive resort or villa without the need to party into the wee hours.
Sanur is also a popular day trip destination for tourists staying in Kuta looking to do some water sports. There are many companies offering diving along its submerged outer reef, jet skiing on top of its blue waters or paragliding in the cool breezes above this ocean paradise.
The shoreline features a cycle path that is also perfect for walking and jogging. At its very northern tip is the ferry terminal that offers boat trips to Nusa Lembongan, a small island off the southeast coast of Bali that is famous for its laid-back atmosphere.
Sanur has its fair share of markets providing an impressive range of artistic handicrafts such as wood carvings and batik paintings. Best of these are the Sindhu Market and the daytime beachfront market.
Sanur is the closest beach to the island’s capital, Denpasar, with its many temples and museums. Booking.com has a range of hotels along Sanur Beach or close to Ngurah International Airport, also known as Denpasar International Airport.

Unfortunately, our flight from Perth was cancelled so we lost 2 days/nights of our holiday but the trip was perfect besides that. The Hyatt also kindly refunded one night which they were not obliged to do but we thought was a very fair compromise.
Easy to get around usually, but on this trip, the traffic outside of hotel was mental due to the grand opening of the new Bali Icon Shopping Mall just up the street and the hotel road was randomly closed at various times - which was a pain. Avoid Indonesian school holidays - the traffic is 10X worse according to drivers.
We ate a lot in the hotel for convenience - family group of 16 with ages ranging from 2-62 so it worked well for us and everyone was happy. Pool is fantastic and again, ticked everyone's boxes.
We had plenty of spa treatments outside of the hotel, but my favorite hands down was in the hotel spa - outstanding.

We loved how quiet it was here - shop keepers don't hassle you to look in their shops, they're happy for you to wander in if you want to. Food is affordable but not super cheap. Beach is quiet - no annoying sales people or endless jetskis or speed boats. No waves though so you can't surf.

Sanur beach isn’t that nice.
Sanur beach isn’t that nice. Brownish sand and I inviting water. Most of the restaurants along the beach feel a bit like tourist traps and there are lots of stall vendors that sell cheap souvenirs that hassle you as you walk along. Make sure you book a decent resort with a nice pool as you’ll need it to escape to for some peace. Despite it being advertised as the quiet option, I found Sanur chaotic, busy and not charming at all.

I love Sanur and will definitely return plus it's a great base to travel from. There's a 6k walkway which is full of resorts, shops and restaurants offering all types of food and drink options from local cheap eats to more expensive dining. You can hire deckchairs, bikes, get a massage, by a sarong plus it suits families and oldies without the noisy party goers. You can catch ferries from the far end, over to the islands. Also the new ICON shopping mall is opening soon, which I'm not sure is good or bad for the locals. The good thing too, walking along the walkway, is that it's mostly under the shade of beautiful trees and with the sea breeze, it's nice and cool.

Sanur was great. Relaxed, a little quieter than Legian.
Sanur was great. Relaxed, a little quieter than Legian. Lots of restaurants, good shopping and the beaches are much nicer. There is a walking track along the beach for runners, walkers and bike riders. You don't get hassled as much on this side of the island. Will definitely come back.
Huge green territory, amazing spa zone, exceptional gym interior. Loved yoga classes and I was alone registered - so I had private session with trainer.
Great location - beachfront with calm promenade, hotel provides free bikes so you can go anywhere easily.
Cute balinese style and design of facilities.
Wonderful breakfast - during 6 nights stay didn’t had capacity to try all they have to offer.
Loved Pizzeria restaurant in the resort, they make great pizzas and pasta, live music shows in the evenings.
We travelled as two couples and had the two bedroom villa with private pool. It was fantastic -spacious and clean.
Each morning the staff cooked us breakfast (at whatever time we asked for) in our own villa. The breakfast included choices of eggs and bacon with fresh fruits, juice, bread/toast, croissants and tea/coffee * or of the above.
We were a short stroll to shops and restaurants, and just a few minutes walk (through one of the other hotels) to Sanur Beach and LOTS more shops and restaurants.
Location location location! The location of this hotel is perfect because it is within 5 min walks to the Sanur beach with lots of restaurants to choose from. It is also 5 minutes walk to the main street and the famous Massimo Gelato shop.
The location still provides very quiet experience because it is still far enough that you wont be hearing any loud clubbing noise from the beach club.
Parking is great if you are bringing a car.
The Gym equipment was all brand new.
We have been guests here 4 times with the hotel previously being run as The Fairmont.
The staff here (and in Sanur) are just so lovely and caring. We always leave feeling so happy and our only disappointment is we always wish we had spent more time here and less in the pretentios areas like Seminyak and Nusa Dua..
The Balinese are so relieved to have visitors returning so don't delay and book your trip to the Intercontinental Sanur now!
Great location on the beach in Sanur. Stayed in a family room with our 1 & 3 year old and the layout of the room was great with the two bedrooms. The hotel itself is quite old and a bit rundown but it’s a nice traditional place on the beach that was quiet and great value for money. Kids loved the 3 pools and coffee and beers at the restaurant each morning and afternoon were great.
Small boutique hotel located in central Sanur short walk to a huge selection of resturants, shops and the beach. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Great place to relax and laze around the pool, don't expect the facilities offered by the large hotels this is a very small boutique hotel which suited us. Really enjoyed our stay fantastic small hotel.
Staff were friendly and attentive and made our first 2 nights in Bali comfortable.
Grounds of the hotel were in keeping with the setting of Bali.
Pool facilities were very good.
Very reasonably priced.
Ideal stop off for Sanur ferries.
Quiet and away from busier parts but only a short walk to the beach and a nice beachside stroll to restaurants.
Stunning location on the beach at Sanur. My room was near the beach - not with a view - but I felt I was in paradise. The room was large, comfortable and they provide free water in the rooms. Breakfast was delicious. Close to an abundance of great Day Spas and plenty of other food choices for lunches and dinners wandering away from the hotel.
Location is everything, 1 minute walk to main street, in central Sanur, quiet, older Balinese style hotel, clean, huge room & bathroom, air con great, comfy bed, not too hard, 2 big pools, basic but lovely breakfast included, staff friendly & helpful, great price for money, will definitely stay again
The amenities at the hotel are impressive as the hotel has a massive footprint and must have been the place to stay in Sanur back in the day. The proximity to the beach and the Sanur beachfront footpath/bike path is delightful not to mention Luhtu cafe just across the road with the nicest apple pie.
Lovely hotel situated on beach. Beautiful gardens & in great area of Sanur! Has a lovely Balinese feel to it.
We had the deluxe beach rooms upstairs with a balcony and daybed which was great! This was our 4th stay at this hotel and would thoroughly recommend. Lovely pool area too!
The bed was very big and comfortable, but the bed sheet too short to cover the mattress fully; the hotel located right on the beach and along the pedestrian walkway with restaurants, bars and shops; breakfast was good, with ample choice of Asian and international options.
The hotel is 200 metres from Sanur Beach and 100 m from the shopping strip of Jl. Cemara. It's a much better example of Balinese culture than the big international hotels in the area.
Very reasonable rates and delicious breakfast options also contribute to its appeal.
A perfect and decent hotel in center of Sanur with fairly good pricing. Location is perfect for the beach walk with equally long distance to the two roads heading down to the beach. A lot of restaurants around and other hotels for cocktails or even more restaurants.
It was right on the beach, beautiful tropical surroundings, peaceful but near to restaurants, services and shopping. The hotel restaurant had good food, both Indonesian and western. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Loved the pools and their setting.
