Capital of the Republic of China (commonly known as Taiwan), huge Taipei is surrounded by mountains. Taipei 101, once the world’s tallest building, dominates its skyline from Xinyi, an area known for the most active nightlife.
At Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall the national flag is raised every morning and the guard changed every hour. Less known for tourists is National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, containing a tall bronze statue of the country’s founding father.
Taipei has tons of museums, but the best are Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines and the National Palace Museum – one of world’s largest collections of Chinese artifacts. Even more numerous are the temples dedicated to Buddhist, Taoist and Chinese folk religions. Xinsheng South Road is nicknamed "Road to Heaven" for its sheer number, but most famous is Longshan Temple in Wanhua, the oldest district.
Taipei shopping is fantastic and includes Core Pacific Living Mall, supposedly Asia’s largest. The Ximending area has lots of shops (and karaoke), while the Shilin Night Market should not be missed. For a break from the bustle head to central Daan Forest Park, the botanical gardens with its lotus ponds,or Yangmingshan National Park, known for hot spring baths and spring cherry blossom.
Whether you fly into Songshan or Taiwan Taoyuan Airport, the well connected public transportation system can take you to any Taipei hotel on Booking.com.

Taipei information centers no longer have paper maps and everything is now online. This is great, but not if you are going to a remote spot. Taipei is so safe that you can go to 7-11 at 3 am in your pajamas and slippers.

Taipei is awesome.
Taipei is awesome. Had dinner at A Joy in the 101, amongst other places. Also at Shilin night market - finally had the stinky tofu :) It was my 7th stay in Taipei, I'm always happy to be there. People are generally kind and polite, the MRT is fantastic. There's a lot to see and do, but as I was there for work, I only had limited time for that.

We were at first overwhelmed by the size of Taipei but quickly got used to the super efficient MRT system which is very easy to use and there are posters up at every station showing the exits and where exactly you are in relation to them.
We found the city a strange mix of old crumbling buildings that looked like they were about to fall down and brand new flashy skyscrapers and shopping malls. Even though the old buildings looked ugly when you looked up, strangely, at eye level they were sometimes quite charming with cute cafes, small bars and restaurants at least this was the case in Zhongshan district where we stayed.
There were so many little places that we wanted to visit, but of course we couldn’t get around them all. Ah well, there’s always next time. We would definitely return to Taipei and next time go further afield into the Tiawanese countryside, perhaps spend a couple of weeks traveling around the island.
We ate exclusively at local restaurants recommended by the lovely staff at our hotel. They were very good and cheap too, also ate at the night markets which were even cheaper.

Taipei was a very nice place to visit. very modernized city. a lot of interesting places to see. the only problem I faced was communicating with English language.

