Delightful hotel with an owner who really cares about his guests. He greeted me when he saw me in the lounge and we had a number of conversations afterwards. We thoroughly enjoyed the young man who played in the bar on the night that we were there, Thursday. It resulted in us chatting to other guests as well.

We had a lovely quiet family room for 3 which was perfect for us. We had a quick dip in the heated outdoor hot tub which was fun and an exquisite dinner at Mez karoo kitchen in Barrydale. Had a good sleep and were greeted by a friendly cat and dog in the morning.

Uwe and Carol have lovingly cultivated the amazing museum of a house, as well as gorgeous gardens. You could sit on the veranda all day. A short walk to first class restaurant (Mez) and friendly staffed shops. The Africa room has a great private terrace and direct access to two porches. We loved the magpies - and wished the Magpie art gallery had been open when we were there.

Comfortable and perfect for our small family. The design and attention to detail makes it a really unique and fun place to stay!! The owner was easily contactable for self check-in and very helpful with dinner suggestions. Then having a killer breakfast and amazing milkshakes right next door at Diesel and Creme - who could ask for more!

A beautiful town with so much to explore.
A beautiful town with so much to explore. For tourists s longer stay is advisable to see everything this lovely place has to offer. But it also offers perfect overnight stops when passing through. We recommend Barrydale Karoo Lodge. With an in-house pub and restaurant, you need nothing more.

Barrydale is a small town with a lot of potential. Wonderful artistic shops and drop in eateries. Amazing 2nd hand bookshop - new books also available - I couldn't leave!! Close to Warmwaterberg - a must for a visit, not far from Swellendam and Witsand - beautiful beach. Lovely walks in the hills around the village.

It is lovely, safe and quiet.
It is lovely, safe and quiet. Most of the restaurants close at 5pm, so don't expect to eat out at a nice restaurant. Fortunately the guest house we were staying at was spacious and comfortable, and so we made a plan to buy our own food and eat in. But seriously, going out to eat should be an option.

One of the highlights was the sense of peace and tranquillity we felt in this authentic ‘dorp’. The solitude of the town provided a serene backdrop, making our stay truly magical.
Exploring the town and its surroundings was a delightful adventure. Quaint local shops, friendly faces, and the simplicity of life in the Karoo made our stay truly authentic. My list of mandatory places to visit would be Diesel and Crème for their out-of-this-world milkshakes, The House of Books (a paradise for any bibliophile), The Karoo Art Hotel for coffee or a gin and the gorgeous décor and coffee shop ‘Die Langhuis’
This gem on the border of the Karoo has the potential to become an even more coveted destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat in this unique South African landscape.
In summary, our time in this small town was a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of big city life.
This is our 4th visit to the Karoo Moon Hotel and we were not disappointed. We love the quirkiness of the rooms, love the bathroom size and layout, the large and comfy bed and comfy lounge and living area. We had more than enough wood to burn a fire for both nights we were there. Coffee pod machine is always appreciated with the strong wifi.
Walking distance to all the restaurants and pubs in town makes it a convenient stop over venue. The host (Dean) was on hand to recommend local spots for the rugby and restaurants to consider.
It was quaint, elegant, arty. The food was good for a small town hotel.( some out of stock) Staff could have been slightly more visible in inside and outside dining areas( often had to go looking for them)I liked the fires. I liked the bar.I liked the books made available to read.I liked the music. The coffee was good ( super important)The savoury scones were very good.
I can’t say enough good things about this gem of a place. The decor, attention to detail, and general vibe of the Karoo Moon House was incredible. It was a real shame we couldn’t stay longer - it would have been a perfect long weekend. We also really appreciated the little extras that were provided in the house. We would come back to Barrydale just to stay here!
The friendliness of the hostess was lovely. The scenery was outstanding. What was really wonderful was the restaurant and the pleasure of having breakfast which was amazing by the way, on a wood deck overlooking a dam teeming with bird life and watching weaver birds building their nests.
The evening braai was in a great peaceful area just outside the cottage.
We liked literally everything about Sanbona. Gorgeous place with spacious guest apartments. The service is out of this world. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. The rangers were knowledgeable and fun. Food was delicious and they even accommodate gluten and lactose intolerance and allergies.
Such a charming cottage.
It’s small - only suitable for a couple or close friends who are happy to share a bed (but from memory they do say this) but TOTALLY charming.
Beautiful decor and a lovely swimming pool (that you share with the hosts) and a perfect base to explore Barrydale.
Beautifully decorated home and garden. Our host, Uwe, was so friendly and helpful with restaurant recommendations and information about Barrydale. We loved the homemade bread offered for breakfast. This is truly a classy place in Rural South Africa.
Delightfully quirky hotel with intriguing artwork covering all the walls, bedrooms all individually decorated in extraordinary ways. Excellent place to stay the night on the way between Franschhoek and George. Staff all very friendly.
We loved the quirky decor, the privacy as well the eccentric vibe
very well positioned for a walk to the local Restaurants as well the fabulous Karoo Hotels and your private most amazing bonfire!
Beautiful and peaceful house in the special town Barrydale. In between the hills, with the nicest hosts and delicious breakfast! The homemade bread is amazing! Great tips for the visitors as well!
Clean and neat, spacious facilities, convenient safe parking with a generator that ensured that we had electricity all the time while the rest of Barrydale suffered from severe load shedding
Plaas Wegbreek is a lovely farm hidden away from everything just outside of Barrydale. Filled with fruit trees and a gorgeous mountain view, it is quite the experience to stay there!
Very comfortable stay. Nicola was a very accommodating host and provided a very tasty continental breakfast from home made produce. Also well positioned for exploring Barrydale.
The location was great. So easy to find and close to the road. Barrydale is so pretty. There is much to see and cute little restaurants and cafés to visit and enjoy.
the owner is just amazing, what a lovely lady, stunning house, great location, she even booked us in at a great restaurant so that was a great service.
