Studio was quite big, with private patio space outside. Kitchen well-equipped, there's seating area and overall feels more like apartment.

Welcoming host who gave us advice on local dining.

The beach access, wild and rugged, easily accessible along the coast. If you into photography plenty of opportunities for great photos or painting. The kids loved the glow worms, it was not a big walk to view them - 20 meters of the roadside and free, you are able to make a donation at start of the trail for maintenance and upkeep of track, which would be wheelchair accessible. We went to the local picture theatre, seating and service very good. The glass blowing is amazing to watch, the kids and adults were quite intrigued. Shanty town was a great day trip, riding the train, learning early history of the coast - the best scones and coffee in the cafe, coming back to our base in Hokitika. If you are planning to dine in Hokitika then I would advise you book on arrival if you are spending a couple of days, if just overnight then google and book before you arrive, at evening dinner you are in competition with bus tours.

Nice town with some interesting information and artwork. Good location for visiting nearby places of interest, such as Ross (fantastic museum and hotel bar here) and the beautiful Lake Kaniere. Stayed only two nights, could have easily stayed four or five.

Hokitika is a welcoming town with a fascinating history set in a stunning landscape. It's a great base from which to explore the surrounding area - Lake Kaniere, the Hokitika Gorge, Lake Mahinapua, the Treetops walk and the gold town of Ross.

Lovely quirky beach town.
Lovely quirky beach town. So many walks and adventures on your doorstep. Really central for exploring the West Coast. Free activities close by, loved the glow worm cave and chips while watching the sunset. Very chilled, cool place. We were very lucky it didn’t rain while we were there and we miraculously missed the sandflies. Make sure you take spray for sandflies! If you like long walks then this is the place to go for some spectacular scenery.

Hokitika is nice and central to activity up and down the west coast, and there are lots of things to see and do. We had dinner at Stumpers and initially we thought the prices seemed high, but the food portions were huge and so tasty I would definitely go back. We did the Glacier helicopter ride in Franz Josef and The Shantytown and Monteith Brewery in Greymouth. We also visited the gorge but that was all we had time for. Loads of walks and other sites to see we just didn't have time.

Hokitika bills itself as a cool little town and it is true.
Hokitika bills itself as a cool little town and it is true. There are lots of things to do. The beach is a major attraction with a long area to walk and good sunset views. The town has some lovely greenstone shops and artisans. I always buy something when I'm in Hokitika. There are short walks, Hokitika Gorge and Lake Kaniere nearby.
The location was superb - could see the Hokitika Beach sign from our room and the hotel was located across the road from the New World.
The room was great, had standard television and a stand-alone fan you could use as a white noise machine.
The restaurant was very good. The pork belly meal was well-priced and tasty.
Car parking outside the hotel was plentiful.
The super liquor across the car park provided guests a discount too.
The hotel was easy to find and had great parking right outside the rooms. Our room was clean and tidy and had everything we needed for our short stay. The beds were comfortable and warm with extra bedding and blankets should you need them.
As we arrived on a public holiday the pub wasn’t open when we first arrived to check in, but with a quick phone call Colin came straight out to greet us warmly and deliver the key!
Amazing location just outside Hokitika. Comfy bed and very big and clean bathroom. Best location for access to the beach with mountain views on the front side. Also fantastic star gazing on a clear night. There is an old chair lift on the property overlooking the beach where we thoroughly enjoyed a glass of wine while watching the sunset. The hosts were readily available for any questions or concerns.
Room was beach facing and a stones throw away. Amazing on the cloudless, windless winter day that we stayed. More of less in the main centre of the small West Coast town of Hokitika and close to local amenities. Rooms were nice & warm and quiet for a peaceful sleep. On site restaurant meal was OK but other nearby options are worth considering next time.
Loved our overnight stay in a studio cabin at Kiwi Holiday Park in Hokitika. Park is only 5 years old, well-organized and clean. Registration was quick and friendly. Paved road around park and each cabin has own driveway. Cabins are basic but clean, spacious and sufficient for one night. Bed was comfortable and park was quiet.
Shining Star is located very near the beach. The staff was friendly and helped us out with all of our questions about the area. Our room was a little small but comfortable. We enjoyed seeing the glow worm dell just across the street. This location is only 30 minutes from the Hokitika gorge.
This old hotel is fine as a short stay as it is a good base .to see the Hokitika Gorge,Dorothy Falls, Lake Kaniere & other sights nearby. It has a good small heated kitchen area to do your own food prep etc.Good off road parking.Pub meals available also.
Very good, motel was very clean, had a kitchenette which was not always available in other motels so this was a bonus. Great hosts. Location was a little way out of Hokitika but nonetheless, location was fine.
Room very clean, Cleaner than 5 star hotels .Toilets are very clean. Beds very comfortable. almost everything in the room is perfect. Free wifi. Maybe the best stay in my 20 days holiday
beautiful country property 2 minutes from Hokitika. Comfortable beds, large rooms with private ensuite.
Includes full breakfast which was a great way to start the day. Highly recommend.
Ange was a lovely hostess, close to Hokitika shops and restaurants. Reason for staying was familiarity with this location and Motel. Also close to visit family who lived close by.
