Motel would have been excellent except for several things that needed repair - eg loose toilet seat, bathroom door would not shut, light bulb out in lounge, electric blanket not working on one of the beds, heat pump very noisy. management need to pay more attention to detail
We eat at The Redcliffe Cafe and the food was excellent and moderately priced in a nice ambiance. We also enjoyed breakfast at the Sandfly Cafe. Drive to Manapori and see the Smallest bookshop in the world where the owner's biography is for sale. Even better take the overnight trip from there to Doubtful Sound.
I think you need 3 days to allow maybe the Milford Sound trip, Doubtful sound and the glow worm caves and a day walk in the Kepler track. If you want an extra day just to chill out and enjoy the town it is worth it. The scenery is superb, there are nice places to eat if wanted.
Te Anau is so uncluttered yet has many of the opportunities provided by Queenstown. Walking and biking tracks are literally at your doorstep. The DOC bird sanctuary gave us the opportunity to get up close to Takahe and Kaka. Just 20km from Manapouri ,Te Anau offers alternatives for almost all activities you might pursue.
Te Anau is such a beautiful area with so much to do for nature lovers. There are plenty of walks, and a really cool bird sanctuary. The lake is really nice and good for a swim if you don't mind the cold. Nearby there is some really impressive sites, the Te Anua glow worm caves are must, and also head over to Milford for a cruise.
Your gateway to one of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand. Our main plans were to walk the Milford Track and visit Doubtful Sound, and after doing those we enjoyed the area so much we stayed an extra few days. A lot of great restaurant options as well, we definitely came home fatter.
Te Anau
Great Value for Money and perfect place to relax at Te Anau.. From the Hotel room I had experienced the good lake view, mountains, amazing sunset, birds music, etc.,. Initially, I thought it’s little far away from city but later I felt this is right choice considering the above. They have provided all necessary kitchenette for cooking. Comfortable queen size bed, clean restroom including all time hot water, more storage space, friendly staff and amazing view from hotel which made very happy trip.
Te Anau
The lodge had a real old world charm about it that I have not experienced in any of my travels. Mark, our host, is charm personified and spared no effort to make us comfortable from the moment we entered his lodge. So tastefully decorated, with each item and piece of furniture located with great thought. The old nunnery has really come alive under Mark. I encourage folk to visit Te Anau and stay with Mark...you won't regret it.
Te Anau
Super new - in fact recently completed- and well designed lodge about 5 mins out of Te Anau. The setting - looking out over the pond/dam and complete with ducks to feed was enticing and great for star gazing into the night sky or for lazy drinks on the verandah. Helpful host arrived to welcome us just after we settled in and came promptly the next day when we muddled the settings on the airconditioner.
Te Anau
We really enjoyed our 2-night stay at the Aden Motel and if we were to stay in Te Anau again it would be here. The room had everything you need. The bed was very comfortable and the blackout curtains were amazing and helped us get a great sleep in. It is an easy 1.2km walk into town. There is a walkway literally across the way which will take you out to lake. Highly recommend.
I stayed at a Tanara Studio and it was amazing! The standard of this room is outstanding! This room is comparable to high standard 5 star hotels in big cities. From a TV at the bath to a gigantic shower or a oversized TV in the main room, the perfect kitchen area and all fancy technical features, just amazing! A must stay when somebody stays at Te Anau!
Te Anau
The pretty Tourist town of Te Anau is suffering during Covid. Some hotels have closed down. But standouts are Radfords situated on the lake front. Rooms and bathrooms very well finished. Owner Kerri recommended two great restaurants.. Redcliffs and The Fat Duck. Excellent 2 night stay in a lovely town that needs more visitors.
Te Anau
Absolutely perfection! This was the best experience I’ve had so far here in New Zealand. The room was comfortable, super clean and the service was amazing. I really recommend this place. Thank you to the host Ann, that was super kind and provided us the best experience we could have whilst in Te Anau.
Te Anau
This was an amazing little place! Very clean room with huge living room and kitchen! The laundry facilities were very convenient and the hotel is a very short walk to the lake and to the downtown area. We had a very comfortable stay here!
Great location, very close to Te Anau Lake, which has a wonderful view. The hotel is not big, there’s no lift, so it will be a bit hard for carrying large suitcases, however, the staff are quite helpful.
Te Anau
My favourite motel in Te Anau. The rooms are very generous in size and the kitchen space has everything you need for your time there. Can highly recommend Lakeside Motel and Apartments
Te Anau
The communal kitchen is a fabulous facility. Also great that you accommodate self contained campers. Great location so close to shops, restaurants etc

Te Anau
Everything was amazing. Room clean, good facilities, Friendly staff and in the hearth of Te Anau
Te Anau
This large motel is run by an Asian family. They are hardworking and from what I can see have taken a practical view to the HUGE Covid downturn. Their restaurant is closed they only have a few nightly re take but their cost has reduced dramatically and the rooms are very adequate. I notice they are taking advantage of the situation by doing extensive renovations to their motels all in an area well away from those they rent out. I needed an overnight place to stay before and after the Milford Track and this was perfect for the job. Staff very accommodating. Room spacious clean and reasonable quality No fancy view or ultramodern ambiance If you want that there are plenty of motels which have kept their exorbitant rates. But don’t book ahead whatever you want. It is a buyers market in Te Anau
Te Anau
Excellent stay, met all our accommodation needs, staff super friendly and food superb. Spectacular views. Will visit again.
Great campgrounds with a brand new kitchen/bbq/lounge block. Facilities are functional and clean.
