Beautiful friendly people, lovely location with interesting sites to see. Escape Cafe is great for eats. Plenty of sites to see...definitely go to Anahulu caves and the Blow Holes. Western tip of the island was not great, but there were some nice beaches on the way (southern coast).
It’s absolutely a developing city. As the capital of the country, it lacks basic infrastructure. The local people does not have enough cultural life. Young people like to drive cars on the beach road with very loudly music, esp. in the evening to mid night. General speaking, the local people is kind and polite.
Slow time.. travel via ferry or via domestic flight very cheap and safe.. Make sure you have downloaded movies/episodes, soaps on Kinder/Smartphone before flights to Tonga. Booking a rental car with Fuamotu International Airport drop very handy we use FAB RENTALS ask for Mele.. ej. just pay $2 TOP to park in airport public carpark. ej.
Enjoyed the main market in town Really loved the Seafood 12 Cafe with their seafood especially the ‘Ota or raw fish and sashimi Another place to visit is Friends Cafe for Breakfast lunch and early dinner. Unfortunately it’ quite noisy at night with the night club music. It is easy to get around Nuku’alofa by taxi, public transport or rental vehicles Swimming pools at Tanoa is always a highlight for kids
This is our 3rd family trip & for us, this is truly a special place. The Tongan people are special & with some becoming friends. We are never bored. We have done 8 whales swims with 7 of them being totally spectacular. A diverse variety of food. If you are looking to get a tattoo whilst over there, a must visit to George Cocker @ Kalia Tattoo should be made. Clean, safe & a brilliant a artist. Also a must see is some surrounding islands for snorkelling, whale swims, Anahulu Caves, blow holes, Tsunami rock, fishing pigs, 3 headed coconut palm and a drive right around the coastline as there is plenty more to see! Hire a car or take a cab. Nuku'alofa is not over crowded with tourists. Tonga is a little surprise package that will not disappoint! We look forward to trip number 4.
Nuku'alofa is ok.... not much to do there at all. Kind of like Male, in Maldives. Just use it as a transit zone to the islands. At least it was safe and clean. Avoid the dateline hotel, terrible front office staff

super nice stay in this beautiful colonial house all in wood with a personal touch of the owner Liz in terms of decoration. The kitchen is amazing but the staff even more. Liz even took us for a sunday afternoon tour of the island. Best hotel experience in years. Thank you
Walking distance to town Breakfast was basic with no choice/variety Internet was variable, but that's really outside the control of the hotel Chinese restaurant was ok
