We loved the location. We wanted a place that was within walking distance to the train station but was also quiet. The traditional features of the house was preserved, but the room was updated with all the modern features needed for comfort. The result was like visiting a family member with really great taste. The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming.

A fantastic mix of traditional and modern. We loved how the owners retained as much of the original 1940s features while incorporating modern amenities. For those who fear futons / sleeping on the floor, fear not, the futons were wonderfully comfortable, even my husband - who came prepared with his camping Nemo sleeping pad - thought so and didn't use the sleeping pad! Our hostess and host were absolutely wonderful and so very lovely. The location is perfect - on a quiet street but just minutes walk from the busy area and literally a stones throw from the Odawara Castle. I wish we had planned to stay longer in Odawara!

The property is beautifully renovated from a 100-year-old house. It’s located in a quiet area of Odawara, yet just a few minutes by car to tourist spots and the beach. The mattress is comfortable, and the house is clean. The main living area might feel a bit tight for groups of more than 3–4 people, but for just the two of us, it was perfect. The house had everything we needed. Satoru is a kind and helpful host. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Makkocho House.

The apartment was bigger than expected. We booked the largest type on offer but didn't realise it had a separate bedroom in addition to the tatami room. Although near the station and castle, we found it a quiet place to stay. Excellent air con and bathroom plus a washing machine detergent.
