Super clean and tidy property, lovely garden, well-maintained rooms. It is set back from the street so avoids the noise that many places have. Nothing fancy, but as far as we could tell, the nicest place in the city. Our unit had a kitchen and fireplace, which was great. Beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. Had a water fountain with purified water, which was very handy and allowed us not to buy bottled water. Walking distance to markets and restaurants.

This hotel is amazing. In the middle of a busy city, Hotel Colomba is set in peaceful, beautiful gardens, securely behind high walls. Everything is in excellent condition, and the host has clearly put a great deal of thought and experience into the place. He is able to give guests helpful advice about whatever you need. The bonus is an excellent full breakfast, including healthy options like good muesli, fruit and fresh juice. All staff were friendly and helpful.

La Casa de Zarela is a wonderful place to stay - good location - fine rooms (not luxury, but good) - and Zarela is incredibly helpful and kind with an easygoing attitude. Fantastic location, easy to access, amazing views of Huascaran Park just behind the town! Desk staff were extremely helpful and friendly (even brought us up hot tea to our room about half an hour after we checked in 🥰), breakfast was made fresh for us, and we were even made some Muna tea (helps with altitude) when we mentioned my husband was having some gut issues! Would absolutely stay here again!!

Really interesting city with great options for visiting a number of natural and historical sites: 2.5 hours to Chavin de Huantar, 2 hours to glaciers and mountain lakes. The city is teeming with travel operators to take you there - there are also colectivos at your own risk. Lots of restaurants of various cuisines, including both tourist-focused places and more local ones. We even found some good vegetarian options - especially at Paulino's Indian and Casa de Zarela Thai.

Like Cusco and Lima, it was a crowded city of aggressive drivers constantly honking and spewing exhaust. Prices were higher than Cusco with less souvenir shopping. Maybe choose a place a little outside the town or another town that is closer to most of the day trips--it'll save u bus time too.

Huaraz is a great location as a base for mountaineering and hiking. At an altitude of 3000m you can retain your acclimatization there. There is a good supermarket Trujillo where you can get most food for the mountains, good restaurants with nice artisanal beer, stores with basic hiking equipment and gas. The town is chaotic but in a nice kind of way and seems to be safe.

A great base for trips out to the surrounding mountains.
A great base for trips out to the surrounding mountains. Lots of great trekking with stunning views and such a different range of scenery. Snow and ice with glaciers, or big crevasse strewn hills, or stunning big valleys with views over Huaraz. Lots of outdoor shops, lots of good places to eat and doesn't feel at all touristy.

