Fès is a kaleidoscope of colours, smells and sensations, and its intricate urban design is an allegory of its own identity. Live up to the pace of this ancient Babel, and go the whole hog immerging yourself into its 1001 Nights atmosphere. Check out the Booking.com hotel deals in fascinating Fès and enjoy!
Commonly spelled Fez, this city was Morocco’s capital during Middle Ages. The city was originally composed of two separate settlements located along the banks of the Jawhar River. Madinat Fas was founded in 789 by Idris I, while Al-'Aliya was founded by his son Idris II. Both towns grew autonomously until the Almoravids unified them in 1070 under the name ‘Fas’. The city is still considered a beacon of the Islamic civilisation, due to its ancient ‘madrasas’ Islamic colleges.
The Old Town or ‘medina’ has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, representing one of the best preserved historic centres in the world. The famous ‘riads’ or small traditional hotels are located in the medina, which is also called Fes Al-Bali.
The city can be reached through Fès Saïss Airport, or from the airports in Casablanca and Rabat via railway or bus connection. Whether you’re looking for a luxury hotel in Fez New Town or a historic ‘riad’ in the medina, don’t miss Booking.com’s wide offering!
I travel frequently. Fez, and Morocco in general, is underwhelming. While several day trips are possible, the main attraction in Fez is the Medina. It is interesting to walk through it but after a few hours I had enough. You cannot enter most attractions (Mosques, University) so you're left wandering the Medina. The shops are diverse in terms of merchandise but they are overly aggressive and often rude.

I lived in Fes for five years, so I will be biased.
I lived in Fes for five years, so I will be biased. I love this city and it has a special place in my heart. I learned Arabic here over 20 years ago, I came back some years later and worked as an English teacher and Arabic to English translator, and my recent visit was a visit for the peace of my soul.
If you are going to visit with a family, I would recommend an apartment in the new city (la Ville Nouvelle), especially the two that I stayed in. The old city (the Medina) is not easy to navigate with a stroller and the facilities in the riyads there are not family friendly (unless you are willing to pay top dollar), to say the least. Staying in the Medina means roughing it, so if you're young and single, or a young couple with no children, maybe you can hack it.
For food, I highly recommend Jawhara Cafe next to the American Language Centre (Rue Ahmed Hiba) for breakfast (great harsha, malawi, coffee, tea etc.) and Restaurant Florence on Rue Hassan II for lunch or dinner; they make amazing couscous, tagine, and every great Moroccan dish at great prices.

What an amazing city - filled all the senses .. such warm hospitality, amazing food and history abounds - the artisans and craftsmanship of the local people was astounding - I loved every minute during my stay from the getting lost in the Medina's alley's to exploring the historic city - My tour guide Hassan was magnificent - so spoiled by all his knowledge and ability to read his customers.... We so enjoyed all his recommendations and more importantly - all the knowledge he shared with us - Please make sure you allocate enough time in this beautiful city and enjoy the hidden Roads and their restaurants! The food and spices are simply amazing!

Fez is good just for a day and it’s good to go to chefchouien from there for a day trip. Be careful of the people who take you to the tanneries and local outlets where they overcharge for stuff. The Medina has lots of shops having cheaper stuff of similar quality so better to check in different places before buying. Food is very good everywhere. Taxis are cheap. Place is very safe.

