Amazing mountains but hiking is not well established and they try to keep tourists to a couple of specific spots. I think some mountains are off limits due to military but with some modern and professional tourism development, the potential to unlock these impressive mountains and forests is amazing.
I loved being on the island and was hit hard by what I saw in the museum and historical prisons. Definitely worth checking out.
I would have to say that the beaches are average and if you're an explorer looking for isolated little bays etc., you'll find some beautiful places decorated with all sorts of plastic ranging in colour and age.
When i go there again - which I will in better weather - I will get out on the water and find places to go diving and island hopping.
A really nice place with lots of "potential" if developed properly. I'll be back as there is plenty to explore...

Very peaceful and quiet island with lovely beaches.
Very peaceful and quiet island with lovely beaches. The snorkeling was okay but as the ocean was quite rough we had to go to different islands than the ones recommended. Maybe the other islands would have been more impressive. Most of the restaurants were seafood with huge tanks full of live fish etc....not really our thing. We discovered Bar 200 and Ula Cafe. Both had great food and happy friendly staff.

Very small island, better rent a motorbike, but many small taxi,
Very good beach and seaside, no traffic. It's a good place to relax.
It's a very important place for Vietnamese people, for Vietnam History.
The museum and the prison must to be visited and Vo Thi Sau grave.

The main warning: do NOT use ferry boat to go there.
The main warning: do NOT use ferry boat to go there. It is 4-4.5 hours of vomiting for entire boat. 7/9 right next to me were vomiting. Sorry for starting from such a nasty details, but you should be aware of it :)
This island is very different from the rest of Vietnam, because comparing with the rest of Vietnam it is nearly empty :) And that's awesome! Road traffic is very low.
At the same time I had a feeling that entire island is targeting local customers, who came to visit prison, to respect memory of their relatives, who passed away there. Because of that, huge amount of shops are selling stuff for bringing it to tomb or church.
As a consequence of point above, it is very-very difficult to find non-local food. I would say 99% places offer only local food.
Another consequence is that noise from locals in night and early morning time (starting from 4-5 am when they wake up): karaoke, just shouting on the street, shouting behind your door in hotel, etc., etc.
Make sure you have earplugs, though they not always help.
I think the best you can do on this island is to rent motorbike and explore it yourself. There are quite some places with really amazing view! And not crowded. Again, it is unbelievable for Vietnam :) If you are in diving, most probably you can do it there as well.

The historical prison, the one thing we were looking forward to seeing on this island was closed. The beaches and nature trails are so beautiful, but the island seems a bit soul less. a few beach bars or restaurants that play live music would be so nice.

Great hotels with friendly and professional staff.
Great hotels with friendly and professional staff. Some of the best service in Vietnam. Incredible scenery. The water is crystal clear. Getting around the island was easy. Taxis were reasonably priced and driving around on a rented motorbike was fun. The highlight for me was visiting the grave of Vo Thi Sau at dusk. It was a very special experience. Also, do yourself a favor and go to the Beach House restaurant. Its run by talented people and I almost stayed an extra day just to eat there one more time. Finally, the helicopter ride back to Vung Tau was great. Well worth the money. No major complaints but there aren't too many accessible beaches on the island so I wish I had spent more time at Dam Trau Beach near the airport. I also wish I had prepared better for the nature walk in the national park. Next time, I'll bring my own snorkel gear and hiking shoes. Also, the island is full of dogs and a few noisy people which makes it hard to get a good night's sleep. Otherwise, it's well worth a visit. Unfortunately, the Vung Tau Ferry only runs once a week which makes it pretty useless, especially when their staff don't bother to update the schedule. I'm not sure what's going on there.
Uyen’s House located in the center of the town, most places are in walking distance (museums, prisons, Lo Voi beach and Con Dao market, etc)
Easy to access cafes and eateries around the area.
Ms Thu and her associate are very friendly and helpful.
We’ve got a Standard Bedroom for 2 people with all essential facilities and amenities equipped. Not to mention the homestay has lots of plants and old books, which creates such comfort feelings for me. I’d definitely choose Uyen House again if we come back to Con Dao.
Outstanding confort ! amazing people with large smile and so helpful... We stayed 1 week on Con Dao, at Kim's Garden, if we would stayed 2 weeks if we could!
Kim was so kind with us, she helped us gratefully whenever we needed some advice to hike on the island! We were so lucky to have a meal with her and family... her grand mother is a very good chef ! <3
Outside of the town, we really appreciated the quiet place.
Good luck to Kim and her team, we love you !