Not really a nice city.
Not really a nice city. There is the Museum in the center of the city worth seing, with a garden of (real) Chavin stones.
Food is terrible. Almost all restaurants, expensive or unexpensive, only serve fried stuff with fried potatoes and eventually a sallad that I would not dare to eat. Alternatives are pizzas and pastas. But one does not travell up to the mountains to eat such kind of commercial food and so heavy.
We took a private car for a city tour at 5 p.m. He took us to various places. Interesting. We asked him if there was something to do in the evenings, like a cinema or a theater, and he said there was nothing going on like that in Huaraz.
It is a place to stop for starting a several days trip mounaineering or mountain walks, like to the mountains, or in our case we planned a 2 days trip to Chavin de Huantar (archeaology and nature).
People in Huaraz are generally speaking quite hostile, even locals to each other, prices are higher than in Lima (apparently there is much money circulating as the result of all the the mines around), service in restaurants and cafes is quite bad. What is offered, is in most cases is not what they really have once you start to order. If you have to go to Huaraz for starting your trip to the mountains or elsewhere, take it relaxed, stay cool, don`t expect too much and you will notice some little cool details here and there.
We arrived terribly late in the night due to a bus delay of several hours. However, we were still able to check in at 2 am (once we had figured out the entrance was on the side of the building!).
Our suite was spacious, quite comfortable and remarkably cheap.
The hotel is located in the center of Huaraz, three blocks from the biggest city square (Plaza de Armas), with several restaurants nearby. It also has a terrace on the third floor from where you have a nice view of the Cordillera Blanca.
Luis was a phenomenal home manager, giving useful tips & Recommendations from the moment of our arrival. The property wasn't on a main street which made me feel safer there, and has a really yummy Chifa restaurant on the main road it's adjacent to. The hotel inside was clean, had functional Netflix and good enough Wifi. The breakfasts where good, with a choice between pancake & egg with yogurt/granola, coffee/tea, fruits and toast! Beds were really comfy and there was warm water.
This great hostel YERUPAJA MOUNTAIN HOSTEL has clean and comfortable rooms with good bathrooms. Very friendly and helpful reception staff who spoke good English and Spanish. Quiet area with good views of the city. It is in a good location two blocks from the Plaza de Armas. I would return without hesitation. Thank you for everything. The breakfast is delicious, comfortable beds, hot shower and a great view from the hills of huaraz.
RECOMMENDABLE
The best place to stay in Huaraz. Chris’s communicate on whatsapp makes for an excellent trip. We arrived late in the evening and he booked us a tour for the next day with ease. Also gave us excellent recommendations for food. The rooms, bathrooms and kitchen are simple but everything you need after a long day of exploring the beautiful Huaraz. Chris was amazing!
The good- the hotel is cute and charming. I liked that is is not right in town so not as crowded. But the staff are apathetic. Everywhere in Peru we had wanderduk service and this was not great. We asked a question about COVID testing (the website said they could help) abs they were annoyed we asked them. The bartenders give great service. The good was good.
We loved staying here so much - excellent value, central location, comfy beds and hot showers! But the best thing about our stay l were the owners of the hotel, who were so wonderful and friendly, helped us when we were struggling with altitude sickness and really went above and beyond to make our time in Huaraz amazing. Thank you so much :)
The staff is very kind and friendly. They made us feel at home. They helped us to organise our trips to Laguna Parón and Laguna 69 and they recommended some good place to grab something to eat. The hotel is very comfortable and is equipped with two things very difficult to find in Peru: hot water and functioning WiFi.
the room was simply furnished but functional. bathroom was clean. breakfast was great… with a fruit shake, eggs, bread and jam. coffee too!
the family were very helpful and kind. Very trustworthy. they even texted me to return to the hotel as I had forgotten to pick up my iPad when I left for the bus station.
Best place to stay in Huaraz! It’s clean, breakfast is included, the beds are very comfy and above all: the staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. You can book several tours with them and will even prepare breakfast and coca tea for you when you have a very early hike. Would definitely recommend!
Best customer service , staffs there are amazing !! Helpful and enthusiastic❤️
Room is so tidy with a lovely garden!! and shower water is hot that's so important traveling in Peru.
We stayed multi days in there when tracking , best living place in Huraz even in Peru so far for us !!
Best place in Huaraz 😁 Amazing people run this hostel. Even if you're not staying there I highly recommend their tour. We stayed with them and ended up going on the 8 days Huayhuash trip. Best experience ever!! Our guide Margarita also worked at Krusty and had truly been the best
Lovely hotel close to Plaza de Armas, maybe 5 minute walk. Very comfortable bed and a hot shower! The staff were very friendly and accomodating. The terrace offers stunning views over the city and surrounding mountains.
The BEST and CHEAPEST hotel I stayed at over more than 5 weeks in Peru. The room is so nice, bed so comfortable, shower so hot, and owners so helpful! Plus they provide free breakfast and book day tours for you!
All the staff were lovely , clean and comfortable room --- highly recommend a stay here !! It was our first stay in Peru and they really made us feel welcome and gave us lots of recommendations ☺️
Everything, from the moment we arrived until we left. Facilities and comfort were top notch but the best thing of all was the staff, there’s no else we would stay on a return to huaraz :)
Very nice hotel in a quiet part of Huaraz. Much preferred to staying in the city center. Excellent view of the mountains from the upper floors. Very kind and attentive hosts/owners
