It was a real culture shock arriving on Tongatapu.

It was a real culture shock arriving on Tongatapu. None of the information on the internet is current or correct, and none of the tour operators respond to your requests so it's difficult to lock in activities. We found it easier booking things in person once we arrived. Cash is king. It is also difficult to get around without a car, so would recommend hiring one, but be aware that insurance can be an issue. That said, we had a great time once we worked out some of these quirks! Highly recommend getting off the mainland to a nearby island or for whale watching. The tsunami destroyed most of the resorts on the island so beware that it's not your standard tropical destination.

    Visiting relatives was wonderful.

Visiting relatives was wonderful. Meeting julie fonua exceptionally great. I ate at a restaurant and it was ok. Not easy to get around but I usally walk around but didnt know my way from there, I have a drivers license but prefer to walk and a map to get around from House of Tonga would have been helpful. Activities my family had arranged so was pretty booked up but was able to catch up with a friend Reverend Atunaisa & Mangu Ngalu.

Beautiful friendly people, lovely location with interesting sites to see. Escape Cafe is great for eats. Plenty of sites to see...definitely go to Anahulu caves and the Blow Holes. Western tip of the island was not great, but there were some nice beaches on the way (southern coast).

    It’s absolutely a developing city.

It’s absolutely a developing city. As the capital of the country, it lacks basic infrastructure. The local people does not have enough cultural life. Young people like to drive cars on the beach road with very loudly music, esp. in the evening to mid night. General speaking, the local people is kind and polite.

Enjoyed the main market in town

Enjoyed the main market in town Really loved the Seafood 12 Cafe with their seafood especially the ‘Ota or raw fish and sashimi Another place to visit is Friends Cafe for Breakfast lunch and early dinner. Unfortunately it’ quite noisy at night with the night club music. It is easy to get around Nuku’alofa by taxi, public transport or rental vehicles Swimming pools at Tanoa is always a highlight for kids

The STAFFS with Fiona and team from the front desk, breakfast, room service, Bou and the team at the pool and bar, maintenance, and security. Truly felt the Tongan warmth with them. The ambiance and the fact that their landscaping are veggies and fruits for hotel use is the perfect touch. Location was accessible to everything in town, neighboring villages, and ferries to outer islands.

This place is co-located with a shop owned also by the hotel owner. It is easy to find in Nukualofa and in a good location. The AC is good, though I did not need it. The rooms are very large and nice with a balcony to the road (so yes, it is noisy). The toilet is also of good size and ok. It includes a microwave and a fridge. You can ask for some plates and cutlery if you need.

・The transfer from the airport to the hotel is 50 Tonga paanga. ・If it is 17:00 in the evening, the shower is hot water. At 8:00 a.m., the shower is water. ・I was happy that there was free mineral water. ・Sheets are changed every day. If you are a backpacker, you can sleep in the bed without any problem. ・The staff Ra (woman) is a good person

Big rooms, with big bathrooms, in a great location for the capital - short walk to restaurants and most office buildings. Nice breakfast and good restaurant/bar on site. Good location for a morning walk along the sea front as well. Hotel also does a paid return shuttle services to the airport.

This is more like a boutique hotel, it has a good museum type vibe, the restaurant is good for lunch and dinners. The staff in the restaurant are friendly and the life music for dinner is great. ( that’s more a review for restaurant)

This hotel is actually better in person than the photos I had seen. The breakfast was very good with many egg choices. We found the room to be good-sized with good air con. The pool looked wonderful but we did not use it.