Hosts are amazing! I received all information considering snorkelling that I need what made my stay unforgettable.
If you like contact with nature and sleeping in tent you can’t find better place than this one. Close to this place are the best restaurants at the Island serving Vietnamese, Korean and European food. Also 5 minutes from tents you can find really good coconut ice creams!
I had a great time here! Additionally you can rent scooter from hosts what made my stay really convenient.
We had a 5 night stay on the Island.
Eden coffee house is away from the main town and is surrounded by all the local life and some lovely big trees.
Trinh and Hai make this the best place to stay as they are super helpful and so friendly.
Good scooter rental and a very easy place to get around, with all their suggestions. Some beautiful
unspoilt beaches.Great snorkelling trip, arranged by Trinh.
Lovely food and big portions.
Missing the fruit bowl!
The hotel was located in the center of the city, the breakfast was delicious, the kindness of all the staff was excellent, and the water in the swimming pool was very clear and clean. In addition, the motorbike rental service in front of the hotel was also very friendly and convenient. If I have a chance to go to Con Dao in the future, I will stay at the Secret Con Dao Hotel again.
Uyen has a really nice and cozy place! We enjoyed our time in our stylish double room. The food was also delicious. Uyen is super friendly and helps with everything. She rented us a Scooter and organized a transport to the airport. At our last day in Con Dao, we could even take a shower after the beach although we already checked out. I can definitely recommend this place!
hotel is very nice, vintage style, staff is friendly, hotel have the opened space for group Party at nite, you can buy seafood at reception, or Con Dao Market and the Chef of De Condor cook for you, fresh sea food, only 2 Point, 3 floor hotel not have Elevator, the location take 7minutes by bike to the Town. All is excellence
The hosts are amazing! Trinh and Hai made our stay comfortable and fun. We were a group of nine, two families traveling together and the hosts looked after us wonderfully. We couldn’t ask for more!
Eden house is also probably the cleanest place on the island. The hosts have a high standard of tidiness.
Amenity place, helpful and friendly hotelier.
Distance from homestay is only far when we compare with others in center. However, the island is small so the distance is not really far, 4-5m with a motobike. A motobike is neccessary to be able to discover the island.
Brand new hotel with high ceilings, lovely garden and. Mountain view out of my window! Lovely family with a lovely dog. Scooter rental was easy and cheap! Very close to the city center
If i go to the island again i would like to stay with them again
The hotel is very nice and comfortable, located in the center close by to the beach and main attractions on the island.
We rented a scooter as well and it was well maintained and smooth ride.
The owner was very cooperative and responsive.
We had a great 11 night stay! We looked and looked however you cannot go past this beach location!!! Get in now!!! Staff exceptional! Rooms are great! Pay the extra for beach as well worth it!! Best place in con Dao island!!!
The place is central located within walking distance of everything. The woman running the hotel also runs a market downstairs making it convenient to grab whatever you need. She is very nice and helpful.
Cute bungalows in a green setting. Scooter hire onsite. Privacy. The staff were nice and helpful with any requests even though we didn't speak any Vietnamese. Airport transfers available.
Best breakfast we had in Vietnam, the staff were so attentive to ensure we had everything we needed. Really good quality for the price. Rooms spotlessly clean and beds very comfortable
Location 2km from town. 4aud taxi fare, scooter for hire. Staff friendly. No lift, if you’re on the 3rd floor 🙃 very tranquil village. Beds are typical rock hard vietnamese beds.
Hotel has nice decor. Excellent breakfast with many options and tasty food. Quite good location so you can walk to the Con Dao's central area. Friendly and supportive staff
