The staff very friendly, helpful and waited till 8 pm. The house very spacious, however needs renovation or at least very good deep cleaning.

We just LOVE Somerset Gift! We stayed in Fish Eagle.
We just LOVE Somerset Gift! We stayed in Fish Eagle. From the view and facilities to the helpfulness of the farm mangeress, Tanya, everything was lovely. Tanya went out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable and gave us all a very warm welcome (including the fur kids!). There are beautiful waterfalls and rockpools that you can hike to and there is also a river and a dam with kayaks.
There is a huge indoor fireplace for the winter getaways and a huge undercover outdoor braai with dinner table and chairs. We brought board games, cards and puzzles and had endless laughs around the table.
If I absolutely had to moan about something, it would be the pressure of the shower. It is very low and soft - but! ....honestly we were swimming so much it really wasn't a big thing. I just can't think of anything else that was a negative :-)
The wood fire hot tub outside is a super bonus!
We will definitely be back!

What a surprise awaited us.
What a surprise awaited us. This town has a very warm and relaxed atmosphere and we didn't plan long enough to stay and explore all that it has to offer. A one night stop over was not enough. Colonial and Dutch influences in the architecture and a lovely selection of shops and restaurants and places of historical interest, which we simply didn't have time to see, but will be back to explore.

People are extremely friendly. We had an awesome time, always love visiting Swellendam. All the restaurants are of excellent quality, and you can browse in the small shops. I walked to the Mall, and felt very safe

The TV did not work.
The TV did not work. When we checked it was broken and it looked like the lady hosting us knew about it but did not care to mention that. When we call about this TV not working at night she said I quote "Just press all the buttons until something happens sir" we were shocked! In the morning her apology for this also did not sound sincere as you could tell she was well aware that it does not work. Went to the bathroom at night and when switching on the light the electricity blew and the whole place did not have lights for the rest of the night. When we mentioned this in the morning it was a known issue and they blamed load shedding for it.
My partner was looking forward to swimming the pool was GREEN! and quite clearly not been maintained for years. It is nothing like what you see on the listing, you would be scared to even stick a finger in it. It's the type of dirt that you can't see at the bottom of it. We asked for the bicycles they said we could use on the listing and there were only two bicycles, the one had a flat tire so we couldn't use it. The other one that we had to share was not maintained well and also had a chain locking the whole time. We were just shocked that there are only two bicycles available for guests.
The Restaurant on the other hand was a pleasant experience. The gentleman hosting is very friendly and authentic it's amazing. The food is value for money as well. Had one of the most amazing meals the free breakfast is also good value and a proper meal. Wifi good and the music is lovely and the place all together has nice indoor and outdoor calming seating. We could come back for the dining experience it was exceptional. My partner and I spent the week talking about how calm and authentic the gentlemen hosting us were. He was just an exceptional experience I can't stress enough.
In summary, we would come back to dine definitely!. But to sleep No, don't see how they justify the cost for it as well.

In the past I always just passed Swellendam on my way to another destination. This time I spent three days and what a beautiful historical town it is, surrounded by the Langeberg mountains. Friendly people and excellent food especially De Vagebond restaurant where we also had the opportunity to watch the rugby during loadshedding and experienced the lovely Ostrich meat dishes!
Comfortable room, in lovely gardens and with a beautiful swimming pool, which my wife was glad to use after a long drive. The hotel was close to good restaurants and cafes, and other local shops, all within walking distance. The owner booked us a table at an excellent restaurant nearby for dinner. Breakfast was very good and more than adequate. And we were able to park just outside our room. We stayed for just one night, and wished it could have been longer. We would happily stay here if we return to Swellendam.
At our arrival we were welcomed by the extremely hospitable and friendly owners, who advised us very kindly about the local restaurants and activities in the area.
The room is very spaceous and has great facilities.
With a pool and great garden, the lodge is a perfect accomodation for a relaxing stay
The breakfast with fresh fruits and local products was also very good.
We would highly recommend the Swellendam Country lodge as the ideal accommodation during your Garden Route trip.
What an amazing experience at an awesome place! Surrounded by a breathtaking view of the farm and pool area. Love that there's activities indoors to keep busy. From the bathrooms to beds so comfy, wonderful. I can go on and on. The Manor house is even better than the pictures posted on this site of the place.Definitely returning and definitely worth that gravel road! Thank you so much for having us. What a friendly person Sonja is. All the best
Our two days at Brackenhills was not long enough. We LOVED everything about it. The mountain scenery is unbelievably beautiful, the accommodation is charming and so comfortable. The outdoor kitchen and dining area was an absolute hit as was our outdoor bathroom. The hosts, Andrew, Hilary and Sasha, are so welcoming and warm. This stay was the highlight of our Dec / Jan road trip. We will definitely be back soon.
We had a lovely stay in the separate chalet, which had its own kitchen and living room so we could make our own private dinner (Checkers just down the road.) We had a baby cot provided for us which made life easier. The swimming pool was great for a dip in the morning. The owners were very welcoming, friendly and put on a great breakfast. If we come to Swellendam again we will stay here.
The host was extremely responsive and prompt to reply when we had questions or concerns. She even walked over when we arrived to ensure that we made it to the right house, which can be tricky to find with gps. The farmhouse is a sweet rustic construction, with pretty much everything our family needed for a comfortable stay. Perfect stopping point between Cape Town and the garden route.
Lovely setting alongside the river in a very quiet area. Very comfortable rooms set in a beautiful Zen Garden. No breakfast service but they did provide an excellent choice of food for a self catering breakfast. The hostess was very pleasant and helpful making Restaurant booking and making a great recommendation when it turned out our first choice was full
Perfect stay.
We only stayed one night, but the staff and the guest house made it a perfect experience. We thought, Swellendam was only a „passing through“ city, but the hotel is actually so nice, it makes sense to stay longer and discover the area a bit. Staff was very welcoming and supportive to our family of four.
The host Etienne was the best. He explained us all about the history of Swellendam and the area and had lots of great tips for travelling in the area and the wine lands. We definitely recommend people to go here. Also lovely pool area in super nice surroundings.
Nice location, quite at the top area of Swellendam. Spacy sleeping rooms. The entire appartment was clean and well equipped. There is a swimming pool you can use parking space next to reception. Load shedding is happining but this is all over ZA.
The small game farm is conveniently located and has 3 lovely cottages located within the game area giving you close contact with the animals. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room we had also had all that we needed.
From parting the stunning daybreak mist on the Breëde River surface to anchoring in paradise where the birdsong and sound of raising fish fill your houseboat cabin once dusk peacefully descends – a must for tired souls!
One of those places where you wish you would have stayed longer. Excellent breakfast and nice staff. Swellendam is well worth a visit and the guesthouse is well located in a calm area with beautiful views.
Alison is an incredible host and went out of her way to make everything perfect for us. The old Victorian house has been renovated beautifully and the pool area is wonderful. Breakfasts are exceptional.
Amazing experience. Breathe taking views and comfortable self catering accommodation. Hike on Swellendam trail was such a treat. Lily thee dog was such a sweetheart.
Room was very clean with all the facilities we needed. We really enjoyed relaxing on the swimming pool deck and on the river bank, very peaceful and beautiful.
