On Macquarie Harbour, the historic Franklin Manor was originally built in 1896. It has a guest lounge with a fireplace, free Wi-Fi and rooms with a flat-screen TV. French style breakfast. Hot croissants with proscuitto and cheese and fresh fruit were delicious. The apple danishes we took for morning tea. Toast and spreads or cereal upon request were also included. Hot chocolate was good. The manager, Lincoln was friendly and helpful. He took our cases upstairs. Good quiet location within 10 mins walk to town.

Strahan is a very quiet place, there might almost be more tourists than residents! If you're after good food and drink, this is not the place for you, there is essentially one non takeaway restaurant in the town, and it does the same buffet food every night. However, if you want amazing scenery, lovely long hikes, boat trips along the river, this is a must destination. Its perfectly situated to allow access to Queenstown, Gordon River, Pieman River and Cradle Mountain all for less than a two hour drive.
Strahan is not a big town, we stayed 2 nights which was perfect as we did the Gordon River Tour (well worth the money). The shopping is quaint. The town has a lovely feel and worth a short walk around the river to the train station (great cafe) and also the waterfall (name escapes me) but is right in town. Loved staying in Strahan, one of the best places in Tasmania in my opinion.
World Heritage Cruises and The Ship That Never Was play are ‘must-dos’ whilst in Strahan. Hogarth Falls is great short walk. Two night stay was perfect. Plan dining options in advance. Molly’s was great.
You need to book well in advance to ensure you are able to get on the tours you want to do. Gordon River Cruise is great - recommend doing the deluxe (ie the food package) otherwise there's not much on offer food wise when you get off the boat. The train is also great - if you have driven to Strahan via Queenstown no need to go all the way back on the train! The play "The Ship that Never Was" is a must see - very entertaining, full of history but also funny, with audience participation. Three days is about the right length of stay if you want to do river cruise/train/play and walking.
Strahan is a beautiful location. We took the World Heritage Cruises day cruise which was once again a magnificent, informative, relaxing and very pleasant experience. We learned about the history of Macquarie Harbour including Aboriginal people, piners and loggers, huon pine, the salmon industry, history of Sarah Island, the blockade at Heritage Landing and the declaration of the World Heritage Area. We visited the beaches that stretch for miles. The birdlife is wonderful. We saw kurrawongs, wrens, yellow-tailed black cockatoos, ground parrots and green rosellas.
A beautiful town on the lake, with a great deal of history showcasing the original develpment from convict days, to the present day. Lovely eateries and coffee shops, the Info centre is great. There is a daily theater production at the Info centre at 5:30pm, "The Ship That Never Was" Highly recommended for a laugh. Beautiful walks nearby to water falls, very easy access. The heritage rail network here is lovely, as is the cruise opportunities. Overall Strahan is a lovely historical village of tranquility.

I loved the stay at greengate, we stayed in 'Sarah'. After over a week on the road, camping in the wet, Sarah was just like coming home. She was warm and welcoming, and had everything a home needs. Not swanky or shiny, but clean and cosy, and perfect. Everything was available and where you'd expect to find it, so we could just unpack and settle in. I will be booking again next time in in Strahan.

The rooms were very clean and spacious. The bathroom was very clean and modern, with rainwater shower heads and handheld. The restaurant serves beautiful Australian fare that were just delicious! The hotel is in a small cove about 600m from Strahan town Centre. It has the cutest marina! Very tranquil stay and would definitely come back again!
Strahan
Well-priced, good location and all facilities were provided. We like to have access to a microwave and some places don't provide one. The Strahan Motel had 2 available in the laundry - which was also excellent being free of slot machines (we paid at reception to use them, and could have charged the cost to the room). Much better idea.
The staff were excellent at Franklin Manor. It was handy to the township and waterfront, meaning that we could walk to the cruise we booked. Strahan has limited parking and what there is costs $1 per hour. A limited breakfast is included in the charge at the Manor.

We enjoyed our short stay in Strahan made better by being able to stay at Aloft in the garden studio. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and spacious.Annie was very friendly and the little touches ie chocolates and biscuits were a lovely treat.
Strahan
Perfect place to stay in Strahan walking distance to most facilities . The 2 bedroom apartment was roomy and spotless, one of the cleanest places i think I have ever stayed. The owner was very helpful with local advice on things to do and see.
Even the look of the room is not as fancy, but it actually quiet comfortable , you can park right next to the building that you stay, room size is generously big. Could be really good for family. Have cooking facilities which is very handy.

Wonderful location, great for family. The two toilets was a definite bonus with six adults and two children! The kids and grandparents alike loved the table tennis table!
