If you are planning a trip along the garden route then Knysna is a must visit spot. The views across the lagoon and the Knysna Heads are amazing and so many options for accommodation from camping by the lagoon to 5* hotels.
It is also a good base to explore the Eastern end on the garden route right up to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).
There is also a number of fantastic mountain passes to drive up to the Karoo, but make sure you have a good vehicle and a good head for heights. Knysna is fantastic and well worth a visit.

As a place to stay, Knysna is rather small, and moreover less secure after dark than other places. Knysna and its islands/view points can e.g. easily be visited from Plettenberg where there is much more choice in terms of restaurants. 1 day is more than enough for Knysna.

The views are magnificent.
The views are magnificent. The surrounding areas are also very worthy of visits. Plettenburg Bay, Tsitsikamma, Sedgefield and Wilderness are excellent. Something great to do every day!
Knysna itself is a little run down and touristy, after all it straddles a motorway (N2), but there are places that are tucked away which are charming.....one goes there however for the views!

Knysna is a quaint town surrounded by lush forests and a stunning lagoon. The iconic Knysna Heads are simply mesmerizing. The clothing shops are a bit pricey and one has to ensure you have enough spending money to have a good time.
We enjoyed our meals at Thirty-Four South. Knysna is definitely a tourist
destination.
We arrived at the Premier hotel Knysna shortly before lunch and we were greeted by super friendly and helpful staff. We were too early for check in, but we relaxed at the pool with drinks, entertainment (bingo!) and an awesome pool-side lunch. We immediately felt like we were finally on holiday. The room was massive, the food was amazing and the staff were incredibly attentive. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone searching for comfort, style and friendly staff. Breakfast was amazing and fresh.
Fantastic location close to town with wonderful views right across Knysna to the Heads. The host has excellent attention to detail and provided us with all the info we could need, incl local restaurant specials and suggestions.
The property is extremely well set up for load shedding and the wood-fired hot tub is kept warm throughout the day by the staff.
The main house is massive and well furnished, with all the comforts one could require, and it's quiet at night in spite of being so close to town.
Stunning western view of the Knysna lagoon from the bedroom. Short walk to a view of the Knysna heads. The host, Aneryne, was wonderfully hospitable. She greeted us at the door, gave us loads of great walking and restaurant recommendations. She attentive, proactive and warm. The home was beautifully decorated. We especially enjoyed the local coffee table books. The space was easy going, comfortable and freeing. We felt completely at ease allowing our well trained dog to roam the area. 11/10.
De View is located beautifully above Knysna with a stunning view of the Knysna Lagoon. Still it takes only about 15 minutes to the city and the Knysna Waterfront. Additionally, Dom and Hans are perfect hosts, friendly, helpful, making you instantly feel welcome. And I cannot remember that I have ever been served such a great breakfast. Clear recommendation to book at de View if you are in Knysna.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay, hosts were really friendly and catered to our every need. We ran the forest marathon , upon retuning back after 12h00 we were spoilt with full breakfast. The tranquil scenery overlooking the lake & beautiful landscaped gardens is any city slickers dream getaway. Waterfront Lodge a must for your next stop in Knysna !
Interesting and quirky hotel in Knysna. The room was spacious and also had features from the original use of the building and the communal spaces were great. Breakfast was very tasty (many members of the public also come in to eat there which is a good sign!) and the portions were huge. Perfectly located for restaurants and boat trips by the lagoon.
Check-in process was simple and easy.
The place is extremely beautiful and huge. The views were exceptional and the finishings inside house were modern, clean and beautiful.
The estate is close by to the Pezula hotel, the Knysna heads, Knysna waterfront, Thesen Islands, and to grocery outlets, giving you many options on things to do on your stay
Great little apartment in Knysna centre. Good location to walk to all shops and waterfront. Clean and cosy apartment. Kim was a good host and provided clear instructions on how to access car park and apartment. I left a shirt in the wardrobe, but Kim arranged to get it back to me (thank you again)
Hosts Dianne and Rob was very welcoming and made sure that my stay was excellent, they had also send pin locations for activities in and around Knysna to makes sure I do not miss anything. My next holiday will definitely be with them again. Looking forward to my next next stay there.
210@ the Gallery is a fantastic Garden Route getaway! The location is perfect! Within walking distance to restaurants, shopping malls, boutiques and the Knysna Waterfront. The studio is very well kitted out for a very comfortable stay. The air con is a big plus!!! We'll def be back.
Very close to Knysna East Head. Nice balcony, unfortunately did not overlook the heads but did overlook beautiful properties on the hillside. Loadshedding impacts were well managed. Graham the host was very helpful in getting me help for a small emergency. Thank you Graham
Everything about these self catering apartments. My second time staying there and it's always a joy to return. The host is so helpful and understanding, asked for a later checkout and they had no problem with it.
The location and setting, its right on the lagoon with beautiful views, we had friends who were able to come and collect us from the jetty by boat. In walking distance to the waterfront and various restaurants
Great accomodation and value. Beautiful & safe location with fabulous views. Helpful and friendly staff. Impressive breakfast buffet and dinner menu. Lovely garden areas.
I highly recommend the hotel.
Lovely comfortable apartment with a stunning view of the Knysna Lagoon. The host was most helpful and obliging and the complex secure and walking distance to the Waterfront and shops.
Very neat and clean guest house. Manager is extremely helpful and friendly. Good breakfast. Easy walk down to the Knysna waterfront area. Safe parking for cars inside the property.
This place is very close to waterfront and knysna mall, Double room has a spectacular view from the balcony. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at paradise heads.
