Fairbanks was amazing and the entire community was very welcoming throughout. Traveling during the summer months was quite easy because no ice or snow on the road, however, in some areas snow could still be seen due to the permafrost. The landscape and lakes were amazing and filled with wildlife. Watching trees and scrubs come back to life after winter was so fulfilling and the early summer chill in the air felt absolutely amazing on the face and arms. Left too early for the Salmon Bake but Pioneer Park was filled with activities throughout. Families were emerging from the dark winter nights and you could see the happiness and cheer on everyone's face.

Fairbanks is a great place to see the Northern Lights.

Fairbanks is a great place to see the Northern Lights. We went on February 29 for five nights and saw the Aurora four of the five nights. I even saw it the first night from our Lodging at Pikes Waterfront Lodging. You can even rent clothing from Alaska Elements that will keep you warm in 40 below weather. I'm a sunny California girl and have never been in weather below 20 and I was toasty warm in the gear they supplied. It was so convenient. They dropped the clothes at our hotel and picked them up at the end. They cost less than if we had bought the necessary shoes alone. It included the parka, mittens , bib pants, and snow shoes. So don't let the weather discourage you from going. It was a once in a lifetime experience I am so glad I did. I went with two girlfriends and we are all over 65 and had the best time ever. I recommend staying at Pikes Waterfront Lodge. You can book evening tours that takes you to special places to see the Aurora that include a nice warm place to view them from as well as being able to go out on decks to view them. The clothes will keep you warm. I laid in the snow for an hour viewing the the Northern Lights and was as warm as could be. Also my iPhone 15 took great pictures. If doing a dog sled ride is on your bucket list, Rod's Alaska guide tour is great. Again, the gear will keep you warm. Also another fun thing to do is Running Reindeer Ranch which lets you walk through a forest interacting with 13 reindeer that let you pet them and walk around you. It is an unreal experience. You should do both activities. If you go in March, you can also see the World Championship Ice Sculptures. And they are "out of this world". Have fun-I hope I had encouraged many people to have these lifetime experiences.

Great friendly town with polite helpful people and loads of interest for tourists. We found it's also got a great bus service - the locals don't use it because they have cars, but we used it because there were no hire cars available - book ahead.

Fairbanks has lots of winter activities to enjoy if you tent...

Fairbanks has lots of winter activities to enjoy if you tent a car like dog sledding, snowmobiling, ice sculptures at the Fairgrounds. The North Pole is only a 20 minute drive from Fairbanks and Chena Hot Springs an hour drive. The roads are maintained and the people are friendly. There are many delicious restaurants. We especially liked The Cookie Jar for breakfast. We enjoyed the University of Fairbanks Museum and the Aurora Borealis movie in the museum. We liked seeing the Alaska Pipeline off the highway and made a couple of stops to read about it. Definitely visit the Aurora Ice Museum in Chena Hot Springs. It is a fun experience and there is a free tour of the resort’s self sustainable power plant and green houses where they grow their own fresh vegetables. There are several Northern Light viewing areas near Fairbanks (Cleary Summit, Murthy’s Dome and Chena Hot Springs). To view the Northern Lights we suggest booking a tour to be with knowledgeable guides if it’s your first time. Also, rental cars are not allowed to drive to the Arctic Circle, so it’s best to book a tour if you plan to go there. The weather is very chilly, but it’s worth bundling up in layers to enjoy all Fairbanks has to offer. We definitely want to return to Fairbanks in the very near future during the months of February or March.

Fairbanks is a beautiful city. We traveled there to see the northern lights and was not disappointed. Lots of activities. Snowmobiles, dog sledding, Hot Springs. It’s a really nice place. Anyone who loves nature I would highly recommend them to visit.

The breakfast was essentially the same.

The breakfast was essentially the same. Scrambled eggs, that were usually cold although placed on a warmer, potatoes, and saug/bacon. Oatmeal. Poor overall appearance for cost. The shower had hair long obvious strand. The toilet seats were stained or just old. The fitness room, 3 machines for entire hotel. The clerks unable to answer basic questions and/or unable explain charges at checkout

The hosts were extremely kind and helpful. Communication prior to our arrival was fantastic. Breakfasts were home cooked and practically made to order! My bed was so comfy and I'm a bit of a tough customer. I really enjoyed talking with Fred, who is a wealth of information about the area and Alaska in general. I also really liked that it was out of town but pretty centrally located to anything I wanted to do including not too far from the AFB where I was working all week. I would definitely stay here again if I find myself in Fairbanks.

The lodge is so homey and comfortable with good grounds to walk around. Our room is clean and tidy withcomplete kitchen utensils, flatwares and plate including a microwave oven for heating up food. The toilet is clean with all the bath and shower needs. Breakfast is good. Janet, the owner of the lodge, was so kind and accommodating. She would wake up the guests and knock on our doors in the middle of the night just to call us and see the Northern Lights. She would even, take our pictures with the lights as our backdrop.

The room was comfy with everything you need to cook etc . Very friendly and helpful staff, the things to do sheet was great. Could easily stay another 2 days as our 2 days was not enough. Fairbanks has a lot to offer and nearby areas. Highly recommend this hotel on a tight budget. Breakfast was an added bonus, although you had to travel around the block for the breakfast building as we had studio apartment in a different location to main premises. Would stay again.

Best price and location for our 4 days in Fairbanks (plus there was a variety of different breakfasts everyday). Free hotel shuttle to and from the airport without a long wait, even after 1 a.m. Kind to store our luggage after we checked out. Short walk to bus station and supermarket. Owner gave us helpful tip to use Turo app for car rental. We definitely will return and stay with Golden North inn. Thanks everyone for meeting our needs, and giving your best.

Everything: flexibility of the hosts (our cabin had been bear sprayed by previous guest and the hosts were trying really hard to clean it all up) We were given the option to be refunded or to try and see if it worked. We stayed and it was one of the highlights of our Alaska trip. Real sense of been in nature. Clean, spacious, nice kitchen, porch, birds coming to great use. Fresh milk and eggs from the farm were a treat!

This location maybe the sweet spot. It is just a short drive to the heart of the city but felt like we were deep in the woods. Being attached to the main house, we felt on an adventure, yet safe. Our hosts made us feel welcome from the first moment. If you're looking for a sense of "the real Alaska" without having to give up all the niceties of modern living, you can't go wrong with this property.

Steven was generous enough to share his home with me and he made me feel right at home, it was immaculately clean and he was full of insight on things to do in fairbanks/alaska. I would recommend anyone to stay here, it was cloudy the three nights I was there but I was still able to see the aurora lights in late August
