I have been to Nepal several times but it was my first time at Thagu Chhen. It has exceeding my expectations and provides an excellent value. Besides, the location is prime and the staff are excellent. And as anyone who has been to Nepal will tell you, traditional Nepalese hospitality reigns supreme. Imagine stepping into a living museum... Thagu Chhen is nestled in the heart of Bhaktapur, and its architecture tells tales of centuries past. The ambiance bridges the old and the new: each room is styled with traditional Nepalese and Buddhist themes, a nod to the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Here, you’re not just a room number. From the moment you arrive, they’ll know your name. Need a wake-up call for that early business meeting? Done. Craving a cup of masala chai? Consider it delivered. It is a home away from home. The staff are willing and happy to cater to your every need. They’ll make your stay memorable, whether it’s arranging a tour or sharing local legends. If you’re here for work, Thagu Chhen seamlessly blends business amenities with cultural immersion. High-speed Wi-Fi keeps you connected, while the ancient courtyards inspires creativity.
This trip has been a perfect balance of business and pleasure and Thagu Chhen has been a big part of it. I highly recommend a stay at Thagu Chhen. You will come back for more.

I have been traveling a lot in my life, but I never saw such a beautiful city. Eventhough, the dramatical earthquake , all the buildings and temples have been fixed with the old materiel.
Walking by night in Bhaktapur in those small street is like to be in the middle age. Bhaktapur is a travel through the time.

Nice place to stay for a couple of hours.
Nice place to stay for a couple of hours. If someone like spiritual places, definitely the right location. A lot of places are still under construction, since the earthquake, so the 55th window palace was closed.

Bhaktapur is still recovering from the 2015 earthquake which created havoc with the local historic buildings. However, much has been done though. The place is doing it's best to get back into a reasonable position however COVID has taken its toll on the local industry and tourist venues (small shops and traders as well as the restaurants and hotels - a large number of which were closed when I visited.)
I have visited many times and it still retains a special charm - photographic opportunities are always present, whether the buildings, the people or the views of the mountains - still is a magical place.
Oh, (like other places in Nepal) the people are so friendly - they stop and ask if you need help but just want to be helpful, with no pushy sales pitch or offering of a ride to other local attractions.

The best part is always its food.
The best part is always its food. I just can't stop myself from eating Newari khaja set( Newari cultural food) and juju dhau ( special curd ) . Also, this time they had the facility of boating in Siddha Pokhari and it was a lot of fun paddling oneself.

One of the best places of Kathmandu.
One of the best places of Kathmandu. You will definitely want to stay longer than your original intend. We extended our stay there for 2 extra nights (4 nights in total) People are friendly, the old city is very beautiful. (If you intend to stay more than 1 night, be careful to ask to write down your passport number on your entrance ticket to the old city, otherwise you will have to pay the entrance multiple times..)

A number of attractions in old town well worth seeing.
A number of attractions in old town well worth seeing. Some earthquake damage has spoilt a few though. Some restaurants overpriced and over rated in certain guides. Typical of many places all over the world though. Short walks outside old town worth the effort. Out passed Ram Ghat to hill top gives good view of Himalayas, for instance and chance to see more local people untouched by tourism.
Very good location in Bhaktapur right next to the pottery square in the old town center (NPR 1‘800 per person for the entrance, valid for 7 days).
Luggage storage for free available when you want to do some trekking around Namo Buddha.
Friendly and helpful owner that also have a souvenir shop right next to the hotel. They help you with the local busses etc.
Card payment accepted without any commission.
Breakfast (pancake, yoghurt, banana and tea) available for 350 NPR per person, but you can also take in the in the cafe at the potters square
Everything! The location is perfect, just 1 minute walk from Durbar square. Around the hotel there are plenty of coffee shops and restaurants. The hotel is newly and traditionally furnished. The staff is truly amazing! The owner and his wife are very kind people who help us with everything, including organising a taxi to go back to KTM at the end of our stay. They also made yomari for breakfast during a national festival!
Highly recommended hotel in Bhaktapur.
Very cosy and comfy room, clean and with a nice view.
Everything functional (power, bathroom...), very well located 2min walk from durbar square and surrounding streets!
The owners are very kind and welcoming
As they haven't recovered activity level from covid years however, there is limited food options available at the guesthouse, but breakfast was good and there are plenty of options (touristy or more local) around in Bhaktapur
- easily the best accommodation of our trip
- stunning location with beautiful views from our room
- very friendly, attentive and helpful staff
- very quiet (although that might be different when the hotel is fully booked)
- very nice room with large, comfy beds. Lots of space for our stuff.
- brilliant restaurant with excellent Italian and very good Nepalese cuisine
- excellent breakfast with a huge selection
The Hotel was very near to the Durbar area. The ambience was very nice . We enjoyed the owners hospitality. The staff were very friendly. The owner also helped us by sending taxi to the airport during midnight. As we were very late when we arrived at the airport. Rooms were very clean. I suggest everyone to have at least one day of stay in this hotel when visiting Bhaktapur. Lovely Place.
Staff was very welcoming and even included us in a celebration of the house god during our stay. Very good Nepali (and alright western) breakfast was offered. The rooms were very clean, had hot water and even a kettle. The hotel has the perfect location very centrally in Bhaktapur and all mayor attractions can be reached on foot. We stayed two nights longer than planned :)
Hotel Rupakot was awesome! The hotel is right next to Durbar Square and everything is nearby. The brothers were extremely friendly and took care of every detail. The bed was comfortable, nice hot shower, the rooftop is great and the food was very good. They also set us up with a car transport to Nagarkot. Highly recommend!
Ganesh and his family are excellent hosts. They go far and beyond to make your stay comfortable. The house is located inside old Bhaktapur close to one of four main squares but in a quiet neighborhood. We had a great cooking class. The facilities are very comfortable. Great value for the money.
In value-for-money ratio it's a very nice place to stay. The host runs a hotel for the first time and makes every wish come true. The hotel is just 30 seconds by foot to Durbar Square (temples, golden gate, palasts) and 5 minutes walk to Taumadhi Square (cafés, temples) and Pottery Square.
the hotel is near to the square and walking distance, near to restaurants also, hotel set up or design is like traditional house you feel like your stay a nepali house before, staff are friendly, the back our breakfast at night as we requested coz we leave early...
Hotel staff was extremely friendly, flexible (allowed us to check out way way way after the original checkout time) and chill, facilities were great and functioning, environment was extremely cosy, rooftop offers a breathtaking view of Durbar Square.
Hotel Layaku Durban is a gem and I highly recommend it. It is clean, quiet, consistent hot water, rooftop restaurant and only 2 minutes from Durbar Square. The owner and staff are very welcoming and can advise you on any question.
The staff is super helpful and honest. They recommend you the best places and do not try to take money from you. The hotel is also very clean and in a good location. The breakfast was very delicious aswell. Definetly recommend!
The staff is incredible helpful and nice, always ready to give advice and help.
Breakfast on the roof top is grate and the view amazing. I strongly recommend this new hotel just next to Durbar square
Both the the breakfast and the location were excellent. Close to Durbar Square and in the quieter part of town. Hotel staff were very aware and made my stay an extremely enjoyable experience.
