Featuring a barbecue, Grace's Spa Cottage is a detached holiday home set in Smithton. The holiday home is 18 mi from Stanley. Free private parking is available on site. This place was one of the best places I have ever stayed in. The kitchen set up is the best I have ever known. They are thoughtful and provide lots of equipment so you can actually cook whatever you want. The whole house is amazing and all the little details really made a difference to our experience. Forest (Near Smithton)
Offering garden views, Platypus Retreat in Forest has accommodations, a shared lounge and a garden. The bed and breakfast features both WiFi and private parking free of charge. We loved everything there! By far the nicest accommodation (and the host!) we had during this Tassie trip. We wish we could have stayed there longer. Right from a lovely welcome note with tasty muffins, through the beautifully finished building and surroundings, a great host who we ended up chatting for a couple of hours to, to a way better than standard continental breakfast, everything was just lovely! Fully recommend the place.

Smithton is a great place to base yourself from, to explore the rugged far west coast of this State. I wanted to capture some photos of some rough seas on the coast. I did get some lovely shots of long waves. I also enjoyed exploring along the roads to Mount Cameron West/Preminghana where I was mesmerised by the landscape beauty and "feel" of the place.
It was mY first visit to Smithton. What I loved about it was that it was central to so many wonderful places to visit such as Stanley (the Nut) and the beautiful Tarkine region. We had a wonderful stay.
The options for different drives through the area makes Smithton an ideal place to start your adventures. The only downside was we were unable to get into several restaurants as they were fully booked, great tip pre-book before arrival. Great place for a short stay.
A beautiful rural area with great access to Stanley on the NW coast and both Marrawah and Arthur River on the west coast. Robbins Island is worth a look too. The drive through the Tarkine forest to Strahan is well worth it. If we have the chance we would like to stay at Arthur River and enjoy the 170km river cruise.
All shopkeepers were very friendly and helpful and a wide variety of food was available. We used Smithton as a base, took the Arthur River Cruise and also travelled to Stanley. We were treated to spectacular scenery and learnt a great deal about the history of the area.
Plenty to see in and around Smithton and most venues were open, as opposed to Stanley at this particular time (not much open there for meals or tourist viewing) I realise the "real" tourist towns are geared towards mainland and international tourists, but locals count too and value the time to see our state without the crowds. Thoroughly recommend the local Smithton RSL club for meals. Easy walking around town and sights and some great little walks along Tarkine Drive. Amazing scenery, beaches and photo opportunities.
