Anchorage is a great destination and jumping off point for amazing Alaska adventures!
Anchorage/Alaska is a great place to visit, but you need a car in order to get out of town and really see what it offers. If you stay just in the city you will miss the most INCREDIBLE sites. You have to travel a bit. You should plan to come in middle of June to end of July to miss some of the rain.
We can’t say enough on what a wonderful experience the Natural History bus tour into the park was to take. We saw all of Mt. Denali (no clouds obstructing the view), moose, a grizzly bear, caribou, hares and Alaskan ground squirrels. The scenery was spectacular. The free dog sledding demonstration was really fun as well.
If you book a park trip that gets back after 6pm beware!!! The bus company dropped us at the bus depot at 10pm. The shuttle stops running at 6pm. We asked the driver for a lift, he said no. We had to stand around, outside, in the woods in Alaska, for one hour until our hotel finally picked us up. Make sure the bus takes you back to your hotel or to a shuttle stop that still has busses running!!!!
Like nowhere else on earth, unique area of nature and history. Very scenic and great base for nature tours. The real Alaska. Historic Hotel Seward a must.
Homer is an amazing location to take in the immense beauty of Alaska. As spring begins, it would be best to plan excursions before arriving there. There is a water taxi to Halibut Cove which operates with a restaurant in Halibut Cove. We were unable to go as the reservations were full for the day we had available. In addition, popular restaurants also can be unavailable without reservations made in advance.
Anchorage is a great place to start boat or train or other explorations of Alaska. Cruise terminal short bus ride (Whittier) and trains and buses to Denali. Lots of boat tours in Whittier too. Great hikes not far put of town also.
Healy Alaska is a small town about 10 miles north of Denali National Park. It is a small year round town with many seasonal residents. There are several small restaurants. 49th State Brewery is fun and excellent. Redbeards’ Barbecue and gas station- good food and great folks!
My 5th time staying in Seward. I love this place! Great food, happy people and fun adventures. Alaska “Point of View” is my favorite place to stay. Ray’s is the best restaurant. Kenai Fjords Tours has the best day cruises.
Lots of restaurants and shopping compared to home in Fairbanks. Visited the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center just south of Girdwood. Excellent for all ages. Alaska Wild Scoops has great ice cream.
Anchorage
I broke my arm while we were in Alaska so we spent a bit more time in the apartment than we originally planned. So it is with extra appreciation that I can say the apartment was clean, warm and comfortable, and had everything we needed, almost like being at home. Anchorage is quite small so everything seemed pretty close. Oh, small note to owners with respect to arrival instructions - it isn’t immediately clear which is the “front” & which is the “back” of the property. It would be good if a plan showing the unit entrance could be provided.
I ordered a room and got it confirmed and the front desk lady declined are rejecting me from getting in your room and very bad service and I think she is very racist and she shouldn’t be that way toward Alaska native’s. Anyways I would really appreciate it if you guys give me a refund or A few nights or a month or a week of your services. I amReally looking forward on hearing back from you guys you guys all take good care stay safe and happy holidays to you and your families and your guests at your hotel.
Anchorage
Scott was very thorough in his communication and the location is great not far from any of the highways, the complex is family friendly and in a safe neighborhood. We loved the decor it set a perfect ambiance for being in Alaska. I would definitely recommend this property over a cramped hotel room and would stay here again if I am ever visiting this beautiful country again. Thankyou Scott for recommending Simon and Seaforts Saloon and grill, the waterfront view and the food was out of this world :)
Glennallen
It was the best place in Alaska we had a pleasure to sleep in. Very nice hotel, with the authentic soul, located in a picturesque lake shoreline. They are providing very tasty, complimentary breakfasts, you can also order other meals and drinks later. I promise you that a pint of beer on a very green grass in front of the lodge will taste like nowhere else. You can rent a free canoe and explore neighboring islands, water in the lake was warm so we enjoyed swimming too.
