Cortez, CO is an old town in rural southwestern Colorado close to Mesa Verde National Park. The town itself was depressing. It is worth the trip to go to the casino 10 miles south of town to eat at their buffet.
We really enjoyed the food at La Casita! Very tasty Mexican food! My middle aged son and I loved the fact that Cortez was close to Mesa Verde National Park. The Park was beautiful, and we even got to see some wild horses! We were saddened to hear the Park has closed its' doors to these wonderful animals. Hope the wild mustang lovers will find homes for them. The Park has approximately 150 horses. We also saw deer, antelope, and other wildlife.
Had a great time! Spent the day at Mesa Verde National Park and had an amazing time. Went shopping at the Antique Corral! Awesome store with a ton of stuff. Bought some treasures to bring home. Cortez is in a beautiful location. Had dinner at L'Fargo restaurant and brewery. Great food and lovely restaurant. Had breakfast at Denny's in the old style diner.
We selected Mesa Verde specifically to see the ruins. Unfortunately we were a few days too early for the ranger led tours to the ruins themselves but enjoyed a view from across a canyon. The visitor center was beautiful and informative. Be prepared for a long drive up the mesa with stunning views
Good place to stay if you want to visit Mesa Verde NP (but Monument Valley, Arches and Canyonlands are also within less than two hours). Cortez gas stations have reasonable prices. Walmart and many restaurants available in town on main street.
Not much to say. I needed an inexpensive place to sleep for the night as I was headed to Telluride the following day. The price, location, and proximity to restaurants fulfilled my needs. I plan to stay again one night in July.

We had a lovely big room and there were all the facilities we needed - coffee machine, fridge, microwave and great toiletries . There was plenty of parking and the breakfast was good with a variety of choices. It was also a bonus that they had kept the outdoor pool open because the weather was good - it was nice and clean and I used it both days that we stayed there. Good location for visiting Mesa Verde National Park.

Cheapest hotel I could find in town, and I liked it! It had way more character than the generic chain hotels I've been staying in while traveling... Clean room, comfy bed, clean bathroom with HOT water, quiet, laundry room, free breakfast & coffee, nice people, and a great Mexican restaurant next door that's open late.

The staff were all very friendly. My group of friends felt that this motel was above average. The breakfast was great although personally I would have liked some yoghurt and fruit - something for the future perhaps. Absolutely fantastic location for Mesa Verde National Park. Great microbreweries in Cortez as well.

Hotel is modern and clean. Had no issues with late checkin or parking. Beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed the Keurig coffee in our room. Breakfast is hot and has a selection of various omelets and meats. Would love to stay a second night!

It was the cheapest hotel we had during our vacation, but also the oldest (i'm lying, Old Faithful in Yellowstone is probably older). It was ok, but really no more than that. Personnel was friendly.

This is a working ranch with a nice range of cabins, houses, etc. to choose from. It's 30 minutes from a town with lots of dining options. It's rustic and fun and the setting is incredible. The owners are wonderful and welcoming. Where else can you bottle feed a lamb or have a different dog sleep on the porch at your feet every day of your visit? They also have a person on staff who is an excellent guide to lesser known attractions in the area.

This place is unbelievable. It was very remote but really special. The grounds we well kept in superb condition. The wild life was an added attraction. We saw several mule deer on site. Driving in there is an apple orchard, and the trees were full of fruit. These along with or accommodations were exceptional. I would definitely stay at Kelly's place again. Really neat place with a great staff.
