Barbi at the front desk was very pleasant, efficient and professional. She always greeted us during our coming and going. We overheard her give restaurant suggestions to another traveler and we tried one of those suggestions for dinner. It was excellent. She is a great ambassador for your hotel.

It is not top quality for rooms but for someone who just needs a good and clean place it is excellent! The customer service was premium and top-notch!

This is a sleepy town without any real attractions where everything closes early even on weekend nights. However, I can strongly recommend the WildEdge brew pub, both for its beers and the live music (though also closing at 9 pm).
The Canyons of the Ancients and adjacent pueblo ruins North of Cortes are well worth visiting.

A very nice town of about 9000 people, a very clean town with some awesome eateries. Lounging Lizard I highly recommend as well as Beny's Diner for breakfast. Wish I had more time to explore this little gem of a town. Very easy to get around.

Cortez is a cute little town.
Cortez is a cute little town. Friendly people and a variety of restaurants and fast food facilities. Not sure I would avoid any part of Cortez. Close to the 4 Corners attraction as well as Mesa Verde.

Cortez is a convenient location.
Cortez is a convenient location. We went to Mesa Verde National Park, Monument Valley, Canyonlands and Arches National Park, and Telluride from there.
Arches National Park closes for a few hours if too crowded so it's recommended to get there early.

My hubby picked up tacos at a local Mexican restaurant in Cortez and they were quite good. Cortez is a small town, so navigating around town is very easy. Next time, I would most likely look for a cabin in the mountains for lodging.

They put on a great fireworks display!
They put on a great fireworks display! It was awesome to see the locals very appreciative of the display, also.
This town is less than 20 minutes from Mesa Verde National Park.
Not sure if it was the area or the fact that it was the 4th of July but there was more drug & police activity than we are used to(we are from Northern Colorado).
If you need ice for your cooler, don't waste your time going anywhere but to the Safeway and they have very nice cashiers to boot!
My wife and I support locally owned and operated resteraunts over chains. We are trying to apply this to hotels/motels as well. That transition is a process. I felt we were rewarded for our effort at the Retro. That said front desk staffing needs an upgrade. I realize at this point having a warm body is a challenge. The young man that checked us in provided no customer service. It was a poor start- fortunately the condition of the room and the overall unique ambience overcame the poorly trained front desk individual
Absolutely nothing. They were horrible. Made a family of 4 with 2 young boys under the age of 3, sleep out in their car for 2 nights. All because they don't accept locals. When we booked online on booking, We are in the process of moving and needed a place to stay and they wouldn't allow it. Even when they COPS asked them twice for us to stay, they said no. Also charged us a cancelation fee even tho they wouldn't allow us to stay, so thats why it was canceled. It's one of the worst places to go in, cortez, Colorado!!!!!!
Was right on main drag of Cortez that leads to Mesa Verde. SHort drive to park entrance but then quite a drive from park entrance to cliff dwelling sites (30 minutes+). Hotel close to several good restaurant options in town of Cortez. Place was clean, bed comfortable and we pretty much slept and left.
Bunny and Kevin were the best hosts one could ever ask for! This working ranch was beautiful and VERY QUIET! We enjoyed our conversations with both Kevin and Bunny. I had not been to the Cortez area in over 40 yrs. Cortez is a wonderful small American town! Thanks to both Bunny and Kevin!
Could accommodate 3 adults and it was pet friendly. The first room they assigned us was not ready for guests. There were beer bottles all over and the room hadn’t been cleaned. The second room was OK. It was clean and the TV was on Directv. Air conditioner was good.
I loved this hotel and the family suite we stayed in. My family loved it, it was cozy and worth the money spent. It was clean, the staff was friendly and the breakfast was good. The outdoor pool was luke warm and it was nice to hop into after driving from Los Angeles.
Of course the photos are beautified, but its a calm relaxing house near the town. Very nice prepared (labels on kitchen cabinet doors), good cool room climate. Dont expect luxury. But we felt very well there.
Was unable to stay. The property was sold and all reservations canceled.
The (former) manager had arranged a room for us at a different motel down the road and they honored our arranged hotel cost.
This hotel/motel was AWESOME!
SUPER clean and the rooms were larger than a typical modern hotel. Highly recommend The Retro Inn to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable place to stay.
I booked in one minute because another hotel refused my checkin and here I found a great stay solituon. Clean, easy to park, good breakfast and super staff !