Friendly people, great restaurants, interesting culture and country history. Not always cheap, so do some research beforehand!
Used a Travel Operator to go to Yehliu & Jiufen & Shifen, on a Day Tour (Departure from Ximending), I was interesting and fun.
I also found some interesting clothes shops, even though I had no intention to buy anything.
If you like tea, Taipei/Taiwan will surely reward your taste buds. But not cheap!
The famous Din Tai Fung (chain) of restaurants is pretty good, and it is worth the experience. I went to the Xinyi branch right at the opening to avoid long cues.
Taipei is a very green city, even though cars and local bikes can't stop moving around!
When I booked Hotel Metropolitan Taipei, I booked it for its location. I had very little expectation of the service and did not realized they were the first JR East hotel outside Japan. It explains the amazing hospitality, and the happy hour and snacks at the executive lounge are to die for. Amazing staffs and hospitality. Special call out to Heiko Chen, the Lounge Manager for his professionalism and personalized service. Not to mention, the overall care and concern by the front line staffs at the lounge. We felt very much at home.
If you want to get here from the airport, if you are transferring to a flight the next day like we did, get the 48 hour metro pass and get the MRT to Taipei Main, transfer to the Bannan Line and go 2 stops to Zhongxiao Xinsheng, leave exit 4, turn right and walk up the road to the right, turn right and walk past the garden and then walk along until you get to the crossing with the petrol station.
Nice hotel with comfy beds and a lot of space in the room which we appreciated after our flight from London.
Finders Hotel is perfectly located in a great strategic location, a walking distance to the Main Station and Ximending. Very close to the Peace Memorial Park. It's really easy to get around! There are also many convenient stores and bus stops nearby. Accommodating staff from lobby to room services. Great buffet Breakfast. On top of that FREE COFFEE, NOODLES, SODAS and more at the lobby. It was also very easy and smooth to extend our stay for 2 more days due to our flight being delayed because of a typhoon.
We stayed at CITY SUITES Taipei Nandong from March 2nd to March 10th, 2024, and were thoroughly impressed.
The rooms were outstanding, equipped with modern amenities for a comfortable stay.
The staff were incredibly helpful, assisting us with airport pickup, drop-off, and providing great recommendations for local sightseeing.
The hotel's convenient location made exploring Taipei a breeze.
Overall, a fantastic experience that we highly recommend to others. We can't wait to return!
I recently booked in this hotel for a family trip and I could say that it was truly wonderful! The location is perfect because it is near the Main Station, shops, and restaurants. As with the hotel, I find it very much like a home. It’s peaceful, clean, amenities are available, and all the rooms are located in one floor. The common area is perfect because you get to hang out, talk, and eat. The staff are all professional but the feel of the hotel is cozy. I loved it!
Taipei is not that geared towards Western visitors, and this hotel was no exception. The staff did not speak much English though they were very pleasant and as helpful as they could be. The breakfast was really aimed at Asian tastes, with not much on offer for European visitors, and especially for one of us who is gluten free. The room was on the small side with rather large heavy furniture, but it was clean and the bathroom was very roomy.
Our room at the Rido Hotel gave us a beautiful view of Da'an Park, which we explored on our first morning in Taipei - walking off our jet lag. Great location for exploring local sites on foot (including Shida, or Taiwan Normal University, and the famous Din Tai Fung restaurant) or greater Taipei by subway! The staff at the tiny garage next door were wonderful - taking great care of our rental car and helping us with our luggage.
The hotel is spacious and clean. The cleaning staff tidied up my room every day so everything was clean.
The hotel has a mini-fridge so I bought some grocery products
Easily accessible from Taoyuan airport if travelling on Taoyuan Airport MRT (no changes needed)
The nearest station is Sanchong Station (airport MRT / metro), which is a 10-minute walk from the station (just walk down from the New Taipei Metropolitan Park)
Highly recommended for central Taipei due to value, location, staff and room size
It looks like a business hotel, but it will serve you well as a hotel for a leisure stay too. You will get exactly what you expect.
The breakfast is mostly options from Chinese cuisine, but all were good.
Great location near Taipei 101 for a great price. It is a budget hotel so no lobby, no swimming pool and no complimentary breakfast. These were not important to us since we were sight seeing and only needed a clean and quiet place for the night. Near metro.
Just 5 minutes to Ximen walking street and 1km to Taipei station. The room is clean, big window, and very ancient artitechture. The staffs are super friendly and helpful. Help us print documents and adapter. That is best hotel in Taipei
Location: The hotel was beside an MRT station and was easily reached from the airport. The hotel was also in front of a large park so it was great for early morning or early evening walks and runs. Cheap food places are also nearby.
The room was beautiful. Incredible view, super comfortable bed, great lighting, quiet, huge corridors, quick elevators, public bath. I've stayed in Mitsui Garden hotels in Japan and this one in Taipei is equally as impressive.
This hotel is so so comfortable and clean. It is walkable to 101, has laundry, and has great service. The lady who worked at the breakfast restaurant was so friendly and kind. She even offered her home made tea to me.
The location is great. There's a car park right in front of the hotel, great for those who rent a car during their travel. Within short distance walk there are MRT stations. Xi Men is about 5-8 minutes walk!
I like the 1. park at the back; 2. the clean room; 3. the balcony view; 4. the Japanese style toilet; 5. the lounge with the books; 6. the hotel location; and 7. that breakfast was not overwhelming.
Excellent location. Close to National Museum, Peace Park, and NTU station, just one stop from Taipei Main Station. It's like a dormitory-style capsule hotel. Staff were very friendly.
Great location, easy to access Taipei 101 via a raised walkway adjacent to the hotel. The property feels quite grand, with an imposing foyer and polished marble galore.
I love the location. it is near my banks. near shopping areas and there is a parking area in front of the hotel. love the breakfast place nearby. Thanks