just dont. Morocco has a lot more good cities to spent time.
just dont. Morocco has a lot more good cities to spent time. If you really want to see then 1 day would be plenty but for me even this duration might be too long. In this city you always need to be on your toes or else you are an easy target for people who wants to just squeze money out of you
The Riad Fes Aicha is perfectly situated, just a minute away from Bab Rcif, the entrance to the souks, tanneries etc.
Riad Fes Aicha is beautifully traditional, a little boutique hotel hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the souks nearby.
The rooms were clean and comfortable and tastefully decorated.
Our host was fabulous: helpful and kind, anything we asked for he just made happen.
The traditional breakfast was a piece of art too, delicious and plenty.
We definitely recommend Riad Fes Aicha and we’ll definitely come back.
Dar Essoaoude is a beautiful and authentic riad in the heart of the Medina. Located few steps away from Rcif main square. Fatima is an amazing host, she took care of us in the best way, explained where to go sight seeing. The breakfasts were very big, tasty and offering local tastes. We also ate at the Riad one evening, and the lamb tajine was one of the best we’ve had in Morocco!
I highly recommend this place for a stay in Fès, it is simple, authentic, central and you will get the best welcome !!
Riad Idrissy was my most favourite Riad in my entire trip travelling around Morocco. The Riad is absolutely beautiful. It is beautifully maintained and in a great part of the medina. The staff were wonderful and friendly and made our stay even better. The food at the restaurant was amazing and the cooks were lovely. I would highly recommend this riad and will stay here for a much longer time if I visit Fes again. I absolutely loved the place, and it made our stay in Fes memorable.
Hosts were incredible! We were welcomed by some lovely tea and general advice about sights to see and things to be aware of while in Fes. Organised so many different things for us while we were there and gave us a real glimpse into life in Morocco so that was fantastic to experience! They could not have done more for us while we were there and offered to help in any way that they could. Location is off the Main Street of the Medina so great location! Breakfast was great!
The hospitality of the Fez is unbeatable. Imane was such a great and kind host; she helped us in getting to know Fez and arranged our excursion to Chefchaouen. The room was incredibly spacious and clean. We particularly enjoyed the moroccan mint tea that we could order anytime. The breakfast was also absolutely delicious. Last but not least, we were beyond glad to order our last lunch in Morocco in Dar Fes Medina. It was the best food we’ve ever had in Morocco!
Located in the hustle and bustle of the Fez Medina, you’re right in the middle of the action and get to experience the full Medina lifestyle. Karim is an amazing owner/host, no request is too small or hard for him to help out with, he’ll help out with booking tours and bus tickets and will also give top tips on how to best deal and navigate some of the city’s tourist traps. An amazing stay for the price!
everything was perfect. Our host Namir went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and at home. He even helped us park our car. He gave us tips to stay safe in Fes. The dinner was amazing! Seriously the best Tagine we had during our time in Morocco. He also gave us great advice in buying carpets/handicraft in the Medina. The Dor itself was clean and overall we very much enjoyed our stay with Namir.
Riad Diamant De Fes was the best experience during my entire Morocco vacation and I recommend it to Anyone looking to have a relaxed stay.
Great interior , absolutely clean, amazing rooftop and perfectly located in the middle of the Medina but still quite - and on top of that the breakfast is delicious.
The service is also perfect as the staff understands their job and knows what good service means.
This hotel is phenomenal. If you're thinking about booking it, do it. The staff went above and beyond to make your stay the best it could be. The spa services and restaurant were both amazing. The rooms are even better in person. It's right in the heart of the Medina which was an awesome experience. We had such an amazing stay here, I'd go back to Fes just to stay at this hotel again.
Amazing Service, great staff which was so kind!
Also the most beautiful hotel I been to, the place is like a museum - the palace itself is just amazing, and full with great art.
We stayed first night at a regular suit, and when we asked to extend and they had no room, they were so generous to upgrade us to a better suit which was available.
great breakfast! Best I had in Morocco
Three of the loveliest woman help to run this riad. Absolutely delightful. Thank you, ladies! One of them was a magnificent cook - some of the best food we had during a month in Morocco - definitely order a dinner here! The rooftop terrace is very high, with a great view of the medina. Our room had outside windows, which is not true of some riad and dar rooms.
The hosts are amazing. They helped to arrange several tours and taxi transfers. They make it their objective to make sure your experience in Fes is the best it can be. To stay in a traditional home in the Medina is a special experience. You feel like you are staying "local". Don't expect a 3 or 4 star hotel but do expect a relaxing unique place to stay.
I used this property during my stay in Fes. I did spend a great time at this typical hotel (riad) and i enjoyed it a lot. Clean rooms, nice terrace, delicious food, nice staff very friendly. 24h service, you can find them at anytime you come to the front desk. I highly recommend this Riad for your stay in Fes medina, it’s located in a nice place, really safe.
The whole experience was exceptional! The staff were extremely friendly helpful and attentive, the breakfast was amazing, the riad was very neat and comfortable, and the location is perfect since it's in the middle of the medina. Stayed at a few riads in Morocco and all of them were great, but this one was definitely the best!
Everything was perfect at Riad Laaroussa. This is the best riad we visited in Fes, even after visiting some other "fancier" options around. Hands down our favorite riad in Morocco after traveling for one month in the country. Staff was very nice, making us feel at home after returning from the medina and day-trips.
Imagine that one of the cheapest places to stay in Fes. Little fat from touristic Medina but still close to the train station. You could come by taxi very close to the hotel. Old style typical Arabic nice hotel but I enjoyed my stay. Maybe you need to communicate with people at the reception in French if you can.
Riad Fes Nass Zmane was absolutely beautiful - more so than any of the ones we stayed at during our 2-week trip to Morocco. The terrace is incredible, with an unobstructed view of the medina. Breakfast was buffet style, with lots of good options. The staff was personable and kind. Rooms were nice and clean.
The location of this riad was really great! Right in the heard of the medina. It was tucked away enough that it was quiet- but easy to access everything. Breakfast was really great- some of the best I had in Morocco. Staff were wonderful with helping us with our bags at the end of our stay.
No. 1 place to stay in Fez. Hotel service at its best. Comfortable, clean and amazing staff. Dinner was absolutely delicious, definitely worth eating here than outside. You can even ask for assistance about Sahara desert tours, they give unbeatable prices
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great location just outside the medina with cafes, bank machines, and shops close by. The breakfast was very good with plenty of food. Hotel also offers transportation, hammam service etc. For a fee.