Alaska (and Anchorage) can be particularly challenging for service oriented businesses like hotels. Workers can drop off the face of the earth, supplies can vanish etc. The Hyatt Place somehow rises above this chaos (with repetitive attention to detail) with an amazingly friendly staff who manage expectations while knowing full well that the carpet could get yanked out from beneath their feet with no warning.
Anchorage
- super cold a/c - no prostitution/drug deals or anything sketchy going on outside that I saw - TV worked well though lots of “not authorized” channels - cheap (by Alaskan standards) and had availability last minute - sheets & bed clean and comfy - toilet seemed clean - convenient to stores/highway - free breakfast (I left too early to report in detail on this aspect)
We booked this hotel and visited Seward for a cruise, the Alaska Wild Life Conservation Center, Byron Glaciers, and other places with our rental car. The place is well located, and driving to those places is reasonable close for day trips. The hotel was comfy and close to many restaurants for breakfast or dinner. They have a kitchen where you can cook your own food too if you want.
This was my wife and mine first trip to Anchorage, Alaska and our stay at Diamond Hotel was accentuated by the polite and friendly staff, not to forget Ron, the shuttle driver, whose knowledge and experience about Alaska was to our advantage. He gave us places to visit and also took time to explain each tourist attraction. Thank you Ron, we benefited from your expertise.
The hotel was really nice, nothing fancy but great for a few days stay and compared to other places I stayed in Alaska with a pretty good price. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was in packages due to covid but it was actually quite enough - muffin, fruit, yogurt, snack and juice. It's very close to Pioneer Park.
Healy
The hotel is located north of the national park in Healy, Alaska. You will need a rental car to get there. It is 12 miles from the train station. The rooms are clean and comfortable. There was moose in the parking lot early in the morning. We saw more wildlife at the hotel than we saw in the National park.
Juneau
The hotel is not far from downtown and Alaska State Museum is nextdoor. Heaters in the room worked well, which is important in cold weather. Cafes, pizza, grocery store are round the corner. The staff was very friendly and helpful, they offered a transfer from and back to the airport which is free.
We loved the location, the size and flow of the apartment, Georgene was very accommodating, and the apartment was welcoming with all of the needed living tools and extras like coffee, snacks and travel accessories. Being our first trip to Anchorage and Alaska, it was a great place to stay.
Friendly and helpful staff, the kitchen attendant was very nice and prepared individual breakfasts (from a limited option menu). If this hotel was $150 per night rather than over $300 per night, the rating would have been a 10 or ‘excellent’, but, this is Alaska, and things are expensive.
Great proximity to the airport and very efficient shuttle. This hotel is not super expensive, but also not the complete dive some of the other reviews make it sound like. Outdated, but clean, polite staff, and a great value, especially during the Alaskan summer.
Nenana
Robin is an excellent host. She attended to our every need. Hotel was in perfect location for our daily activities and within a nearby drive of Denali and restaurants etc. Rooms are cozy but have everything you need, including real Alaskan charm!
Everything!. Loved the hotel and the people. It was our first time in Alaska, and we had a lot of questions. Called the.front desk many times. They always answer quickly. The room has all you need including a decent kitchenette.
Seward
Convenient OKish hotel if you plan on taking the Alaska Railroad. They will pick up you and your luggage from the train station and drop you off at the hotel on arrival and do the same thing the other way on your departure…
Homer
Owner Manager attends to every detail of your stay. My room was fully furnished with every home comfort you would expect at a Hilton Hotel but for a “2 star” price…..Most highly recommend for anyone visiting Homer Alaska!
Staff were SUPER helpful. We used the hotel as a hub for our various expeditions during our one-month stay in Alaska and they held our luggage for us at various points when we didn't want to bring everything with us.
Very good breakfast. Also when tried to return from a remote lodge out of Kodiak, Alaska and couldn't make it due to the weather, the hotel cancelled my reservation with no charge. Thank you very much.
