We just LOVE Somerset Gift! We stayed in Fish Eagle.
We just LOVE Somerset Gift! We stayed in Fish Eagle. From the view and facilities to the helpfulness of the farm mangeress, Tanya, everything was lovely. Tanya went out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable and gave us all a very warm welcome (including the fur kids!). There are beautiful waterfalls and rockpools that you can hike to and there is also a river and a dam with kayaks.
There is a huge indoor fireplace for the winter getaways and a huge undercover outdoor braai with dinner table and chairs. We brought board games, cards and puzzles and had endless laughs around the table.
If I absolutely had to moan about something, it would be the pressure of the shower. It is very low and soft - but! ....honestly we were swimming so much it really wasn't a big thing. I just can't think of anything else that was a negative :-)
The wood fire hot tub outside is a super bonus!
We will definitely be back!

What a surprise awaited us.
What a surprise awaited us. This town has a very warm and relaxed atmosphere and we didn't plan long enough to stay and explore all that it has to offer. A one night stop over was not enough. Colonial and Dutch influences in the architecture and a lovely selection of shops and restaurants and places of historical interest, which we simply didn't have time to see, but will be back to explore.

The TV did not work.
The TV did not work. When we checked it was broken and it looked like the lady hosting us knew about it but did not care to mention that. When we call about this TV not working at night she said I quote "Just press all the buttons until something happens sir" we were shocked! In the morning her apology for this also did not sound sincere as you could tell she was well aware that it does not work. Went to the bathroom at night and when switching on the light the electricity blew and the whole place did not have lights for the rest of the night. When we mentioned this in the morning it was a known issue and they blamed load shedding for it.
My partner was looking forward to swimming the pool was GREEN! and quite clearly not been maintained for years. It is nothing like what you see on the listing, you would be scared to even stick a finger in it. It's the type of dirt that you can't see at the bottom of it. We asked for the bicycles they said we could use on the listing and there were only two bicycles, the one had a flat tire so we couldn't use it. The other one that we had to share was not maintained well and also had a chain locking the whole time. We were just shocked that there are only two bicycles available for guests.
The Restaurant on the other hand was a pleasant experience. The gentleman hosting is very friendly and authentic it's amazing. The food is value for money as well. Had one of the most amazing meals the free breakfast is also good value and a proper meal. Wifi good and the music is lovely and the place all together has nice indoor and outdoor calming seating. We could come back for the dining experience it was exceptional. My partner and I spent the week talking about how calm and authentic the gentlemen hosting us were. He was just an exceptional experience I can't stress enough.
In summary, we would come back to dine definitely!. But to sleep No, don't see how they justify the cost for it as well.

In the past I always just passed Swellendam on my way to another destination. This time I spent three days and what a beautiful historical town it is, surrounded by the Langeberg mountains. Friendly people and excellent food especially De Vagebond restaurant where we also had the opportunity to watch the rugby during loadshedding and experienced the lovely Ostrich meat dishes!
Comfortable room, in lovely gardens and with a beautiful swimming pool, which my wife was glad to use after a long drive. The hotel was close to good restaurants and cafes, and other local shops, all within walking distance. The owner booked us a table at an excellent restaurant nearby for dinner. Breakfast was very good and more than adequate. And we were able to park just outside our room. We stayed for just one night, and wished it could have been longer. We would happily stay here if we return to Swellendam.
This self catering house has everything you need for a comfortable stay.
The house is well maintained with a private swimming pool and braai area.
We were kept up to date before arrival on anything we needed to know.
They had an issue with some of the plugs and stove tripping, but we were quickly sorted out with a complementory
lunch, and a new counter top plate for cooking by the next morning. Very good service, with friendly people.
Our two days at Brackenhills was not long enough. We LOVED everything about it. The mountain scenery is unbelievably beautiful, the accommodation is charming and so comfortable. The outdoor kitchen and dining area was an absolute hit as was our outdoor bathroom. The hosts, Andrew, Hilary and Sasha, are so welcoming and warm. This stay was the highlight of our Dec / Jan road trip. We will definitely be back soon.
Wonderful hotel in a 200 year old Dutch farm. Beautiful surroundings, very tasteful furnishings and a relaxing atmosphere. We had a fantastic room/suite all by ourselves, which was absolutely magnificent and extremely comfortable. Wonderful breakfast with a chef who prepares the most delicious food. This place will make you relax and lose all stress and thoughts of home… Absolute tóp hotel!
It's a lovely spacious house. Everything is clean. There is a little playground outside for the kids. Also a fairly equipped kitchen and a little braai area just outside. So very family oriented. Especially if you are looking for a safe space for kids. Situated in a lovely little farm, that's also safe for the kids. Our host was friendly and accommodating.
Beautiful and Amazing Farm Experience.
The house is well equipped, very Spacious, Exceptionally clean, Stunning views and location was perfect and safe.
Nice indoor barbecue with table tennis and pool table to relax after a tough day out on the Around the Pot MTB's...
The host has been fantastic. Thank you Sonja ! Absolutely recommendable !
*The setting is very pretty and peaceful, and it's only a short drive to Swellendam.
*The lodge itself was large and very spacious (and would be lovely if it had been properly cleaned and maintained).
*A braai and plenty of wood/fire lighters were provided.
*A simple breakfast was included.
*The bed was large and comfortable.
We loved the quirky little hoenderhok huisie. Great value for money. Everything we needed for a stop over from the Eastern Cape on our way to the Western Cape. Host gave us a warm welcome. Rustic but sparkling clean. Equipped for self catering. Spectacular views to the mountains and real farm experience for the kids.
I recently needed to stay in Swellendam and my daughter booked me into Arumvale, my first visit. George met me and booked me in- an outstanding host!
The accommodation is great and the views over the farm into the mountains are spectacular!
Arumvale is now top of my list for Swellendam!
Great location in the heart of Swellendam, clean, and if it had been summer, a nice pool area. The staff were friendly.
We weren't too pleased with the arrangement of the rooms, but then, the price was very good, so we didn't feel hard done by.
the Hotel is one of its kind, old and classic in a nice way.
It was on our honeymoon and we had to make a stop in this lovely town during a trip through the garden route. my wife and I loved the experience, and had a pleasant stay.
The animals just walking by is absolutely fantastic. Very chill farm, very nice experience. Beds are also fine. Safe fence.
All the bbq equipment is there already, very thoughtful.
For us it was a great warmup for our safari days
Excellently clean,situated in nature,farm life
Communal kitchen all you need.Fridge in room.Premises clean and neat.deck back and front with scenic nature views.good value for money compare to other places in Swellendam
An exceptional and well maintained guesthouse, with an exceptional service minded staff and an excellent chef. Swellendam and the surrounding areas have much to offer any kind of visitors. A place to return to.
Breakast was delicious and served with so much love outside in their garden paradise.
The kids also loved the pool, we appreciated very much the entire outside area and the surroundings.
The owner was very friendly and helped with many recommendations in the area. She picked up all our messages. The house was well equipped. The view was very nice.
The guesthouse and grounds are beautiful and well located in Swellendam. We enjoyed our breakfast each morning. We appreciated the complimentary car wash.
