We were on our way to Melbourne from Sydney. Holbrook was half way. So we stayed there overnight. We ate at the RSL. Holbrook is an old township. It does have a history. Not often in a small town do you find a submarine. Holbrook is named after a Commander who won a Victory Cross (VC) during the WW1. Holbrook was originally known as Germantown. Due to the war, it changed to Holbrook.
Quiet little town off the highway. I remember when the highway went through the center and it was a busy place. It has a full size Submarine in the town center. strange place for a sub. The history is interesting.
Basically it is just a good midway point to stop when travelling Sydney to Melbourne. Holbrook is good if you have younger children as they have the historical Submarine park and playground plus the historical museum in town and a mini rail ride. But not much to see or do otherwise.
I like Holbrook and it's even better since the Highway bypass went in. It's country with a suburban feel and a great stepping stone for expolring the Victorian border country and only 2 hours to the snow.
Holbrook is a quiet country town with good facilities for its size. The miniature train is a worthwhile visit in the centre of town on the creek banks. Has a small supermarket, hotel, coffee shops and bakery. The submarine is a must visit and the children love to climb on it with many photo opportunities.
Great cafe for breakfast. Interesting shop fronts and loved a bric a brac shop with colourful birdhouses. Fascinating history museum and amazing pottery museum and must not miss the HMS Ottway submarine in the centre of town There is also a miniature railway in the town park but not running the weekend of our visit. A long main street but flat and easy walking. The town has been bypassed so no heavy traffic.
Everything! It was great value for money. Very easy to find, staff were very friendly, room was clean.
