I enjoy Wanaka. Although a tourist town, with much to enjoy in the outdoors it is much less commercial than Queenstown which for me is pricing itself off the tourist market for the average Kiwi, although there have been some good deals since Co-vid arrived.
Absolutely beautiful location with something for every energy level and all weather conditions. Our trip was centred around rock climbing and we couldn’t have asked for better climbing weather- crisp and cool starts to the day and clear blue skies. Bliss!! Too many crags and climbs to do in a single week- we will be back! An abundance of hiking options and kayaking on the lake or mountain biking at Glendhu Bay- too many fabulous activities to list. This is a 10/10 holiday location ❤️👌
Wanaka is a nice place to visit plenty of cafes and restaurants, a lot of beautiful scenery and walks as well as many things to visit and try. It's an hours drive to Queenstown Cromwell or even Alexandra it's the perfect place to base yourself. There are 2 new world supermarkets for your groceries and some shops to look around it's a family destination or a place for couples.
We really enjoyed our stay here it was so relaxing and enjoyable. We loved the lake and our children loved swimming there especially Bremner Bay, Everything you need is here and we will be coming back. The town is easy to get around and lots of options for eating and things to do. We all loved the puzzle world as well.
Close to ammenities Some open 24/7 Close to atm and restaurants on site at motel. Busy at day but quiet at night (in summertime) The puzzle place was the best. Kids had a blast. Pretty easy to get around.
Beautiful small town, postcard views everywhere you look, not too over commercialised, lots of friendly people and lots of places to go see while staying.... we went to Mt Cook for the day, it was wonderful. We also did a boat trip to Ruby Island which was lovely and gave my husband the idea to walk Roy's Peak the next day.... absolutely awesome views from the top.

The Te Wanaka Lodge is a small gem located 5 minutes walk from the main street of Wanaka. All of the facilities, room, guest lounge and kitchen, are very homely and the staff were keen to make my stay as enjoyable as possible. From the courtesy wine in the guest lounge to the on-order breakfast, the Te Wanake Lodge is a great place to stay if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to Queenstown.
Wanaka
Hey it’s no 5 star boutique hotel if that’s what you’re after - but it is- exceptional ,comfortable , clean , slightly retro but tastefully renovated , charming and very well managed by the most gracious and helpful hosts I came across in my South Island travels . Just good honest accomodation . Will be back again no doubt.
A small 2 bedroom house which is a little out of town, but an easy drive or walk into town. Newish property which is very well heated and set up for a relaxing adventure holiday. Great for 4 adults as 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms . Quiet street not far from Edgewater Hotel.
Arrived in the dark after 5 hour trek at Mt Cook. Appreciated everything about the hotel, especially beds. Being both tall we found the bath tiny, but still managed to have one. Left in the dark without seeing Wanaka, but would definately stay here again. Thank you!

We had an amazing host. We had a full english breakfast each morning in front of the best views of Lake Wanaka from our dining table. The apartment was spacious and warm, and the location to town was convenient. I would stay here over any hotel any time.
Wanaka
Exceeded our expectations. Everything about the place was extremely good quality from the linen to the glasses. Felt more like a boutique hotel than a motel. Have never had bathrobes and slippers in a motel before. Matt very friendly and helpful.

The property is located at a 10 minute drive from the lake. The rooms and facilities are functional. This property is not for you if you're looking for comfort or luxury. They did allow free use of the washing machines with a $5 charge for dryer
Fabulous hotel with possibly best views of any hotel in South Island. Staff were friendly and helpful. Dinner was good. Great bar with fireplace. View from our room was amazing! Loved this hotel. Would definitely stay again. Very good value.
Spacious apartment and nicely decorated. It was very comfortable. Loved having a dishwasher in the apartment. The pool with the slide was a great hit with the kids. Very nice resort style hotel. Ample parking. Shower pressure was superb!
good location 2 blocks back from the lake - this also meant it was a bit cheaper had everything you'd expect from a self contained 1 brm apartment friendly helpful staff member on reception
Wanaka
The art displayed throughout the property. The living room is spacious. The garden around the house and the very quiet neighbourhood. No boys racers in Wanaka apparently.
We loved the location of the hotel right at the lake. Very close to the city, just a 30 min walk. The staff was always smiling and helpful. We will definitely come back
