Nicosia is just a capital city, dividing the Republic of Cyprus from the occupied area. We stayed there purely for a meeting early rather than drive for over 2 hours. The area of the hotel is pedestrianised so there is not an issue with traffic noise.
If you visit Cyprus then you should visit Nikozija. The divided city is quite interesting and I recommend crossing to the other side as well. On the other hand, there isn't that much to see. Just strolling around the narrow streets is the most interesting part. The city changes quickly from modern buildings to modern or old ruins and abandoned houses which look as if they will collapse in just one street, not neighborhoods. A very unusual mix of houses and styles. One thing to note - the city smells so good, like spices or something, where ever you good and it's very nice.
This cosy penthouse apartment is on the 4th floor, which means 85 steps up, but once up, we had magnificent views over the old town and mountains to the north, and the moat and new city to the south. The property is located within easy walking distance of the twice-weekly market (on the bastion to the east), to Eleftheria square and the old town, and to the main Solomou bus station. We always enjoy walking along the old walls, through the new moat (designed by Zaha Hadid), the walk through the park and along the riverside (13km in total). Lots of good places to eat. Lots of buses around the city, and intercity.
There are few places that can merge the old with the new in one single city so successfully. Nicosia is one of these cities. With short walking distances to visit muliple sites and being very safe even for lone travellers, it is ideal if you want to see and taste a lot in few days.
This is very unique place that demands a lot of attention. Definitely best to visit with a local who knows well Cyprus history and can show you places. Near Ledra street there are nice hip bars and local craft stores which is great alternative for generic tourist business. It is better to stay near the most interesting locations for you - city isn't pedestrian friendly and has a public transport, but it's quite whimsical (I spent some money on taxis and rode a bike a lot to compensate for the long distance from my hotel). The locals are superfriendly - it's worth to get into the interaction with them and ask them for help or suggestions, they are very kind and happy to acommodate you. At least moderate level of English is common there, which makes sightseeing supereasy.
It's a strange place with partly derelict buildings next to shiny new ones. Small streets with no lighting right next to main streets. Easy to navigate and lots of great options for eating and drinking out though!
Possibly the best accommodation in downtown Nicosia in every respect. Location, historical importance, close to tens of takeaways and restaurants, pubs and cafés as well as shops. The hosts were always there when we needed to ask them questions either about the property or queries we had a Bouch Nicosia in general. Highly recommended. Will come back again for sure. Thank you
The staff members were extremely nice, friendly and helpful. The hotel is in the center of the old town. Still our room on the 3rd floor was very quiet. Everything was very clean. I appreciated the pure oats at the breakfast buffet (In most hotels they just offer highly sugared and proceeded cereal versions). We got more than expected for a 2 star hotel.
Nicosia
Hotel prices have jumped in Cyprus, so this was a good option. Flat is within walking distance of Old City, there are good public transport options nearby, ie intercity buses on Makarios street bus stop and local buses from Kennedy and other nearby bus stops. George is a good host. Two good supermarkets nearby, lots of food and restaurant options nearby.
The apartment is roomy, spotless clean and well distributed, with a balcony that has a nice view of Nicosia. The area is very, very quiet yet within walking distance of the walled city, which was the purpose of my trip. Very fast internet and comfy bed, fully equipped! Also, Marios was very responsive and attentive all the time!
Perfect location for staying in Nicosia. There are major tourist attractions nearby, as well as the convenience and grocery stores. Views on both sides of the city are amazing. The host is super friendly and thoughtful, always ready to help. Definitely would recommend
The staff was wonderful and very helpful! They gave us a free upgrade and answered all our questions. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were spacious. Also a cute balcony! It had everything any other hotel would, at a better price! Highly recommend.
A breakfast was standart with english breakfast and toasts. The hotel places in good location. It's not far from the city centre and restaurants, shops and main roads. A hotel has a good underground parking. The room was cozy and clear.
Everything! Excellent staff, so friendly and helpful. Fantastic room, cool details, fantastic bed and the shower capsule system was wonderful. Can’t say enough about the breakfast. One of the best I’ve had in a hotel anywhere!
This is a great hotel to stay if you want to be close to the city centre and the relevant sightseeing. Staff was super friendly and there to help with health problems that arose during my stay in Cyprus.
