You do not need a hire car if you are in the centre, Finikoudes or Piyale Pasha areas. Perhaps the most beautiful city in Cyprus, with a long beach promenade, many and varied restaurants and taverns, everything is in one place in the center and within walking distance, there is public transport from the airport to the city center and back. Larnaca is a working town rather than an out and out tourist resort, although it has all the facilities that tourists need. This means that it is good for out of season visits. With its international airport the city is a good starting...
With its international airport the city is a good starting point for either sightseeing or beach leisure for the entire island. If you rent a car you could visit all the archeological sites that are very interesting or find nice beaches to the west (140-150 km) or to the east (50-60 km). The capital Nicosia is also close at about 45 to the north) and the old town is worth visiting. We found some nice restaurants in Larnaka and generally enjoyed our stay.
