Pros: Located only about a four minute walk from the train station and bus depot on one side, and the S-Mall (which has a grocery store and places to eat and shop) only a two minute walk on the other side. Very good breakfast, with different foods each day ( I stayed three days). WOWOW movie channels on BS. Public bath. Cons: Noise carries easily. Trash cans are very small. The public bath is very hot, so I couldn’t stay in very long. The music continually playing in the hallway is a bit annoying.

I was surprised to find out that the Hotel has its own Onsen, which guests can use for free! The Onsen facility is good, with lots of amendments in the male facility. It was a great experience! The breakfast facility is also free.

Everything.. Fantastic place. Nice staff. Big room with view on the river. Nice onsen. Amazing dinner and breakfast. Best place I stayed during my 4 weeks' trip all over Japan.

The shrine is so historical and beautiful. The meals (shojin ryorin) was so good. I appreciate the public bath. I joined the 7am prayer session. It's eye opening and the priest spent time explaining to us the history of Dewa Sanzan and the shrine. I left my bag after checkout to hike up to Mt. Haguro (walking distance to entrance). Then took a bus to Tsuruoka train station.

The owner was a funny guy. He may not know English but will talk with you in Japanese. The bedrooms have air conditioners, which is a definite plus.
